There's another Bravo to NBC crossover afoot. First,
The Real Housewives of New Jersey popped over to play themselves on
Mercy. Now it turns out that
Kathy Griffin is on her way to Law and Order: SVU. And, get this, she's not playing herself. The queen of the D-list will be acting.
Kathy has been tapped to play a lesbian activist in the February 10 episode. As anyone who's watched Kathy on her Emmy-award winning reality show,
My Life on the D-List, Kathy is a shameless over-achiever and loves to work. She's ambitious and determined to get off the D-list. As she might say, she would go to the opening of a refrigerator if it would help her career.

I started watching
Law & Order during the Briscoe and Green days, so I don't know a whole lot about Detective Rey Curtis, Briscoe's former partner from '94-'99. What I do know is that
Benjamin Bratt is
pulling a Chris Noth and returning to the show that gave him his big break.
Bratt, whose A&E series,
The Cleaner, was just canceled, is
reprising his role as Detective Rey Curtis on the original
Law & Order. However, it doesn't look like the current crime-fighting duo of Lupo (
Jeremy Sisto) and Bernard (
Anthony Anderson) have anything to worry about: Bratt is only signed up for one episode.

If a show is good enough to get nominated for an Emmy, why not watch it for hours on end while you forget forever what the sun looks like?
USA Networks has announced that it's reaching around and patting itself enthusiastically on the back for its Emmy nomination collection with a marathon event of
Monk,
House and
Law & Order: SVU. The chain of would-be red carpet winners runs Friday, September 4 through Sunday, September 6 and includes the episodes of each show up for awards.
Monk is all USA's baby and garnered 16 total Emmy nominations including seven nominations and three wins for Tony Shalhoub (Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series).
House is Fox and
SVU is shared with NBC. But it's one big happy Emmy family for USA.

More good news out of NBC's top drama.
Wentworth Miller is guesting on Law and Order: SVU, and this time he's not going to be behind bars. The
Prison Break actor will star in the September 23 premiere of
Law and Order: SVU, which is kicking off its 11th season on the NBC.
Wentworth Miller's casting comes on the heels of
NBC re-signing of Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni to two-year extensions as the show's mainstays, Detectives Benson and Stabler, as well as the return of Stephanie March as Alex Cabot and a four-show arc for Christine Lahti. I'd say that the powers-that-be are stacking the deck with prime talent to make sure
Law and Order: SVU maintains its top quality status.

Well, that's a relief. After months of speculation that NBC would be bringing
Law & Order: SVU back for the 11th season without the two stars that have anchored the show, there's good news.
Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni have re-signed with
SVU. They pair agreed to stick with NBC's top-rated Neilsen drama for two more seasons.
Good news is probably an understatement. It's really great news because with
SVU moving to Wednesday, 9 p.m., the show really didn't need to shake up the cast at this point in time. Stability mattered and NBC found a way to bring the two stars into the fold, offering them both the flexibility they sought.

This doesn't come as a surprise, does it?
NBC has ordered an 11th season of Law & Order: SVU. It isn't a surprise because of all the shows on NBC's roster – not including
ER, which just had a celebrated swan song – are struggling in the ratings.
Law & Order SVU is the lone exception, still drawing nearly 10 million viewers and at least keeping NBC challenging in the Tuesday night ratings.
It's not as strong as it once was, but what show is on NBC? It would have been network hari-kari to let
SVU hit the road.

There's a reason why when you watch
The Mentalist, there are always subtle close ups of
Simon Baker's eyes or of his mouth when he's talking. The producers know he's hot and they know women are watching. Between him, the cast of
Friday Night Lights, and a whole other
list of DILF's, there's a lot of male eye-candy on TV right now. But what about the women? Of course television is filled with hot chicks, but who do other women like to watch?
There are certain female characters who, when you watch them, you just want to hang out with. Either you think she'd be a good friend, or exciting to have around, or maybe you just kind of want to
be her. This, my friends, is a Girl Crush. Here is my list of Top Ten TV Girl Crushes.

This is what I call thinking out of the box. Instead of simply
replicating NCIS, the producers seem to be envisioning a completely different show. Reports claim that the CBS
spinoff of NCIS may star Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J.
Could you find two more different actors to pair in a procedural? (Okay, Ice-T and Richard Belzer on
Law & Order: SVU aren't a typical teaming either, but at that's supposedly a New York police squad.)
Anyway, it's still in the talking stages, but it's exciting nonetheless. O'Donnell, best known for playing Robin in two
Batman movies, being Al Pacino's young charge in
Scent of a Woman, and more recently hunked it up as Dr. Finn Dandridge on
Grey's Anatomy, would be playing an investigator for the Navy who's a master of disguise. Apparently, he can fake out everyone around him.

I read Brad's post about
NBC keeping Jay Leno in the fold and I think it's the latest move by NBC to ruin TV. Can Jeff Zucker be impeached? I'm so fed up with the way he's be running -- ruining -- the network that I'm ready to bust. Seriously, is there anybody over there that still has any connection to what viewers want to see?
Basically, NBC is ready to try something completely radical and -- in my estimation -- ridiculous, even though it would keep Leno from being lured to another network.

On
Two and a Half Men, Charlie Sheen plays a vulgar playboy, a shallow guy who's more interested in booze, women and having a good time than being responsible and working hard. The role has earned him a couple of Emmy nominations and a lot of money. A lot of money. In fact, in
a new poll from TV Guide, Charlie Sheen is the highest paid actor on TV, making $825,000 per episode; in a season of 23 shows, that comes out to nearly $20 million.
That's more than he could make in the movies, and unlike films, Charlie can keep on raking it in on
Two and a Half Men for years. The show is a huge hit in syndication, so more episodes will simply mean more money down the road.
Right behind Charlie on the list is fellow CBS leading man,
CSI's William Petersen. He's making $600,000 an episode. He's only doing ten episodes this season, but since he's also an executive producer on the series, he's probably making even more.

When
Law & Order: SVU returns on September 23, it's bringing a trio of guest stars with it.
Luke Perry (90210), Sara Gilbert (Roseanne, 24), and Julie Bowen (Ed, Lost) are all set to make appearances. Perry and Bowen play a couple accused of abusing their foster child. Gilbert is on board to play the child's biological mother.
In addition to the main foster-child abuse storyline, the premiere is going to deal with Benson's (
Mariska Hartigay) attempted rape a the end of last season, as well as Fin's (
Ice-T) possible transfer out of SVU. The premiere also marks the debut of the new ADA played by
Michaela McManus (
One Tree Hill).

Of all the
Law & Orders -- and I watch all three --
Special Victims Unit is the one that indulges in more character-oriented storytelling. That's all for the better, as far as I'm concern, whether that means going inside Olivia's mind as she's struggled with knowing she was a child of rape, or suffering when Elliot's marriage was on the rocks.
When the new season of
SVU returns on Tuesday, September 23, we'll be getting some more character development with a special appearance by Emmy winner James Brolin.
Richard Belzer, who plays Detective Munch,
mentioned Brolin's guest appearance to
TV Guide, saying, "He's a great guy; he's got a big fight scene with Stabler, so that should be fun."
Brolin is playing a former military man who shares a past connection with Elliot. Hmm...was Christopher Meloni ever on
Pensacola: Wings of Gold? Brolin, by the way, turns 68 this Friday, July 18. Remember when he was the hot, young motorcycle-riding Dr. Steve Kiley on

The failure of
Secret Talents of the Stars has had ripple effects on the CBS prime time schedule. With
Big Brother coming to an end and
Secret Talents unable to make it past one episode,
the return of Shark, which was going to come back on Tuesdays at 10 p.m., will now return on Tuesday at 9 p.m. for three broadcasts beginning April 29. Had
Secret Talents worked, CBS wouldn't be scrambling on Tuesdays.
The CBS Tuesday lineup for next Tuesday, therefore, will be
NCIS, Shark and a rerun of CSI. Then on May 6, it'll be
NCIS, Shark and
a CSI: Miami rerun. On May 13,
NCIS, Shark and a
Criminal Minds rerun.
What'll be interesting for
Shark fans -- and TV geeks in general like us -- will be to see exactly how well the James Woods legal drama performs with a strong lead in like
NCIS. Even the reruns scheduled to follow the three episodes are all strong support. Will this Tuesday hammock experiment be advantageous to
Shark, securing the kind of Nielsen numbers that will be a deciding factor in the show's renewal for next season?
