Yesterday, Leno mocked "Cash for Clunkers" by mocking up a "Cash for Flunkers" video. Tonight he tapped the same well with a "Cash for Chunkers" joke. I guess that's common in the late night arena, but I've never been a fan of using the same exact set-up on different nights to get a different joke. Unless you acknowledge how weak it is when you do it.
Tonight's correspondent was
The Hangover's Rachael Harris, who came on to show us the lost art of bartering in this tough economic times. Like most of the other correspondent segments, it had some funny moments, but it just seemed to go on forever.

(S02E07) From the preview, the opening was pretty much just what I expected. A cryogenic facility at GD is being torn down and someone is discovered frozen in one of the chambers - Fargo's grandfather.

This week Ray Liotta was arrested for drinking and driving. With so many stars getting taken in for DWI's it makes you think that maybe Hollywood is suffering from a severe alcohol problem. But upon closer look, it's clear that folks like Ray Liotta, Nicole Richie and Mel Gibson enjoy paraphrasing the popular bumper sticker... They get drunk, they drive, their expensive lawyers and publicists get them off the hook and do damage control...no problem!

(S05E06) The story for this week's episode was more involved, which is a good thing. A little plot goes a long way. When the plot gets too thin everything rides on the gags, and it is hard to pull off an episode with just gags. While the sex-ed story has been told many times, I liked the
Family Guy take on it.
It gave them a good reason to bring out slutty Lois, and slutty Lois is usually pretty funny, like when she was trying to explain the wonders of sex to Meg. Or showing up for role-playing night dressed as Grimace? Good stuff.

Chevy Chase
has started shooting an episode of
Law & Order in which he plays a celebrity who is stopped for drunk driving and whose "religious prejudice" comes out -- okay, he's playing Mel Gibson. Since this is
Law & Order and not, say,
Reno 911!, Chevy's fictional character will also be found with blood on him, making for a major-crimes angle.
Count on Jack McCoy and the rest of the gang to have this one neatly sorted within forty-three minutes as usual. Win or lose, next week they'll be on to another story distilled from some other headline. One episode, one case, the end.

Before undergoing surgery, Cuban leader Fidel Castro
ceded power to his half-brother Raul. Bureau Chief de Havana Rob Corddry joined in to elaborate. The "Hollaaaaaah!" thing made me laugh because I know I've had occasions when I've accidentally read "Hola" that way. And although the "ceremonial passing of the beard" thing was great, Jon being caught off guard by Rob's sexiness was the best part. Mild flirtation between the
TDS boys makes me happy (there really hasn't been enough of it since Stephen Colbert left).

After Mel Gibson allegedly let loose an anti-Semitic rant while he was being
arrested for DUI last week, many were speculating to what degree the tirade was going to hurt the Oscar-winning director's career. Well, the first piece of evidence may be in: ABC has
decided to drop the Holocaust-themed miniseries it was developing with Gibson's production company.
When pressed by the
Wall Street Journal for a reason why they decided to end
the project, which was based on the diaries of a Jewish woman from the Netherlands who was sheltered from the Nazis by her non-Jewish boyfriend, a network rep told the paper that they're dumping the project because they haven't yet received a script after two years of development. But the timing is interesting, isn't it?

And I'm not talking about those PSA's he filmed for the L.A.P.D. that are now popping up after his arrest for drunk driving over the weekend, nor am I talking about Lethal Weapon. I'm talking about a couple of episodes of the short-lived ABC sitcom Complete Savages a few years ago. Gibson appeared as an L.A.P.D. officer in funny fake PSAs for the department, talking about motorcycle safety, wearing the right equipment, etc. Gibson produced the sitcom too.
Anyone have those spots on tape or DVD and can upload them to YouTube?
