Fantasy football is a tricky thing. You either love it or you hate it and that largely depends on whether you're good or bad at it. For the most part, the same can be said about FX's newest comedy
The League. When it's good, it
is good, but when it's bad... well, you get the picture.
The show, which premieres tomorrow night, Thursday 10/29, at 10:30 p.m. after
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, is FX's first solid attempt to produce a lasting companion piece to
Sunny and, given some of its predecessors (like
Starved or
Testees), it'd be easy to write
The League off. But, like a two-minute drill that gradually picks up steam,
The League might actually go... all... the... way.
OK -- no more football metaphors.

You see this picture? That's Christopher Egan in NBC's new midseason drama
Kings. He'll be playing a David-like character -- as in David versus Goliath -- when the series debuts later this year or in early 2009. And in an interesting casting coup reported by EW's Michael Ausiello,
Macaulay Culkin has been cast on Kings as King Silas' nephew. The king, by the way, is the formidable Ian McShane.
Joel reported just how formidable McShane is at last summer's TCA.
Culkin is a long way from the adorable Kevin McAllister in the
Home Alone movies, but he's still got that charismatic appeal.
Since
Kings is all about power, as McShane's nephew who has been exiled from the kingdom and returns after David's success defeating the Goliath of the show -- a killer tank -- I can see him perhaps as a Mordred character. In other words, an antagonist with issues.
Culkin isn't the only name to join
Kings in some capacity: Brian Cox, Miguel Ferrer, Leslie Bibb and Michael Stahl-David are also on board for guest arcs.

On yesterday's
Howard Stern show, Artie Lange revealed that he'll be filming an episode of
Entourage this week; there are very little details about the part he's going to play, aside the fact that his character is supposed to make out with a character played by
Leslie Bibb. Jeez, talk about an odd couple... the tall, blonde, lovely Bibb making out with 275-pound Lange. I think Artie's great, but even I can't make that pairing work.
Anyway, it looks like Artie's fame is growing, despite the fact that Howard's show isn't on terrestrial radio anymore. My guess is that Artie can now let go on Sirius; his sense of humor and timing are really shining on satellite, and people are noticing. Also, Lange wrote and starred in a new independent comedy,
Beer League, which will be out in September. It's getting good reviews at film festivals, so that may also be upping Artie's profile. Either way, good for him. He's one of the good guys in the business.
