Michael Bay-related stories

With childhood animated icons such as Transformers and G.I.Joe getting the movie treatment (sadly done by Michael Bay), Atom Films put together an animated montage of hypothetical '80s characters (cartoon and otherwise) if they were redone by current directors. I think the sketch would have a little more impact if they did it live-action for each segment rather than animated, but I could be in the minority opinion.
I'm not sure which one is my favorite. The Smurfs done by Peter Jackson is certainly up there. Teddy Ruxpin by Wes Anderson is also a hoot. There are a few that aren't mentioned in the video that I think should have been mentioned:
Which franchises have I forgotten? And which directors do you think can cover these franchises? Which directors would piss on the memory of them and utterly obliterate them?
Video is after the jump.

While the first
Transformers movie was, in my opinion, several different kinds of suck, I give props to Michael Bay and company for doing one good move (and quite possibly the only one) with regards to the sequel. Frank Welker
will be doing the voice of Soundwave. For those who are unaware, Welker did the voice of the same character in the 1980's cartoon. He'll be joining Peter Cullen (the voice of Optimus Prime) as one of the only two voices from that series that is involved with the movie franchise.
While I have less hope for
the sequel then I did for the original, I do recall Soundwave's eerie metallic voice back when I used to watch that cartoon, and cannot help but think that it would be appropriate for a giant robot bad guy in any series about giant robots. Now if only Michael Bay would make other good decisions to go along this one and not continue to screw up one of my favorite childhood icons.

It just has a ring to it, don't you think? I doubt that we'll see Rainn bulking up Stallone-style to save the world with a knife and his guile, but he did just land a role in Michael Bay's Transformers 2. It doesn't really get more action movie than that. Wilson will play a college professor to Shia LaBeouf's Sam. It will be interesting to see how much, if any, Schrute makes it into the character.
But wait, there's more. Fans of the gone but not forgotten Las Vegas will be happy to learn that Josh Duhamel will be returning for the sequel. And fans of ridiculously hot girls will be happy to know that FHM's Sexiest Woman In The World, Megan Fox, is also returning. A warning, that FHM link is safe for my workplace, but might not be for yours. If you can't wait for Bay to finish all of those CGI sequences to get your Rainn fix, you can also catch him this summer in The Rocker as a failed drummer who gets a second chance at fame. That one also features Teddy Geiger (Love Monkey), and the trailer is after the jump.

Both Toon Zone and ICv2 have written of a supposed Entertainment Tonight report that there will be a sequel to the recently-released Transformers movie (which has already been a line of toys, several animated TV series, a comic book and a feature-length animated film).
However, my scan of the ET site has not brought up anything of the sort, and while a couple articles from other sites do allude to the possibility of a sequel, I see nothing that could be construed as an official announcement.

There are
two new Transformers movie trailers on YouTube. The live action movie comes out on July 4th- it's directed by Michael Bay, who does a lot of horror films but also big blockbusters like
Armageddon and
Pearl Harbor.
The trailers are short and fast and it's kind-of hard to see what's happening, but basically mechanical-looking monsters are chasing people and crushing cars. The trailers reveal that the movie is about the Autobots protecting the humans from the Decepticons, who have apparently come here to exterminate us (they're like Cylons!).
I watched both trailers (they're super short) and I had two thoughts: 1) Awesome!, and 2) This is going to be dumb. It looks cool but it also looks just slightly stupid, as fake machines are chasing people down the street and whatnot. Of course, I will still plop down my $10 to go see it in the theater because, where else would you see such a thing?
Check out both videos after the jump (the second one is best) and tell me what you think in comments.

More designs are slipping out of the
Transformers characters that will appear in next summer's movie, directed by Michael Bay.
This guy managed to get some drawings of evil leader Megatron and... there's no other way to say this except his mouth looks like an A-Hole (also a little like
Predator, I guess).
IWatchStuff guy says, "I absolutely hate it as a Transformer design, but love it as the alien rapist in anime porn." Hilarious. What do you think of Megatron 2007?
While the new design seems like a little bit much, the original design looks like he has a gigantic penis. Original box art is after the jump.

Finally! An actual, legitimate trailer for Michael Bay's
Transformers movie is now on YouTube. The trailer really doesn't show any
Transformers-- just the shadow of what might be Megatron. But, the weird part is that they're on Mars. Are the
Transformers even from Mars? I sure don't remember that detail from my childhood. I watched a lot of
Transformers in my time (with three brothers, Barbie loses out) and I thought it was all on Earth. Anyway, it'll wet your appetite for a movie that doesn't even come out until July 4, 2007. The trailer hits theaters next week with the premiere of
Pirates of the Caribbean.
The video is embedded after the jump:

According to
IGN Filmforce, the cast list is shaping up for the
live-action Transformers movies. Stars including Michael Clarke Duncan, Jon Voight, Josh Duhamel, Bernie Mac, Tyrese,
John Turturro (wha?) and others have reportedly signed on to the project, which will be directed by Michael Bay
(
Armageddon, Pearl Harbor).
I still don't understand how they're going to do a live-action version
of cars and airplanes turning into robots.

Are you a car that turns into a robot? Or, are
you a robot that turns into a plane? If so, there could be a place for you in the new
Transformers movie. OK,
not really. According to
Comic Book Movie website,
several roles are still up for grabs. I think they're smaller roles because, for example, I don't see Optimus Prime on
the list. Michael Bay (
Armageddon,
Pearl Harbor) is the director.
The live action film is
currently in pre-production and is scheduled for release on July 4, 2007.
