Rescue Me: Sandwich

Denis Leary
(M7) "Mmm... oh... my... god. Wow." - Tommy

OK, so I'm confused. Was this minisode even supposed to have aired last night? All the TV listings, Crackle, and Hulu have this listed as "Supreme." This one, "Sandwich," wasn't set to play until next week. I guess they got switched too late and the scheduling information wasn't changed? Anyway, while I was expecting something serious about Tommy's "dreams and nightmares," instead we got probably the funniest and most well-written minisode yet.

Sandwich named after Jerry Springer

jerry springerAs long as their are celebrities, people will find odd ways to pay tribute to them. First, there was Jerry Seinfeld, who had a peanut butter sandwich named after him, and now the same honor has been bestowed on Jerry Springer, whose name has been given to a Carnegie Deli sandwich consisting of "pastrami, tongue, baloney, Swiss Cheese and Russian dressing." My guess is that they asked a blind man to make a reuben sandwich and this was the result. Sounds like an acquired taste to me, and a far cry from Seinfeld's peanut butter, honey, and cinnamon concoction. Maybe the sandwich is only part of the full dining experience, and to really appreciate it you need to have someone smashing a chair over your head and screaming at you to stop sleeping with their daughter's cousin's husband. The sandwich was created to celebrate the 3,000 episode of Springer's TV show.

Jerry Seinfeld has peanut butter sandwich named after him

jerry seinfeldLeave it to Jerry Seinfeld to get philosophical and nostalgic about peanut butter, but that's what he did at Peanut Butter & Co., a Greenwich Village restaurant which now serves a sandwich created by the comedian himself called the "Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedy Special." The sandwich, which Seinfeld claims he ate a lot of while working as a young comic in the 1970s, consists of a toasted bagel, peanut butter, honey, and cinnamon. Peanut Butter & Company's menu, naturally, revolves around peanut butter. Seinfeld and his wife are fans of the restaurant, and Seinfeld himself wrote the forward to the Peanut Butter & Co. Cookbook, which was written by owner Lee Zalben.
