I'm sure most of you
Smallville fans have already seen this preview pic of
Michael Shanks as Hawkman, taken from the upcoming Justice Society episode. So why am I posting it here?
Because that photo looks weird, man!
First off, I must say that I'm really looking forward to this
Smallville two-parter, and I think
Stargate's Shanks is a fine pick to play Carter Hall.
Smallville has been a lot of fun to watch this season, and I hope the upswing continues through next year.
Now, back to that photo ... Why does it look like a still image from a video game? Is it a mostly CGI shot? Concept art? Did somebody switch the real photo of Shanks with a fan photo manip? I'm hoping that some of you graphic designer-types can tell me what's really going on here, because ... yeah ... that photo looks weird.

Fans of actor Michael Shanks won't have to wait until the next
Stargate DVD movie/telefilm to see him back on the small screen. The
SG-1 alum has
landed the role of Hawkman on the upcoming Justice Society episode of
Smallville.
Shanks' Hawkman won't be the only classic DC Comics hero making an appearance in the episode. Dr. Fate, played by Brent Stait, and Stargirl, played by Britt Irvin, will also appear in the ep, penned by comic book writer Geoff Johns. More Justice Society characters are expected to appear.

SyFy's
Stargate Universe will kick off with help from two familiar faces this fall. Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks will
reprise their Stargate: SG-1 roles in the series premiere of
Universe, which is billed as a darker, character driven sci-fi show.
Shanks' appearance will be a one-time cameo, according to consulting producer Joseph Mallozzi. Anderson, however, will make multiple guest appearances in
Universe in addition to showing up in the two-hour premiere. The actor said he would make "slim appearances" in the first "half dozen" episodes or so.

In case you didn't know it,
Bruce Campbell is my new BFF. Ever since my
visit to the set, I have a new appreciation for the man. So, it pains me to report that Bruce recently was filming in Miami when he came up lame.
While chatting with Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune, creator Matt Nix was talking about the new season of
Burn Notice -- more on that below -- when he casually mentioned
Bruce Campbell was hurt on the set. "He actually just pulled his hamstring doing a stunt, I just got a call, he's on the way to the hospital."

Those of you who are suffering from extreme Stargate SG-1 withdrawal are not going to be happy with the news I am about to deliver. According to a report on Gateworld Stargate: Ark of Truth, which had originally been scheduled for release this fall, has now been pushed back until the first half of 2008. If that makes you unhappy then the announcement that the second film, Stargate: Continuum has been pushed back as well is going to downright make you depressed.

On Stargate SG-1, actor Michael Shanks plays Dr. Daniel Jackson, who the Sci Fi channel's web site describes as an "anthropologist, linguist and expert in ancient and current cultures."
Maybe those skills will come in handy when he joins that cast of 24.
Michael Shanks Online, as well as a Stargate fan web site, are reporting that Shanks is joining 24 in a "recurring role" and is filming scenes this week.
No word on whether he'll be able to apply Dr. Jackson's linguistic and cultural expertise to help Chloe O'Brian with her social awkwardness issues.

We've talked before about the new
Stargate movies, and there are some rumblings and details coming out about the project. Production dates have now been set with the first movie to begin shooting in April, and the second in June. The studio is planning for a fall release, not long after the series raps up. But that isn't the best part. According to a new
article at Gateworld, if DVD sales of the movies warrant it, the studio is looking to make this an ongoing franchise. It's no season 11, but it could signal a change in the way our television is delivered.
In other
Stargate news, IGN has
an interview with Michael Shanks. They start out talking about the company he started with Christopher Judge, Slacktwaddle. Together, the two have produced a calendar and DVD of the
women of sci-fi that is available to order on their website. Perfect for festivus gift giving, and it features Michael's wife Lexa Doig, who is ridiculously beautiful. Later in the interview they get in to what it means to Michael to have had this amazing run with
Stargate and what it has been like working with Claudia Black. There are also some details for the end of the series and the movies, and they do contain spoilers. Good stuff, and worth a look.
