Stop Ryan Seacrest for Lindsay Lohan's sake

ryan_seacrest_american_idol
Somebody has to stop Ryan Seacrest. Please. I mean it. He's going too far. Seacrest tweeted that he is talking with Lindsay Lohan about her own reality show. Presumably it'll be in the vein of Ryan's other reality star vehicles, Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Denise Richards: It's Complicated. Notice that I didn't say it would have the same quality as those other shows because if you've ever watched more than an episode, you know that quality is not a requirement. Manipulation, mugging and broad fake emotions are all that's necessary.

So, Lindsay Lohan, heed my warning: stop talking to Ryan Seacrest. No good will come of it.

Lindsay Lohan to visit Dr. Drew?

Lindsay LohanShe's been criticized on and thrown off movie and television sets. She did a mock-ad on eHarmony. She's gone through a lot of pain (mostly self-induced), but Lindsay Lohan hasn't quite bounced back yet. Perhaps she should appear on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew like her father suggests.

It says something about her father that he would suggest going on television to solve her problems. Hasn't he noticed how television has treated his family?

Lohan is doing the smart thing by avoiding the spotlight as she works through her issues. Going on Dr. Drew is akin to Dr. Phil's sad attempt at helping Britney Spears with her issues a little while back. It's easy to tell what Pinsky is actually after when his initial attempt at contact was through Parade Magazine.

On the other hand, the acquisition of Lohan would be a ratings bonanza for VH1. I can just imagine Lohan having one of those inscrutable Jeff Conaway moments.

Lindsay Lohan's eHarmony ad - VIDEO

Lindsay LohanFunny or Die has done it again. This time, they got Lindsay Lohan (former Ugly Betty guest star, among other accomplishments) to participate in a mock eHarmony ad in which she tries to find herself a date. At least, I think it's a mock ad.

The first thought I had watching the "ad" is how deep and gravelly her voice sounds. Some guys like that, but to me it's a symptom of too many cigarettes.

The video itself is pretty funny. I guess her only choice for career salvation is a self-mocking video on a comedy website. I note the irony of having a lesbian promote a website that historically been pretty conservative and unfriendly to the gay community. At least, I think she's a lesbian. She was dating a woman, but now I don't know. I don't read the gossip magazines.

Next, Funny or Die should do a JDate ad from Mel Gibson.

As usual, the video is after the jump.

Lindsay Lohan's Ugly Betty stint cut short

Lindsay UglyCall it stunt casting gone bad...or a good idea on paper that failed to produce anything interesting on film. I'm speaking, of course, of La Diva Lohan's mini-arc on Ugly Betty as Kimmie, Betty's high school nemesis. Lindsay Lohan's guest stint on Ugly Betty has come to an end. If you read some of the stories across the media today, things got very ugly indeed on the New York set. Whether it's true or not that LiLo was a walking disaster area, that she feuded with America Ferrara and irritated the crew, is all conjecture and rumor. The bottom line is that it's over.

E's Kristin Dos Santos confirmed today that all of Lindsay's remaining appearances -- four upcoming episodes, including tonight's -- will be shown. However, that's all there is and there will be no more.

Lindsay Lohan brings mayhem to Betty, will guest judge Project Runway

This season of Project Runway lost some star power when Jennifer Lopez pulled out of judging the final runway shows due to a "foot injury" (which apparently didn't hamper her in a triathalon the next weekend).

But the reality show plans to make up for it. Access Hollywood says that Lindsay Lohan will be the guest critic in the premiere of the sixth season, the first with new producers and a new network in Lifetime.

Lohan's already in New York for her guest role on Ugly Betty, and the cast can't believe the "mayhem" she incites everywhere she goes. Ana Ortiz told ABC News Radio, "It really puts it into perspective the bubble that she has to live in ... people yelling at her and cussing at her. It's unbelievable."

Katy Perry plans to make out with a female celeb at the VMAs

katy perryThere's a difference between cheap, tawdry publicity stunts that are (pop) culturally significant and those that are just, well, cheap and tawdry. An example of the former is Madonna's infamous VMA performance from 2003 in which she performed and locked lips with not only Christina Aguilera, but Britney Spears as well. An example of the latter would be basically anything involving Katy Perry.

if you've walked past a TV, into a retail store or gotten into a car this summer, chances are you've heard Katy Perry's single, "I Kissed a Girl." There's an even bigger chance that if you just read that sentence, "I Kissed a Girl" is now going to be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. Perry is performing that song during this year's VMA telecast on September 7th, and if you haven't already guessed, she's looking for a girl to kiss.

Ugly Betty meets Regis & Kelly

regis and kellyOne of the best things about moving your show to New York? New York guest stars. Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa have signed up to play themselves on the September 25th season premiere of Ugly Betty. Conveniently, Ugly Betty's star, America Ferrera, announced the casting news while she was a guest on ... Live With Regis & Kelly.

In addition to the morning duo, other guest stars lined up for the new East Coast version of Betty include Ripa's husband, former All My Children star Mark Consuelos and Long Island native Lindsay Lohan. Lohan is reprising her role as Betty's high school rival for five episodes.

I'm a sucker for shows that are filmed in New York, so I'm super-psyched about this season of Ugly Betty. Now that they've already snagged Regis & Kelly, what other New Yorkers should Ugly Betty try to get as a guest star? Personally, my fingers are crossed for Anderson Cooper. But then again, my fingers are always crossed for Anderson Cooper.

No Emmy nomination for Rebecca Romijn and here's why

Rebecca Romijn - UBThe Emmy nominations won't be announced until July 17, but we can tell you right now without a doubt that Ugly Betty's Rebecca Romijn will not be among the outstanding supporting actress in a comedy category at the Emmys. No, we're not psychic. It's just that her spokesman has confirmed that her name was never actually submitted. DOH! And why was that, you wonder. No good reason, said her rep, "It was an oversight."

According to L.A. Times' Tom O'Neil, this isn't really that far-fetched an occurrence. Tim Allen, at the height of his Home Improvement success, missed a chance for an Emmy nomination when somebody fumbled the ball. The next year, his paperwork was hand-delivered, accompanied by the University of Southern California marching band.

Romijn's omission -- on the surface -- looks like a mistake. Yes, it's true that her status on the show is going from series regular to recurring, but I don't believe she purposely kept her name out of the running to in some way act out in protest against the show. It makes no sense? How is she hurting Ugly Betty by not getting an Emmy nomination? No, this was a screw up, nothing more.

Lindsay Lohan bows out of Emmy consideration ... really

ugly betty llEither an Emmy isn't worth very much these days, or Hollywood actresses are finding that the publicity from spurning a nomination is worth more than the nomination itself. First Grey's Anatomy star -- and last year's Emmy winner -- Katherine Heigl removed her name from consideration for an Emmy in 2008, and now another has followed suit.

Lindsay Lohan is not submitting her Ugly Betty performance for Emmy consideration. What? You don't remember Lindsay's performance, those few minutes of a flashback when Betty recalls being used as a dodge ball target in high school? Yeah, Lindsay really put in Emmy-worthy work there!

This is so ridiculous when it comes to Lindsay. There was no chance she'd be nominated, so removing her name is a stunt. On the other hand, Heigl's move is a real slap in the face to the writers of Grey's Anatomy.

Super Skank Wednesday: Dina, Denise, Byata, & Rece - VIDEOS

Serch & YoYoWelcome to Super Skank Wednesday. This is where I celebrate the awesomely skanky people on the following shows: Miss Rap Supreme, I Love Money, Charm School, New York Goes to Hollywood, and The Surreal Life. Basically, I'll discuss the skankalicious shows that make VH1 the network it is today.

Notice how I've changed my introduction? I almost added Living Lohan and Denise Richards: It's Complicated but I realized that would compromise my integrity. I did, however, watch both of those shows Sunday night. I'll tell you about them and the finale of Miss Rap Supreme after the jump.

Ugly Betty: Jump (season finale)

Becki Newton, Alec Mapa, and Michael Urie
(S02E18) After all the hype surrounding the Lindsay Lohan appearance, I was expecting more than a brief flashback that explained Betty's hatred of sports. Even the little French kid had more screen time! It would be one thing if Lohan was introduced briefly midseason and continued to make appearances; that would have made sense. Introducing her for thirty seconds before the season's end was a strange choice. I look forward to seeing how they reintroduce Kimberly in the Ugly Betty present, but I wish they had waited until next season's premiere to bring her in.

Ugly Betty will be better in New York says exec producer

Ugly bettyNow that we know that Ugly Betty is coming back next season (it was never in doubt) and that the Ugly Betty production is moving to New York, executive producer Silvio Horta has shared a few more bits of news and tidbits about Betty and company.

For starters, the producers are determined to streamline the show, taking advantage of being in NYC and sharpening the focus of the show. Horta said the goal for the Ugly Betty writing team for season three is "to make the show more about Betty's journey and to weave the characters into more unified, emotionally grounded plots."

Boston Legal: Roe v. Wade, The Musical

Where ya been, Carl?(S04E12) "What's the tragic part... beside the music?" - Shirley Schmidt

My first reaction to the opening scene this week was one of amazement. First of all, who was it that decided Missy was the character everyone was dying to see again? I disliked the character the first time and, now that she is sans Selleck, I despise her. Furthermore, what person in their right mind is supposed to feel sympathy for a confessed semen thief who is so mentally unbalanced that she borders on dangerous? By the way, it takes a special kind of actor to pull off the racist comments without being completely offensive. Meredith Patterson is not that actor. Nice voice, though.

The Best and Worst of 2007: Rich's list - VIDEO

30 Rock is the Best Comedy that Deserved an EmmyHere we are again. Another year has passed us by and what do we have to show for it? A little more gray hair, a little less money in our pockets (have you noticed how the price of, um, everything has gone up?), and a little more fear that the world in slowly unraveling. Normally, television is there to soothe our brows in these times. Alas, the current pissing match between the Studios and the Writers is stifling that ability to the point that we may all be having Chaucer parties by mid-year because there's nothing to watch on the tube.

Not sounding too bitter, am I?

Well, you're not here to read about doom and gloom (unless it's a review of 24). You're here to see what I, and many of my TV Squad colleagues, thought television's best and worst were for 2007. So, without further interruptions on how much I paid for my daughter's karate lessons (you DON'T want to know), here is my list of best and worst for the previous year.

Lindsay Lohan on Ugly Betty? Stranger things have happened

Lindsay, meet Betty. Possibly. So, the redemption tour of former teenage star turned uncontrollable addict Lindsay Lohan begins on network television, does it? According to an article in The New York Observer that may certainly be the case. And, I guess there's no better place to get back in the public's good graces then on a high-profile show like Ugly Betty.

According to unidentified sources on the set of Betty, Lohan's people are in serious talks to have her appear in a three-episode arc. She would portray the assistant manager of the fast food restaurant where Betty's father currently works. Our darling Betty would take pity on the hapless manager, who would be a former high school beauty queen who has hit hard times, and get her a job at Mode.
