KingOfQueens-related stories

The King of Queens is not returning to CBS. However, Kevin James is. He's
performing in a series of interstitials on Monday night in an effort to promote his soon-to-be-released movie
Paul Blart: Mall Cop.
Will this launch James to movie stardom? I don't know. He's following the title formula of such movies as
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and
Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigalo, so we can probably guess the format and formula of the film.
Not every comedy TV star can make the transition to movies, and I don't know if Kevin James has the personality to hold a film on his own. It worked for Jim Carrey because of his wild, character-driven personality and it worked for Rob Schneider because...actually, I don't think it worked for Rob Schneider. If it did, I have no idea why.
It's interesting to note that
Paul Blart is produced by Sony Pictures and
The King of Queens was produced by Sony Pictures TV. Sony Pictures must own Kevin James' soul.

If you have a leisure suit in your closet and think it'll never be in style again, you may be wrong. Everything has a way of coming back around, even game shows. With that in mind,
Queen for a Day, a game show that ran in daytime for 20 years, is being resurrected for today. RDF USA has obtained format rights and plan to present their resurrected, revamped edition to cable and broadcast nets this week.
Queen for a Day was originally a radio show, but appeared on TV in 1947 and ran on and off until 1970. It was sort of the
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition of its day, albeit on a much more modest level. Female contestants would appear to tell her story of woe and misfortune in order to be eligible to become queen for a day, wherein she would win prizes, be feted with a crown and robe, offered roses and other gifts. "Make every woman a queen, for every single day," was the host, Jack Bailey's closing line each day. If it sounds hokey, it was. Comedy shows regularly satirized it.

I've been inundated with letters lately but this one from "Kathy" seemed very urgent.
She asks..."Can you tell me the name of the bar from King of Queens?"
Well, Kathy, the short answer is yes, yes I can.
The long answer, however is only slightly longer. At the risk of name-dropping, I decided that the fastest way to get the answer to this question would be to call my friend Patton Oswalt. I always like to point out that even though Patton has become a full fledged movie star (Ratatouille, Balls of Fury) he is never too busy to be a very cool guy. His true talent, however, is telling jokes and if you ever get a chance to see him live, take it.

Here are AOL Television's top picks of the week.
The King of Queens (Mon., 9PM ET, CBS) series finaleAnother "fat husband, hot wife" sitcom bites the dust. What, does that only leave
According to Jim? Guess the genre wore itself out.
The King of Queens was probably the best of the lot, thanks to a genuinely funny cast. In the finale, Doug (
Kevin James) wants a divorce after nine years, but Carrie (
Leah Remini) thinks they can still save their marriage by adopting a child. Meanwhile, dad Arthur's wedding to Ava doesn't go as planned.
Gilmore Girls (Tue., 8PM ET, The CW) series finaleTwo best friends who happen to be mother and daughter: that was the premise of this show when it first premiered and it still holds true seven years later. I'm sad to see the
Gilmores go, but ending with Rory's graduation from Yale seems only fitting. Our
Girls have truly grown up. The finale sees Rory getting an intriguing job offer -- and meeting hero Christiane Amanpour. Luke goes into overdrive to organize a celebration, which provokes Lorelai to do something unexpected.

Sure,
Trimspa and
KFC may think they've got the answer to TiVo-proof advertising. But no matter how much information they cram on each frame of the commercial so that it'll be visible during fast-forward, there's no way to defeat the 30-second skip (or bathroom break, for that matter).
So advertisers are turning in droves to product placement. According to Nielsen, Coca-Cola paid for 3,355 occurrences of television product placements last year. And they weren't alone.
Blogging Stocks has top 10 lists of advertisers and the shows they placed products on.
I probably shouldn't be too shocked that
American Idol topped the second list with 4,085 placements in 2006. In fact, almost all of the shows on the list were reality TV, which I find somewhat reassuring. I'm not sure what's up with
King of Queens though. The show was number 6 with 1,954 product placements.

If you've been wanting to add more viewings of hefty guys inexplicably married to hot chicks to your television diet, this is your chance. On Sunday, October 8, you can also catch a six-hour marathon of the series starting at 6 pm. The first four episodes of the marathon will feature characters from Everybody Loves Raymond, played by Ray Romano, Doris Roberts and Patricia Heaton. Click here for a schedule of the marathon.

Stand-up comic Patton Oswalt (
The King of Queens,
Comedians of Comedy,
Reno 911) has one of the better celebrity blogs I've found. Maybe that's because he mostly talks about comic books and bad road food, and has yet to format anything to look like poetry. His blog's pretty funny, the fact that he calls it his "spew" not withstanding.
Right now
he's begging his readers to tune into HBO Sunday night and watch
The Wire season 4. Like others have, Patton calls
The Wire the "best show ever on television." Here's the money quote : "
The Wire is one of the few times you'll watch TV and not feel like the people making TV think you're a fucking idiot."

It's that time
of year again, folks! Yep, some of your favorite shows are on the cancellation bubble and you can vote on which
ones you'd like to see next fall and ones that should go far, far away. It's an annual tradition that sometimes
predicts what shows will be renewed and which shows won't. So far you want your Scrubs.
In fact,
according to the ninth annual USA Today 'Save Our Shows'
survey (say that five times fast) a whopping 61 percent of you would like to see the NBC comedy renewed for a
sixth season. Only fourteen percent of you want to see the show die a quick death. Scrubs is a good
bet to be renewed for the fall, as long as the network is willing to pony up the increased dough to the show's
production company, Touchstone Television. If NBC doesn't renew the program there is an equally good chance that
Touchstone's sibling ABC (both are owned by Disney) would pick up the show.
Six more shows on the USA
Today survey have more supporters than detractors: Veronica Mars (UPN), Commander in Chief
(ABC), Everwood (WB), Invasion (ABC), Reba (WB) and The King of Queens (CBS).
After ABC shelved Commander
in Chief this week, there is a good chance that it will not be renewed; Kevin James, the star of The
King of Queens, wants a bigger paycheck for the new season; and Veronica Mars and Reba
are vying for spots on the new CW network, which will be a combination of the WB and UPN.
What
shows have the least amount of supporters? FOX's one-camera comedies The Loop and Free Ride and UPN's
Half and Half and One on One.

Not to mention the return of Arrested Development, Two and a Half Men, The King of Queens, 7th Heaven, Las Vegas, Medium, and CSI: Miami. Whoa. That's quite a night of shows, so make sure you TiVo, VCR, and/or court transcriptionists are all set.
We'll have reviews of many of the above later tonight, so don't forget to check back.
So...what are you watching tonight?
