Eli Stone: Heartbeat

Eli Stone(S01E10) The title of this episode was called "Heartbeat" because Eli's case involved a heart transplant -- two actually -- but "Reflections" might have been more appropo. Eli awakened in Nate's body and continued to find himself reliving his brother's life ten years before. And not on just any day, but the day that their dad died.

Overall, this was a particularly interesting episode because it seemed to lay the groundwork for where Eli Stone is going. Since it's likely that the show is going to be renewed -- deservedly so -- the prospect of Eli getting that surgery which may correct the aneurysm that's causing his visions, may not be happening after all.

Survivor: Cook Islands: This Tribe Will Self-Destruct in 5, 4, 3... (season finale)

survivor(S13E14) Ah, we've reached the end of a very satisfying season of Survivor. It was one of my favorites in a long time because there were some incredibly strong players out there and some very sharp moves. The main twist of the finale is the introduction of a final three instead of a final two. While it doesn't really impact the voting I think it did mean that two of the most deserving got into the finale rather than one strong player picking the player they believe they can beat.

Survivor: Cook Islands: Why Would You Trust Me?

(S13E09) It's merge time. It's a bummer for me since I really was hoping they'd just let little Aitu fight it out to the finish. But instead we now have Aitutonga which is a bit like a frat keg party mixed with a meeting of the chess club. The best thing about this season is that there are a series of small paired alliances and then a few mercenaries. No one likes a mercenary but they sure keep things interesting.

At the merge feast, Yul offers the first olive branch saying that he looks forward to getting to meet the other tribe. "You've got class," answers Nate enthusiastically. He's enthusiastic, of course, because he is drunk off all the beer at the merge feast. Jonathan is increasingly frustrated with the "youngsters" of Raro who don't seem to care about winning the game and act as if the are on The Real World instead of Survivor. So it seems natural that he should hook up with Yul again.

Six Feet Under: Hold My Hand

Six Feet Under: Hold My HandSix Feet Under: Hold My Hand is very much about how much the family of Ruth's husband George Sibley has been affected by tragedy over the generations.

As we learn in the opening "death" scene, the darkness begins back in 1953, when a young George is talking to his mother - a deeply depressed and trouble soul who seeks and finds a final solution for the demons inside her. Because this particular death scene does not fast-forward to the memorial service arc most other Six Feet Under episodes do, the interplay between sensitive boy and suicidal mother is meant to provide the background for the mental tortures George will experience throughout his life.

This episode finds George slipping back into the darkness. Flashbacks of his mother's death haunt George at inopportune moments, rendering him unable to perform simple tasks like food-shopping. Ruth recognizes the returning episode by erring on the side of kindness, but we can see that she is really being tortured inside. Maggie, George's daughter, recognizes the onset of another "episode." Verbally and with much reluctance, she agrees to seek another round of electro-convulsive treatments for her troubled Dad.
