In what has got to be the funniest news article I've read today, Rosie O'Donnell compares her time
as one of the hostesses of The View to prison rape. The comment was made while O'Donnell appeared at Cyndi Lauper's True Colors tour in Vancouver (Yes,
Cyndi Lauper still tours).
She uses the specific example of the movie
Born Innocent starring Linda Blair. There's a scene involving a broom that doesn't need to be described any further. Needless to say, it was very graphic and quite controversial at the time. Out of curiosity, does this comparison make Barbara Walters the evil warden character?

The former
Friends cast member will be heading up the
Los Angeles-set parts of the new HBO s comedy show Little Britain.The show is the U.S. counterpart to the
BBC sketch show of the same name. The series will focus on the hijinx of British comedians Matt Lucas and David Walliams (stars from the BBC show) here stateside. They are currently filming in North Carolina. Schwimmer will be directing the studio segments of the six-part HBO series here in California. Guests for his segments include Rosie O'Donnell and Sting.
This isn't the first time Schwimmer will be directing or showing his love of all things British. He directed a few episodes of
Friends. And this past year, made his feature directorial debut with
Run Fat Boy Run The film starred Simon Pegg as a non-committal cad who has a change of heart toward the mother of his child and enters a marathon to prove his love.

Here's the thing about game show revivals: you have to satisfy people on two levels. For fans of the old show, you have to make the gameplay of the new show familiar enough to keep them happy and coming back. And, in order to attract new fans, you have to modernize and add touches that will suck in viewers and help build drama. That's one of the reasons why most new game shows have
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire-style darkened sets with swirling lights, and depend on ominous music and tight camera angles to create drama.
Million Dollar Password, premiering Sunday at 8 PM ET, has all of that. They even nabbed
Millionaire's original American host, Regis Philbin, to give it that extra bit of primetime oomph. But does it work? Well... sorta. Fans of the Allen Ludden / Tom Kennedy / Bert Convy incarnations might be dissatisfied with what they've done to their old favorite, but even an objective observer can see that the gameplay has some flaws that are going to need to be worked out for the show to succeed.

ABC in turning things around on
The View -- at least for one day. In what a cynic might call a stunt,
The View is going to broadcast one show from the next two weeks from backstage. Essentially, what they're doing, is a rerun, but in a way you never saw the show.
On Friday, May 30, the experimental episode will show how
The View is made, by lifting the curtain so you can see how the magic happens. They've chosen to show the upside down, backstage
View on that Friday - and don't worry about marking it in your calendar. You can expect plenty of reminders from Barbara Walters (if she's there), Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd. With all that behind the scenes footage, only half of the show as seen originally -- from the camera's point of view -- will be seen.

In an announcement that most who remember the older versions of Password would consider a no-brainer, it has been revealed that Betty White will be returning as a guest panelist on CBS' new Million Dollar Password series. And, really, if she wasn't even being considered would it even be Password?
White, who is 86-years-young, was a staple of the original version of Password when it started back in 1961 as well as the revived 70s and 80s versions of the show. Much of that connection came from her marriage to original Password host Allen Ludden. White and Ludden were married in 1963 and remained together until his death from stomach cancer in 1981.

On the theory that it worked for another actress who play Tracy Turnblad,
Marissa Jaret Winokur is going to star in her own daytime talk show, just like Ricki Lake before her. (Can Nikki Blonsky be next?)
Marissa J, who's currently spinning, twirling and trying to look graceful on
Dancing With the Stars, will be developing a syndicated yakker (industry talk for talk show) for Sony Pictures Television. The fact that another company is also doing the same thing for Marie Osmond means one thing: producers think that if you can dance, you can talk. That's a show business axiom, isn't it? Her show, if it flies, will be for fall 2009.
Sony has dipped in syndication before with the
Wayne Brady Show, which failed to click but did win the star a Daytime Emmy. Marissa is already an award winner, grabbing the 2003 Tony as Best Actress in a musical for playing Tracy in the Broadway version of
Hairspray opposite Harvey Fierstein.

And there you were, thinking that the Emmys were the biggest and best awards any television starlet could hope for. Think again, because all those moments that should get awards are being honored at AOL TV. Some are actually important moments in television history (i.e. The Soprano's finale) but others are just mishaps or fights that the nominees hope audiences will soon forget.
AOL TV is calling it their
Top 5 Awards. They provide five nominations but you decide who the winner will be. You can watch the video clips and vote for your favorites. AOL TV will release the winners on December 13th.

Well, after all the hemming and hawing about who was going to replace Bob Barker on
The Price is Right, we finally have a name. And, apparently, a signature pair of glasses to go along with it.
According to James Hibberd of
TV Week,
Drew Carey has been signed to host the venerable game show. CBS decided to offer Carey the job after seeing his hosting skills in action on
The Power of Ten. The plan is to have Carey announce the move tonight on
Late Night with David Letterman.

Ben Silverman is loosening up as the NBC executive session panel continues.
Asked what he felt was missing from NBC's lineup, the new Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios, joked he wanted the chimes in the network's jingle turned up by 30%.
Silverman assures a reporter that he and Graboff are comfortable working side by side. "This wasn't an arranged marriage," he says. "We've known each other a long time."
