Kristin Chenoweth to return to Glee

glee kristin chenoweth
I didn't think we'd seen the last of boozy old gleester April Rhodes, and now it's official. Kristin Chenoweth is reprising her role on Glee for at least one more episode, to air in early 2010. Creator Ryan Murphy didn't divulge any more info about her role, so there's no telling if she'll spend her time getting Kurt drunk again, or if she actually learned a lesson from her last visit and found happiness in Branson.

What's interesting is that Chenoweth has made no secret about her desire to return to Glee, perhaps in a permanent capacity, so could this second visit be paving the way for a place in the cast? Again, Murphy is keeping mum, but what if it is true? Where would they put April Rhodes? Do you really want her to be a member of glee club? Would she help Will coach? Will she form a love square between Will, Terri and Emma? After all, he did have a monster crush on her in high school.

Kristin Chenoweth gleeful about Glee...and would love to return

kristin_chenowethDid you see Kristin Chenoweth on Glee the other night? Fully recovered from her migraine the night that she won the Emmy for Pushing Daisies, the prolific Kristin Chenoweth talked about the appearance on Glee -- including an interview with Nick the other day -- and she was enthusiastic about it.

She said it was a blast playing a character as wild as April Rhodes. She liked it so much, Kristin would like to make Glee a permanent thing. Or at least be asked back for future guest appearances.

She may get her wish. Kristin told TV Guide, "Ryan Murphy, the creator and genius behind Glee, has indicated that he'd love for April to come back some time. However, they are all working hard to figure out stories all the time. It'd be great for it to make sense for her to come back."

Glee: The Rhodes Not Taken

Glee: The Rhodes Not Taken
(S01E05) "Oh, Bambi, I cried so hard when they shot your mom." - A drunken Kurt to Emma

Ok, after hitting it out of the park since the debut (for me anyway), this episode sort of flatlined for me. At least, it didn't grab me as much as, say, last week's episode with the Beyonce song and the football team dancing on the field. I couldn't wait to get on here and right about that episode, but this week? Not so much. Maybe it's because there was not enough Kurt in this episode. Need.More.Kurt. Need more of Kurt saying lines like, "Glee Club has just been rocked with its first scandal..."

Kristin Chenoweth on Glee and... The Dog Whisperer?

Kristin Chenoweth GleeFor someone who is, as she recently pointed out, unemployed, Kristin Chenoweth is popping up in some pleasant places on TV. She won an Emmy for best supporting actress in a comedy for her work on the now-canceled Pushing Daisies, for which she seemed genuinely surprised in her acceptance speech. That's also when she made her plea to The Office and Mad Men and a couple of her other favorite shows, mentioning he current work status.

Tonight, Chenoweth, a veteran Broadway performer, appears on Glee as Will's old friend and former classmate whom he brings in to help give his crew a bit more edge. Chenoweth had to cancel a conference call interview with the press last week for health reasons, but I got a hold of her by e-mail.

How's your voice? I'd heard you weren't feeling well.

Thanks for asking! I've been trying my hardest to rest my voice... but it's tough! I'm taking a couple days off before my singing dates kick in to get it strong again, but overall, I'm feeling better!

Didn't take long to find employment, how did you hook up with Glee?

I'd worked with Ryan Murphy before on Running with Scissors and new he was a genius. So when he called and said he'd written a park for me in Glee, I was ecstatic!

What's your character, April Rhodes, like?

April Rhodes is a woman who was kind of "the deal" in glee club in high school. She is a little past her prime, but she still has a voice and Matthew Morrison's character gets her to come back and try to finish. She was unlike any other role I've played, so it was really fun for me!

Kristin Chenoweth's Emmy night, the good and bad

kristin_chenoweth_emmys_2009The good news is the Kristen Chenoweth won an Emmy Sunday night. But the bad news is the she was so ill backstage she needed to be checked out by paramedics. Here's what happened.

Early during the Primetime Emmys, when Kristin's name was announced for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy, I don't know about you, but I let out a whoop! She won for Pushing Daisies, a show – as she pointed out in her tear-filled speech – was no longer on the air. At least one of the fine actors on that wonderful, fanciful show was recognized!

So now Simon and Randy miss Paula

PAula_Randy_SimonOh sure, now that she's not there anymore, they miss her. Sounds like a familiar story, but this is American Idol. Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell are missing Paula Abdul at the judge's table. They're in the midst of the audition process, using guest judges like Neil Patrick Harris and Kristin Chenoweth, and Randy confessed that he's looked over for Paula during the process and wondered, "Where's my P?"

Simon, who seems to have a lexicon all his own, said that he misses Paula, too. But in his bizarre way with words, he compared the new Idol atmosphere as different, like "comparing a carrot to a banana."

Kristin Chenoweth on board as American Idol guest judge

pushing_daisies_kristin_chenoweth
Could the departure of Paula Abdul from American Idol actually result in a revitalization and renewal of the Fox monster hit? I ask that question because in the past couple of days, guest judges have been announced to sit in Paula's place and I'm absolutely psyched by the choices. The other day it was How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris. Today, Pushing Daisies' Kristin Chenoweth has been snagged as an American Idol guest judge. She's currently filming auditions in Orlando, Florida.

Christmas with Kristin Chenoweth

Kristin Chenoweth in sunI know it's only May and hardly the time to start thinking of egg nog and holly and Ebenezer Scrooge or any of the other Christmas standbys, but forgive me if I let out a whoop of happiness about the news that Kristin Chenoweth will star in The Twelve Men of Christmas TV movie. The romantic comedy is slated to be part of the Fa La La La La Lifetime lineup (try saying that three times fast!), and while another holiday film doesn't usually make me gleeful, this one does.

Kristin Chenoweth is a gem. I'm still bereft that we'll probably never see her Olive Snook again because Pushing Daisies is gone unless there's a movie, and I was tiffed that the David E. Kelly NBC pilot Legally Mad was not picked up only because La Chenoweth was in it.

NBC would rather pay a huge penalty than air Legally Mad

Kristin ChenowethIf there's a seven-figure penalty clause attached to your pilot if the network doesn't pick it up for series, how much does it have to suck ass if the net says, "Yeah, we'll pay the penalty rather than put that piece of crap on the air." That's what Warner Bros. is hearing as NBC has passed on Legally Mad.

This is David E. Kelley's much ballyhooed next legal drama starring Kristin Chenoweth and Loretta Devine. See that's good talent right there and still they'd rather pay millions than put it on the air? Damn!

Sit Down, Shut Up: Miracle's Are Real

sit down shut up

(S01E02)
Last week, when I rewatched Sit Down, Shut Up for my review, I said that while I still wasn't enthralled by it, the show was much better upon the second viewing. Since I thought episode 2 was much better than the pilot, I expected to like it even more upon rewatching. Oddly enough, I didn't.

As stellar as this cast is, I'm trying to separate my feelings about this show from my feelings about them. I love Kristin Chenoweth on Pushing Daisies, so I don't really want to admit that her work on this show reminds me of a more grating Amy Sedaris with none of the humor, but it kind of does. I don't know if it's the way her character is written, or the fact that Chenoweth's particular brand of pixie cuteness doesn't translate unless you're looking at her, but she just sounds shrill to me.

TV Squad Ten: Girl Crushes

brenda lee johnson the closerThere's a reason why when you watch The Mentalist, there are always subtle close ups of Simon Baker's eyes or of his mouth when he's talking. The producers know he's hot and they know women are watching. Between him, the cast of Friday Night Lights, and a whole other list of DILF's, there's a lot of male eye-candy on TV right now. But what about the women? Of course television is filled with hot chicks, but who do other women like to watch?

There are certain female characters who, when you watch them, you just want to hang out with. Either you think she'd be a good friend, or exciting to have around, or maybe you just kind of want to be her. This, my friends, is a Girl Crush. Here is my list of Top Ten TV Girl Crushes.

Fox gives Glee a top-flight launching pad

foxIf you had to guess, what's the most coveted, prime TV real estate currently available? In February, it was the post-Super Bowl slot, but now -- what could it be. How about the hour after the American Idol finale on May 19 on FOX. With that in mind, FOX has decided to give one of its most promising, albeit unusual, new products the hour.

Ryan Murphy's musical comedy series Glee is getting the post American Idol finale hour. And yes, it is a musical comedy TV series. After American Idol crowns its new winner on May 19, all those millions of viewers, the ones who stay on the network, will see a special preview of the show about a struggling high school glee club.

Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies, and Dirty Sexy Money coming back this summer

Pushing Daisies

I should point out that when I say "coming back this summer" in the headline I mean that ABC is bringing them back to burn off the remaining episodes that haven't aired yet. That's right, six months from now is the earliest you'll see any of these shows return. They could even come back later.

Pushing Daisies has three episodes left, while Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money each have four. Fans of these shows might not like this, but the truth is, the shows that have been in the time slots for these shows have actually done better in the ratings.

Could Pushing Daisies wind up as a movie?

PDaisiesI don't know about you, but when creator Bryan Fuller talked about concluding all the story threads from Pushing Daisies as a comic book, I was less than enthused. Now, however, I've got renewed hope.

No, ABC is not even mentioning bringing Daisies back. They're not even committing to broadcasting the last few episodes. But Kristin Chenoweth thinks Pushing Daisies might be a movie. That's right, the show could/would/should be wrapped up as a movie in her estimation.
