When
NBC canceled Southland before the second season even had a chance to debut, online fans went into "
Save Southland" mode. They went on Twitter, wrote letters to NBC and Warner Brothers, and tried to get the network to reconsider their decision,
Jericho-style. Well, NBC is still not going to air the show, but Nikki Finke is reporting that
TNT is going to pick up the show and start airing the first season as early as next week.
But she says that the deal isn't set yet because TNT and NBC can't come to terms on money (of course). In fact, an insider tells Finke that the "behavior from NBC has been unbelievable and amazingly f***ed up - even for them - which is saying something."
Of course, there's no word yet on whether TNT will simply buy the first season's worth of episodes and whatever they filmed for the second season or if TNT will actually produce more new episodes.

Oh, this is going to tick off sooooo many people.
NBC has decided to cancel Southland! They have finished filming six episodes for season two but NBC suddenly pulled the plug on the show. There's still a chance that a cable network could pick it up. I can picture the show on FX or TNT or USA. Or maybe NBC could put it on Bravo? Nah, then they'd have no room for
Real Housewives of Bangor, Maine.

This was only the seventh episode of
Southland but it was also the season finale, due to it starting after
ER ended its run.
I'm still of two minds about this show. While it's obvious it's a "quality" show, I want more
Adam-12 and less ensemble cast dramatics. Did you catch the scene with the lady with the chicken nuggets? That actually happened in real life a few months ago. (Yes, I mentioned chicken nuggets before the big shooting at the end!)
The show is
coming back this fall but will move to Friday nights at 9 (thanks Jay). That's probably not a good thing.

I think I'd like
Southland a lot more if it just focused on the cops played by Ben McKenzie and Michael Cudlitz. I find myself getting less interested when they cut away from what they're doing. I think
Southland should be like a fictional version of
Cops, showing the two cops inside the car talking and then going to various calls during the hour. I know, you're thinking, that's just
Adam-12. But I really liked
Adam-12!

Southland, the gritty new police drama from film producer Ann Biderman, puts the spotlight on the dark and grimy corners of Los Angeles as seen through the eyes of uniformed cops and plainclothes detectives. Unfortunately, the series premiere is mired in cop show clichés and forgets to deliver anything we haven't seen before.
The first episode –
stream it now or watch it below, a week before it debuts on NBC – owes a lot to
NYPD Blue,
Homicide: Life on the Street and countless other cop shows that came before it. It's a procedural with a large cast about cops struggling to balance "the job" with their personal lives.

I was afraid this might happen to new shows.
Brett
told you last June about a new show from
ER producer John Wells titled
LAPD. Well,
the show has been retitled to Police, and NBC is still interested in it. However, not only is the number of episodes ordered under dispute (they're looking for 12, but NBC might want six instead), there might not be a place on the schedule for it. Jay Leno is taking up the 10pm time slot Monday through Friday later this year, so they might only want it for a short period of time. And that's if they have room for it at all.

What happens when two really big celebrities want to guest star on one of TV's hottest shows?
The show turns them down.
Both Jennifer Aniston and Ben Stiller wanted to appear on FOX's 24, but producer Joel Surnow turned them down because they are "too recognizable. They'll take you out of the reality."
The show has added a lot of new cast members this season, including Rick Schroder, Peter MacNichol, Regina King, Eric Balfour, Powers Boothe, and Michael Angarano, so maybe a big name star (or stars) would put the entire feel of the show out of whack.

Look, I know that his years on
NYPD Blue redeemed him from a crash course with the child star curse of reality shows and cultural irrelevance, but he'll always be Ricky Schroeder to me. Ricky Schroeder -
Silver Spoons star, friend to "Tap Dance Kid" Alfonso Riberio and owner of the racing car bed. Fortunately for Ricky, he overcame the 80s with the aforementioned three seasons on
NYPD Blue, a comedic turn as Nurse Paul Flowers on
Scrubs and his latest outing as Dr. Dylan West on Lifetime's
Strong Medicine.
Ricky has made another great career move - further distancing himself from that plucky young lad in
The Champ.
He'll be joining the cast of 24 as CTU operative Mike Doyle. Expect to see Schroder team up with Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer in executing "key field ops."
24 is really pulling out all the stops with its latest casting decisions. Schroder is just one of a list of fancy new cast members including Chad Lowe, Regina King, Powers Boothe, Peter MacNicol, James Cromwell, Kal Penn and David Hunt. That's right -
Deadwood's Cy Tolliver meets
Babe's Father Hoggett meets
The Boondocks' Huey Freeman meets Kumar. Who doesn't want to see that?

Deadwood fans take note! Powers Boothe has joined the cast of 24. He'll play the Vice President. D.B. Woodside's character, Wayne Palmer, is now President.
This is just the latest is a series of big casting moves the hit FOX show has made. We've already heard that Eric Balfour, Peter MacNichol, Regina King, and Michael Angarao will be in the cast this season, which starts in January.

Chad Lowe is the latest newcomer to sign on to season six of mega-hit 24. He'll play "savvy politico" Reed Pollock... and that's all FOX is saying about his character. It's great to see Lowe back on television. That really is the medium where he shines. Not only was his role as 'Jesse' on
Life Goes On a classic, he also played one of the freakiest criminals ever on
Law & Order: SVU.
Other notable actors joining the cast this season include Peter MacNicol, Regina King, and James Cromwell. Steamy Eric Balfour will also return this season. FOX is going to post a first look at season six online later this month, we'll let you know when that happens.

I've read about this on a couple of different sites now, so I think it's legit. Regina King has been cast in season six of 24 as Angela Palmer, the sister of Wayne Palmer and the late President David Palmer.
Angela, a powerful lawyer, has no doubt been added to fill the role of "crazy black female" left vacant by the likes of Sherry Palmer and Julia Milliken.
Alright, I kid, but I'm sure she'll find some way to get involved in Jack's plans since he won't be battling it out in China.
Regardless, I'm pleased with the add. She was fantastic in Ray. However, what really has me excited is far more spoiler-ish. It's after the jump if you care to read on.
