Somehow, I never imagined that Sarah Jessica Parker's next TV gig after Sex and the City would be a reality show about art. In fact, it makes me a little sad thinking she'll be doing that instead of some fabulous new series with big stars and groovy music.
The hour-long show is described by Elves' Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz as a Project Runway-style competition, only with art instead of fashion. Aspiring artists compete to produce various styles of artwork, including painting, sculpting, etc., which is then judged by a panel of experts.
Looks like a Dead Zone movie is possible. Anthony Michael Hall, who starred in the USA network sci-fi show, told SCI-FI wire that he'd be interested in doing a Dead Zone movie. Hall, who played psychic Johnny Smith for the show's six-season run, reminds everyone that he's not optimistic a Dead Zone movie will be made. "I don't think we had the size of a cult following that, let's say, The X-Files did. You look at Sex and the City or The X-Files, these movies were done long after the shows pumped out their last episodes," says the actor. Also, The Dead Zone having a previous incarnation as a feature film might preclude any new attempts. (In the film, which was released in 1983, Christopher Walken starred as Johnny Smith.)
Whatever the case may be with the possible movie, Anthony Michael Hall remains grateful about the opportunity to star in The Dead Zone. "I would certainly be open to the potential for [a reunion feature]. I would never turn my back on what [the show's late producer] Michael Piller did for me. He gave me this incredible opportunity. When I look back at [my] career, I view him and John Hughes as almost guardian angels of my career," Hall says.
Kim Cattrall is hot. Hot as in busy as well as in looking good. She's also smart, funny, observant and remarkably candid. Recently, I spoke with her for TV Squad about the success of the Sex & the City movie, her new HBO project Sensitive Skin, and a whole lot of other things, including Star Trek, aging, Universal TV in the 1970s and more.
Allison Waldman: When Sex & the City ended, you didn't want to do the movie. Now it's done and it's a huge success.
Kim Cattrall: It's extraordinary. I look back four years ago when this was a runaway idea, I just did not feel ready to do it. We had reached such a high point, I wasn't sure I had anything else to say. I also had incredible personal challenges. My marriage was coming apart, also, my dad was diagnosed with dementia. I really needed a time out. AW: How did the movie come back around?
KC: Michael Patrick King called and said, 'I'm writing something and I think you're going to love it. ...I think you were right to say no when you did because of whatever reasons you had.' See, I had never been public about my reasons I felt that it was nobody's business.
Sex and the...carpool lane? That's what TBS is going for with their new microseries, Commuter Confidential, debuting Monday, June 2, during the sanitized Sex and the Cityat 11 p.m. EST.
But they're not fooling us. It's advertising, not a series, micro or otherwise. The 2-minute pods feature four women who, while trapped in a car together to and from work every day, yap about sex, death, bodily fluids, celebrities, politics, and their experiences with Match.com, all while applying Revlon makeup.
Daisy (Keri Lynn Pratt) is the aspiring artist, fresh out of college and ready to take on the world. Carmen (Idalis DeLeon, pictured) is an attorney who brings home the bacon while her loser hubby sits home and cracks open the brews. Former beauty queen Paula (Dorie Barton) is kvetching over the breakup of her marriage. And Sylvie (Dee Ryan) cares for her aging mom while running a Montessori school and wondering why the hell she ever gave up her investment banking job.
For starters, the producers are determined to streamline the show, taking advantage of being in NYC and sharpening the focus of the show. Horta said the goal for the Ugly Betty writing team for season three is "to make the show more about Betty's journey and to weave the characters into more unified, emotionally grounded plots."
Every TV season, there is at least one scripted show in which clothes characters wear almost become as important as the characters themselves. I remember when Sex and the City was still offering fresh episodes and I was writing spoilers about the series, some of my readers emailed me asking for information and set pictures of what the ladies would be wearing in upcoming episodes. I received the same type of emails when The O.C. was on the air: fans wanted to know what Marissa and Summer would be wearing so they could try to find the clothes in stores. That information was almost as critical to them as knowing if Marissa and Ryan would hook/break up!
This year, a few series tried to be fashionable such as Lipstick Jungle, which had a partnership with Maybelline and even offered fashion tips during commercial breaks and on the show's website. However, when I surf the web on general TV websites and boards, the fashion talks seem to be directed more towards one show: Gossip Girl.
After treating fans in early December with a teaser that practically gave nothing away (especially if you were keeping up with movie spoilers), New Line Cinema released today the official movie trailer filled with Sex and the City goodness! This trailer, in HD format no less, not only confirms some of the spoilers that have been posted on the net over the past months, but also gives fans some fresh info about the four ladies.
NBC's Sex and the City-like fashionable show Lipstick Jungle received an order of six extra episodes. This means that the series will get a first season of 13 episodes.
TV Guide reveals that the series, based on the book of the same name written by SatC author Candace Bushnell, is winning its timeslot among women of the 18-49 and 18-34 categories.
Laura: So Paul is now sleeping in his office. It kind of gives you the impression that his profession is interfering in his personal life doesn't it? This show is about as subtle as John Turturro in Miller's Crossing.
The more I watch this show, the more I'm convinced that Paul is the worst therapist ever. Not only is he still seeing Laura after she's made it clear that she's obsessed with him, now he's begun talking to her like some passive-aggressive Svengali. What the fuck the does he care if she's late. Is he her shrink or her father? Freud much?
It's been a little over two months since we last reported about the Sex and the City movie here at TV Squad. Therefore, it is time to bring you up to speed with the latest happenings since the first trailer was released in early December.
A few days ago, New Line Cinema, via their official SatC blog, posted the hi-res version teaser poster they released mid-January (see picture on the right) of the romantic comedy set to be released on May 30.
Santa has dropped an early Christmas gift for the Sex and the City fans: the first official trailer for the movie! Sadly, it's a tiny 47-second gift that doesn't provide much insight in the four friends' lives especially for those of us who fed on SatC spoilers since the movie was announced. The trailer is after the jump.
Don't get me wrong, it is a fashionable-looking trailer and it is really nice to see Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda still together but it doesn't provide much information on the movie other than the fact the ladies will be wearing various dresses and undergarments, that they will attend an auction, that Carrie will wear a wedding dress and that she still is with big. In fact, it's more a teaser than a trailer. Or maybe I'm just too spoiled on the subject! Let's hope the next trailers offer more for us to bite on.
(S04E02) Tim Gunn, you lied to us. You told us that this would be the greatest season yet. I have reason to believe you purposely misguided us to boost ratings. Tim, I thought you were better than this.
I know we're only two episodes into the season, but I'm already bored with everyone. Remember the days of Austin Scarlett or Santino Rice? People that dared to think outside of the box and (occasionally) looked good doing it? Right now we only have Elisa, and her craziness may be more of a handicap than a good thing. I'm bored, Project Runway, and I demand that you entertain me.
A little over a month has passed since our last article about the Sex and the City movie. Has the novelty already worn off? In early October articles and on-set reports about the movie were pouring all over the web but now, SatC movie news are getting quite rare. Nonetheless, I roamed the web to find the latest happenings since mid-October.
Spoilers for the upcoming Sex and the City movie have been quite popular here at TV Squad. Since our last crop, a lot of information and pictures have made their way to the world wide web... so did the news that some of these spoilers may actually be foilers, or at least not the entire truth!
