Is it better for Blake that he didn't win Idol?
I was never a Blake fan, but as the end of American Idol season six drew near, I came to admire his attitude even more than his singing or beatboxing skills. I like that Blake never talked back to the judges in a snotty, defensive manner. I like that he took his lumps with a smile and a shrug. I like that he didn't cry "foul" when forced to sing the generic "This Is My Now." In the age of reality TV where everyone wants to win at any cost, it was nice to witness a guy who actually seemed to be enjoying the experience itself.
In a conference call with reporters, Blake said, "I honestly didn't care one bit [about] winning or losing, because I call myself a winner just by getting into the top 10."

Saturday Night Live: Zach Braff/Maroon 5 (season finale) - VIDEOS
(S32E20) I'm not a crazed Zach Braff fan, but I'm familiar enough with his work on Scrubs and Garden State. As the weird fantasy sequences in Scrubs have shown, Braff and the bizarre totally work. So, I was disappointed that he didn't play any outrageous characters in this episode. He was always playing some version of himself. Even in the "Prom Committee" sketch, when he had the chance to portray some completely out-there character, he played the Garden State kid with the Natalie Portman headphones. Oh, well. At least he didn't blatantly stare at the cue cards all night. Also, there was so much Maya Rudolph love in this episode, it sort of felt like she was hosting. I wonder if this is a sign that she's planning on leaving after this season? This then leads me to wonder if Darrell Hammond, who only appeared two or three times in this episode, is ever going to leave.

Did Ryan accidentally announce Melinda's elimination too early on Idol's results show?
On Wednesday night, many of us were shocked to see "resident pro" Melinda Doolittle get booted from American Idol. But more shocking than that, many of us swore we heard Ryan Seacrest mistakenly announce her upcoming ouster prematurely. Here's what happened. After Elliott Yamin performed, and before a commercial break Ryan said, "We've got more music coming up live from Maroon 5. Plus, more emotional results and Melinda Doolittle goes home."
Zach Braff to host season finale of Saturday Night Live
With a new Scrubs contract in hand and a movie to promote, you know that Zach Braff will be on the interview circuit very soon. But part of that circuit will be hosting the season finale of Saturday Night Live on May 19, with musical guest Maroon 5.Braff is going to be promoting his movie The Ex, which co-stars Jason Bateman, Amanda Peet, and SNL cast member Amy Poehler (she's been in a lot of movies lately, hasn't she?). It's the first time Braff has hosted SNL, and I think he'll do well. As all Scrubs fans know, he's good at goofy physical comedy, and I don't think he'll be fazed by the live setting, the cue cards, and everything else that trip up other hosts. By then, he should also know the fate of Scrubs, so we may see a very happy Zach on stage next week.
