There aren't many actresses out there that you could affectionately call a "broad," but Megan Mullally's one of them. Ever since she came on the scene a decade ago as the caustic and spoiled Karen Walker on
Will & Grace, Mullally has shown that she can be bawdy with the best of them.
Now, after a foray into the talk show world and a turn as a disabled and ugly -- but desirable -- chief of medicine on Rob Corddry's web series
Children's Hospital, Mullally is back on series TV, on ABC's new comedy
In The Motherhood (premiering Thursday at 8 PM ET), which was based on a
web series that took episode ideas from submissions by real moms. In the series, Mullally plays Rosemary, a "bad ass," as Mullally calls her, who has raised the perfect son even though she's an imperfect mom.
In this quickie interview, Mullally talks about the new show, about a rumor that she was in a catfight with her co-star Cheryl Hines, about how Rosemary and Karen could be the new Odd Couple, and running her Kerry Weaver-esque
Children's Hospital character past Laura Innes.

That line between web content and traditional television just continues to get blurrier. ABC has ordered 13 episodes of In The Motherhood. In case you missed it, the show didn't start out with the traditional pilot formula. It's a web-based show starring Jenny McCarthy, Leah Remini, and Chelsea Handler. The three of them play girlfriends and the stories told come from real stories submitted by mothers from across the country. Or, people pretending to be mothers. Queen Latifah couldn't make it work. Megan Mullally struck out, too. In fact, if you think about it, more stars fail in their attempts to become talk show hosts than succeed. For every Ellen DeGeneres and Tyra Banks, there's a Caroline Rhea and Magic Johnson.
So, will sitcom star Leah Remini go from the
King of Queens to the queen of daytime talk? CBS -- home of
King of Queens for a very successful run from 1998-2007 -- is developing
a daytime show for Leah Remini that's being called something different than a typical talk show.

Some quick baby news! Kevin James and his wife Steffiana just had their
second child Shea Joelle James. Thank goodness she doesn't have a crazy celebrity baby name (I'm looking at you,
Pilot Inspektor). Actually, the news here is not about the baby, but about Steffiana.
Look at her! She's hot! Possibly hotter than Leah Remini, Kevin's onscreen lady on the
King of Queens. Doesn't this give a little bit of hope to all you fellows out there that don't quite have leading man looks? The lesson here is... You too can get the girl, as long as you have a great sense of humor. And long-running sitcom.
Oh, and Keri Russell just had
a baby boy, but she doesn't have a smokin' hot wife.

(S09E12 / S09E13) Last month, I wrote a post praising
The King of Queens for
not making their 200th episode into any kind of "special" episode, just doing the same goofy but funny comedy the show has always done. There was no character development, no great revelations, no massive earth-shattering changes, and no story arcs. I expected them to do the same for the finale; just show another day in the life of the Heffernans and fade to black.
We got none of that; in fact, everything I listed above was exactly what we got, not only in this one-hour finale, but the two episodes before that. Drama isn't this show's strong suit, and it made for a finale that was wildly out of character in comparison with the rest of the series.

Actress Leah Remini is moving to the internet for her
next gig, now that
The King of Queens is over. She'll star in a series of webisodes called
In the Motherhood. It's an interesting premise, really. The episodes will be based on, or at least incorporate, consumer-generated stories about being a mom. It's all on
this website, which is being promoted heavily on
The Ellen DeGeneres Show. There's a video on the website where Remini asks moms to write in about their funny stories and then vote on the other stories that were submitted. The favorites will be written into episodes of
In the Motherhood.Right now, there are five episodes planned for a ten-week stretch starting on May 11.

Believe it or not,
The King of Queens aired its 200th episode last night. They didn't do anything special to celebrate it. No guest stars, no plot twists, no revelations; Kevin James and company just did the same thing they've been doing since 1998, which is put on a funny show that will never be compared to
The Office, but it won't be compared to
According to Jim, either.
The plots? Doug and Carrie wonder how Deacon and Kelly can afford a vacation home when they can't, and do their best to try to find out. Also, Arthur coaches Spence in the art of finding a new job, then swoops in and steals a position Spence was looking to get. Nothing different than we haven't seen before, and the humor was the same: some laugh-out-loud moments, a few chuckle-worthy moments, mostly generated by the actors' timing and skill rather than the script itself.

CBS has announced that, after nearly a decade of being on the air,
King of Queens will end after its current season runs out in May. Now that
Will & Grace and
That 70s Show are out of the picture, the program is currently the longest-running sitcom on air
Although the show still experiences some decent success in ratings and only recently got their first Emmy nomination (a nod to star Kevin James, this year), I think it's time to pull the plug. I actually used to find the show relatively enjoyable (compared to similar sitcoms like
According to Jim), but the whole "Check out the fat guy with the hot chick!" thing began to wear thin a few seasons ago.
Ooh! Here's an idea: A wacky sitcom all about a fat wife and her super-hot husband. Haha, I'm just kidding... We've already seen that on
Roseanne, with Roseanne Barr and that smokin' super-fox John Goodman.

Television actress Leah Remini (King of Queens) is one of the few who has seen and even held Suri Cruise, the spawn of Tom and
Katie Kate Holmes. There's all sorts of speculation about why we haven't seen the three-month-old baby yet, including theories that she doesn't exist and that the Cruises didn't get offered enough money for baby photos. (Personally, I think they are simply keeping the child away from cameras but it's more fun to say that little Suri is an alien who has already been beamed to another planet)
In its July 31st issue, People magazine reports that Remini held little Suri during a visit to the couple's home in Los Angeles. She tells the magazine that Suri looks just like Tom and Kate and is "beautiful". Why does Remini get to see and hold her? I'm guessing it has something to do with her
religious affiliation.

In tomorrow's issue of People magazine,
American
Idol and E! television host Ryan Seacrest
reveals that he
used to be quite pudgy. At age 13, he weighed 180 pounds because he was a junk food junkie. He says, "I was
overweight because I used to come home and eat a cookie sheet of nachos and watch Oprah every day of my life."
Oprah? Really? Seacrest says he used to be teased by his classmates about his weight (but not about Oprah?) and he
dreaded going to the beach because he didn't want anyone to see him with his shirt off. Now Ryan is 157 pounds, he runs
four miles a day, and has a personal chef. The upcoming article in People also includes diet secrets from other
television stars like Leah Remini (King of Queens) and Kelly Osbourne. I would say the secret is already out: get rich
so you can pay a personal trainer and a chef.
