Man,
Intervention is a downer. Between the alcoholism, the anorexia and the
8-10 per-day dust can huffing habits, it is
really hard to watch that show and maintain a positive outlook on life. Luckily,
Kristin Chenoweth, Broadway diva and effervescent star of
Pushing Daisies, has found a solution to all that nastiness: a peppy song about the dangers of crystal meth.
Chenoweth has teamed up with Funny or Die to create her own episode of
Intervention. It still has distraught family members confronting an addict in a nondescript hotel room, but instead of a laundry list of ways that Bob, a musician and a meth addict, is ruining his and everyone else's life, there's a peppy song about "Tina," the poor man's cocaine, that includes warnings about "waking up in a pile of your own urine and doo-doo."

The Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards -- affectionately known as the Shmemmys to Kathy Griffin fans -- has at least one more viewer this year. I will be watching the other Emmy presentation, the awards that come before the Primetime Emmys. The big one with all the major categories, musical numbers, clip montages and near-mandatory attendance by the nominees is the Emmys. The other one is the technical awards. But I will be watching for a very good reason:
Neil Patrick Harris and Sarah Chalke will be co-hosting the Creative Arts Emmys this year on the E! channel, September 20.
Neil, an Emmy nominee for
How I Met Your Mother, and Sarah, who is also a guest/semi-regular on
Mother as well as a permanent regular on
Scrubs, are a great choice for this gig. They're smart, funny, quick, attractive and maybe even unpredictable.
I mean, wouldn't it be a hoot if Neil came on stage in his
Dr. Horrible gear and asked Sarah if her Hanes undies were riding up or doing their job? She should then counter and ask him about that smell, you know ... the Old Spice? Hey, maybe they should get Bruce Campbell to confront Neil about the Old Spice deal -- that was Bruce's commercial before Neil took over!

One of my favorite parts of the summer press tour was the last day, mainly because a busload of critics got to go to the Warner Bros. lot and tour sets from
ER, Chuck, and
Pushing Daisies (we also saw the
Dollhouse set on the Fox lot later that day).
On the Pie Hole set of
Daisies, for instance, all the stars and producers were available for interviews. Kristin Chenoweth held court right outside the pie-shaped diner's entrance, sporting a splint on her right hand from a recent bat bite (I kid you not... wonder what scene they were shooting at the time). But I was there to ask her about how she felt about being the model for Harriet Hayes on
Studio 60 two years ago. And she was very candid about the situation,especially in light of the fact that her former (and current?) boyfriend,
S60 creator Aaron Sorkin, never was.
First, though, a question about Jeff Probst; Chenoweth dropped the tidbit that the two of them dated when she announced his Emmy nomination the week before. Audio is after the jump.

A few thoughts about Kristin Chenoweth, if you don't mind. First, congratulations to the
Pushing Daisies' actress --she plays Olive -- for snagging an Emmy nomination as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. And kudos for the effervescent and spontaneous adlibs and asides she and Neil Patrick Harris -- another favorite of mine -- brought to the
reading of the nominations Thursday morning.
So often the reading of the nominations is as dull as dishwater, like the stars doing the announcing are simply trying to get through it without tripping over their tongues. Not so with Chenoweth and Harris; they were delightful together and added a kick to the nomination announcement.

CBS is rounding up some
A-listers to appear at The Tony Awards this year. Alec Baldwin (
30 Rock), Kristin Chenoweth (
Pushing Daisies), Glenn Close (
Damages), Richard Griffiths, Laura Linney (
John Adams), John Lithgow, Liza Minnelli, Mary-Louise Parker (
Weeds), Daniel Radcliffe, Brooke Shields (
Lipstick Jungle) and Marisa Tomei will be presenters at this year's award show. As previously announced, Whoopi Goldberg of
The View, a Tony-winner herself, will be this year's host.
Also, the Tony Award-winning productions
The Lion King and Rent will make rare encore performances at this year's gala.
The 62nd Annual Tony Awards will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 15th from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. ET (delayed PT) on CBS. Here's my issue with the
Tonys. It's long and it's usually a snore. Do you think this effort to spice up the show will pay off? Does it make you want to tune in?

The writers' strike forced some of my favorite shows into an unexpected, summer-long hiatus and delayed the return of others. I'm grateful that shows like
Lost still have new episodes, but the second half of this TV season hasn't felt the same. I especially miss the promising new series that were cut short.
It feels like other shows have been on hiatus forever.
Flight of the Conchords was supposed to return this year, but had its premiere pushed back until 2009. I miss Bret, Jemaine, and their strange circle of friends. I've been wondering about the fates of several absent characters lately. So many storylines were left unresolved.
Here's a short list of some of the faces I can't wait to see again:

The buzz about ABC's Oscar broadcast is starting in earnest, and yesterday it was announced that Kristin Chenoweth, the adorable Olive Snook on
Pushing Daisies, has been tapped to sing one of the Academy Award nominated songs, "That's How You Know" from the film
Enchanted, according to the
Baltimore Sun. Kristin will be joined by Marlon Saunders, who played the Central Park Calypso singer in the movie. By the by,
Enchanted's star, Amy Adams, will also be singing on the show. She's doing, "Happy Working Song," another nominated song from the Disney hit. FYI, that's the sing-along tune she did in the film with cockroaches, rats and other happy vermin. You can just imagine Walt Disney spinning in his grave, can't you?

(S01E09) "There is an unpleasant chill in the air." - The NarratorAnd we have arrived: this week's episode was the last completed-before-the-strike episode of ABC's
Pushing Daisies. The quote I put under the picture may not have been the most important one said in the episode (the bombshell quote is a tad too shocking to put up front) but it does highlight the mood and tone of the episode: chilly. "Corpsicle" is not my favorite
Pushing Daisies episode but it offered good reveals, some fantastic lines from Emerson and Olive, and it finally gave the aunts (at least one of them) a real purpose in the series.

"Yes." - ChuckIt was
announced about two months ago that Molly Shannon would guest star on ABC's
Pushing Daisies and the day, err... evening, has come. I've read a lot of comments from fans saying that they were somewhat scared after hearing she would guest star mostly because they thought her acting wasn't good enough for the show. In retrospect, her acting wasn't that great but it wasn't that bad either since
Daisies is over the top at times.

(S01E07) "The mere smell of it made him feel, if only for an hour, exactly like he wanted to feel: safe and warm and loved, which is why he became the pie maker." - NarratorABC lost a good and fun opportunity to offer
Pushing Daisies viewers a chance to get up close and really personal with the show and maybe attract new people who would have been interested in a scratch 'n' sniff event! Yes, it would have been pretty much a copy of what
NBC did last year with My Name Is Earl, but having a scratch 'n' sniff card to use throughout this olfactory episode would have been just as magical as the episode itself! Okay, maybe the smell of the sock and the sewer would have been terrible but it would have been interesting to smell Ned, Emerson, and "honey and death" (aka Chuck). Okay, maybe that would have been a bad idea. Let's move on to the episode instead.

last week's episode, I was as worried as Joel was/is about
Pushing Daisies's future. With such a stellar pilot, it was a given that the subsequent episodes wouldn't be as great but that second episode was a letdown. Narration aside (I'll get to this later on), this week's episode reassured me that
