I thought that, as I got older, I'd mellow out when it came to illogical commercials, but that hasn't happened. I see something in an ad and it irritates the hell out of me every time I see it (and when you watch TV for a living you see the same commercials 20 times a day). So guess why the new KFC "Unthink" commercial irritates me so much. It has nothing to do with the quality of the meal or the price or the arrogance of the two guys eating the chicken.
Hint: think about what you have for lunch every day. Answer later today!
It was a nice idea. Oprah does a promotion for Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) involving their new grilled chicken offering. She mentions on her talk show that the chain is offering a free grilled chicken meal if you hand in a downloadable coupon available at Oprah.com. Sadly, it didn't turn out so well for the franchise.
Oprah's insane popularity caused about a bazillion people to download the free meal coupon. So many, in fact, that KFC wasn't ready to give out so much free grilled chicken and has now offered rainchecks for the existing coupons.
First Facebook, then Twitter, now chicken. It's one of Oprah's favorite things!
Oprah is giving away a coupon to KFC. It's valid until May 19 (though you only have until the end of today to print it out*). You get a free 2 Piece Meal, which includes their new grilled chicken, two sides and a biscuit. What, nothing to wash it down with? Thanks a lot!
I don't really get this, but maybe it's because I'm old.
KFC has a commercial that features a high pitched sound (called a "Mosquito Tone") that only younger people can hear. This has been a growing trend as I heard a news story about stores that use the sound to keep kids away from hanging out in their stores that had a sound that only younger people can hear. The problem is, the high pitched sound is CLEAR AND LOUD, whether you're 8 or 80. Am I missing something?
Anyway, you can judge for yourself after the jump. I don't know if there's another sound in the clip that we older people don't hear, but I do suddenly have an incredible urge for a Boneless Variety Bucket.
I've been searching my brain Rolodex trying
to remember where I knew this name from, and then it hit me: he played Colonal Sanders in Kentucky Fried Chicken TV
commercials in the mid-90s!
Of course, he was known for much more than that. He played Dr. Dan Stewart on
As The World Turns for 31 years (1960 to the character's death in 1991), appeared in other TV shows such as
Law and Order and Dr. Kildare, and had a long career in the theater, appearing in such classics plays
as The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas, The Birthday Party, and Who's Afraid Of Virginia
Woolf?
