The L Word season premiere streams online (free) first

The L WordShowtime's upcoming fifth season of The L Word will premiere first on OurChart.com, a lesbian-focused social community, according to BusinessWire.com. The OurChart.com premiere is slated for December 30, 2007 followed by the Showtime premiere on January 6, 2008. The choice is no coincidence, as co-founder and CEO of OurChart.com, Ilene Chaiken, is also the creator/producer of The L Word.

This is, regardless of anything else, another example of how technology and the new online media is becoming more and more intertwined with traditional television viewing.

The L Word's stylish cause

L WordShowtime series The L Word has partnered with a group of designers to bring the "L"ements of Style to viewers. Top sportswear, jewelry and accessories designers have introduced a line of products that capitalize on the show's sexy image. Ten percent of all sales go to breast cancer research organizations.

Among the designers included in the project are Desperate Housewives' costume designer Cat Adair and Queer Eye for the Straight Girl's token lesbian Honey Labrador. (I'm going to assume that she was named by Ian Fleming.) You can make Honey model the clothes for your amusement online in an interactive fashion show. The items for sale are way more appropriate for your Portia de Rossi lesbian than your Rosie O'Donnell lesbian, but that's pretty consistent with the L Word's glam appeal. Maybe Trump could buy up all the clothes to outfit an army of femme lesbians and send them over to Rosie's house to steal her girlfriend. According to the Don, "it wouldn't be very hard."

Showtime offering shows through Amazon's Unbox

showtimeIf you're looking for another way to watch your favorite Showtime programming, and you can get past the idea of a Windows-only service that hasn't exactly been met with open arms, you can now purchase episodes of The L Word, Weeds and Sleeper Cell through Amazon's new Unbox download service. Also, as a special promotion, you can download the pilot episode of Dexter for a penny until October 25. Other shows will cost $1.99 per episode. Episodes of Penn and Teller: Bullshit!, Fat Actress and Free for All are also available, as well as championship boxing and the Dave Chappelle special For What It's Worth. Also note I'm adding this to my growing list of TV shows both free and otherwise you can find online, a post that's worth checking out once in awhile.
