"You always made me feel safe, John."
Perfect. Beautiful. That line was delivered by Carol Kane to Richard Belzer on last night's season finale of
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. A bit of history. Kane played Gwen Munch, the conspiracy-minded ex-wife of Belzer's Detective John Munch. The last time the two of them played those roles was more than a decade ago, not even on the same show.
When last Detective Munch fans saw the pairing, it was in 1997 on
Homicide: Life on the Street. And they picked one hell of an episode to bring her back. Fans of Belzer know he was having fun with the black helicopter crowd before he brought that particular obsession to his character, and last night's episode was tailor-made for him, even if he wasn't really in the forefront of the plot.

Except for the occasional one-liner, Richard Belzer doesn't get a whole lot of face time on
Law & Order: SVU. That leaves him with some time to spend on other projects, like
these comedy videos and--now--he's
writing two books. Belzer, 62, has signed with Simon & Schuster to write two mysteries where he's the star. In the stories, he'll get "caught up in his own plot."
While the books are being billed as mysteries, you know they're going to be chock full of comedy because that's what Belzer really is: a comedian. In fact, he released a great statement about his new venture, "A potent mix of Dashiell Hammett, Oscar Wilde, Lenny Bruce and Robert Altman seasoned by the Belzerian vision of life, as the wry and raucous, raunchy worlds of make-believe and reality converge, this is the first 'reality novel' of the new millennium that explores a unique universe that poses the question, 'What is reality?'"
I'm sure we can expect many more long-winded sentences from Belzer when his first book, "I Am Not a Cop", comes out in fall 2008.

Richard Belzer doesn't seem to be getting much face time on
SVU lately, so he's apparently finding other things to do. And thank goodness! He has his own 'channel', called
Belzervizion, over at this new video website called
Super Deluxe (same place where the
Lost writers parody came from).
Belzervizion is quite funny-- for those of you who don't know, Richard Belzer is a comedian. He just happens to have played a cop on television for years. In the first episode, Belzer talks about how he helps co-star Ice-T with his rap music and Ice-T gives his own take on Belzer's musical skills (try
not looking at Ice-T's wife's gigantic knockers- it's impossible!). It also includes a spoof on
House, in which
SVU co-star Diane Neal plays a role. Episode #2 spoofs 24 and has cameos from Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni. Everything seems to be shot on the
SVU sets when they're not in use. Let's hope we can look forward to more Belzervizion!
Episode one of Belzervizion is after the jump (here's a
link to episode #2):

So I'm doing the daily "What's On Tonight"
post, and I see that The Sci-Fi Channel has three episodes of
Law and Order: SVU on. Um ... can someone tell
me why (and don't say it's because NBC owns the Sci-Fi Channel).
Is this a new show that has a similar
title? Does the SVU actually stand for Space Visitation Unit? Is Mariska Hargitay an android?
"In
outer space, the people of Earth are represented by two separate but equally important groups: the Space Visitation
Unit, who investigate claims of alien visitors, and space attorneys, who prosecute the evil aliens. These are their
stories."
As if having all the
Law and Order shows on USA and TNT 90,000 times a week
wasn't enough.

(S07E19) Anthony Anderson has been playing a lot of heavy characters these past two years, and I'm not talking
about his wait weight. Ba-Da-Dum! Thank you, I'll be here all week. Try the veal.
Seriously, Anderson is known for his comedic roles in television shows such as All About the Andersons and
movies like Scary Movie 3 (and 4) and Harold & Kumar go to White Castle (hilarious scene). I mean,
he was in Kangaroo Jack for crying out loud. However, we have seen Anderson's serious side over the past two
years. Last year and this, he portrayed villain Antwon Mitchell on the FX show The Shield. On this episode of
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit he portrays Lucius Blaine, Elliot Stabler's (Chris Meloni) replacement
partner.
Wait, where's Stabler's original partner, Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay)? Well, jump on through and we'll catch
you up.
