I don't know about you, but I was surprised -- floored! -- to see
Frankie Avalon on American Idol the other night. Granted, they always have to stretch to fill the one-hour results show, which could truly be done in five minutes, but how odd was it for Flo Rida, Kellie Pickler and Frankie Avalon to be on the same show?
And Frankie kicked off the show! The
Idol producers dug up a 1959 video of Frankie Avalon singing "Venus," which of course, lead to the real Frankie appearing on stage to finish the number. With the exception of the dream sequence in
Grease (1978) singing "Beauty School Dropout," has Frankie done anything relevant to warrant such major exposure?

Alright, results show: I haven't watched the episode yet; it just started and I have it on pause so I can make my predictions. I think the bottom three is going to be Anoop, Lil Rounds and Scott. Lil Rounds will go home. Anything else would officially shock me, but I love being shocked, so here's hoping.
We're still on the whole "year of their birth" thing, so Ryan makes a big deal about how old Simon is by showing a clip of Frankie Avalon singing in the year he was born. Then the stage opens, and Frankie Avalon himself comes out and sings. Simon looks completely surprised and amused. It's actually a really cute moment, and Frankie sounds great.
Enough of that, though; I want to find out who's going home! So let's get on with it. We've got 50 minutes of filler left before we get our answers.

Welcome back to
"AI Aftermath," where we explore
Idol's past. Each week, as one more
American Idol hopeful is eliminated from the competition, we take a look back at contestants past who were eliminated in the same week. We'll examine how they did on the show and what they've been up to since their eliminations. In honor of Carly Smithson's elimination last week we'll be looking at other sixth place finishers.
This week: 6th place finishers, featuring featuring Christina Christian (Season One), Carmen Rasmussen (Season Two), John Stevens (Season Three), Constantine Maroulis (Season Four), Kellie Pickler (Season Five) and Phil Stacey (Season Six).

(S07E23) Everyone had so much fun in the live chat during the Top 11 performance show that we're doing it again! We'll be hosting another live chat during the live 9pm ET broadcast tonight. And we may just do it for the rest of the season, too. Watch the results and sound off about the painful group number as it happens. Critique Kellie Pickler's return to the
Idol stage and vent about all the "filler" Ryan subjects us to before voting out ... well who do
you think it will be?
You can join the chat by following this link. Look for the full episode review right here later tonight.

She didn't win
American Idol Season 5, in fact she came in sixth place, but Kellie Pickler has still gone on to become one of the bigger success stories from the franchise. This week, the blonde bombshell who was made famous by her ditzy comments and naivete about ... well, everything, returns to the stage that made her a star.
Idol continues it's trend of inviting contestants past onto the results show each week to perform, self-promote and serve as inspiration for the current
Idol wannabes.
Rather than continue the tour of
Idol runner-ups begun with Blake Lewis and Katharine McPhee the past two weeks, the show is sticking with Season 5 and going with Kellie Pickler. The move makes sense, as Pickler has had more commercial success than Season 4 runner-up Bo Bice. In fact, I think Season 5 has more success stories in the music biz than any other season, so maybe they'll just stay here for a bit and check in with Elliott Yamin, Bucky Covington and Chris Daughtry while they're at it.

Kellie Pickler gained infamy for her dim-witted charm on Season 5 of
American Idol, and has since gone on to some success in the country music field. She had a memorable return to the show that launched her career last year, facing off against Ryan Seacrest who wondered if she'd picked up a new pair of ... oh, anything with the money she'd made since leaving the show.
Now,
she's offering sage advice through
People magazine, to this year's crop of
Idol-wannabes. I'm sorry, but there's plenty of people I'd gladly take advice from, but "Pick Pickler" is hardly one of them. I still can't decide if the bumpkin idiocy is a farce, in which case she's brilliant, or real. If it's real then ... wow!

What exactly is 'Chris Daughtry-itis?' Does it involve a fever and a rash? Does it cause baldness? And most importantly, is it curable?
Simon Cowell complained in this week's Entertainment Weekly that the current batch of finalists just don't want to win badly enough. And this laid-back attitude is effecting their "A Game," or creating a lack thereof.
Simon said, "I think that we suffer from Jennifer Hudson- and Chris Daughtry-itis, which is people who didn't win getting great careers and now a lot of the contestants believing it absolutely doesn't matter."

(S06E16) Ryan sums up the last two nights by saying "The girls ripped it up and the boys threw it down," and tells us that once again they received almost 32 million total votes.
Let's just skip all the other stuff and get to it. AJ TABALDO is going home! I'm shocked. I really didn't see that coming. I would place AJ above Phil, Brandon, Jared, and definitely Sanjaya. He gave a good performance Tuesday night and received praise from all of the judges. He has a great personality to match a great voice. Yet, AJ's journey ends tonight...and Sanjaya (adorable, yet flawed) lives to sing another song.
Oh yeah, ALAINA, NICK, and LESLIE are also going home, but I'm not surprised at all. I pretty much expected that. Did I mention that I'm still in shock over AJ getting the boot?

Howard Cohen of
MiamiHerald.com seems to think so. In today's post he points out that several
AI finalists didn't take top prize, but the show still helped catapult them to success. Jennifer Hudson's Golden Globe win last night certainly puts her on the top of the list for "Most Successful Ex-
American Idol Losers," well, at least for the time being.

American Idol champ Fantasia Barrino is
bringing out the big guns for her second album. The R&B vocalist's second outing will drop on December 12th, and this time she's bringing Missy Elliott, Outkast's Big Boi, Babyface and Swiss Beatz with her. The only big name producers she hasn't snagged are Timbaland, Kanye and The Neptunes, but give Miss Thing time.
Fantasia seems to be pulling a Mary J. Blige on her second release - beefing up the hip-hop element and telling fans, "I've let go of things from the past and I'm having a good time. Now I'm on a whole different level." No more drama for Ms. Barrino, and man, did she know from drama. The High Point, NC native is a single mother who struggled with literacy problems and had her rags to riches stories made into a
Lifetime original movie directed by Debbie "Fame" Allen.

If you haven't gotten your fill of contestants from American Idol, then open wide for a heapin' helpin' of Southern-fried goodness: finalist Kellie Pickler is set to star in a new FOX comedy about a girl from a small town in the South who discovers that the governor is actually her father. The character is based on Pickler herself, so I assume it will be an easy role for her to play. NBC has ordered a script for the new series, which is being written by Chris Peterson and Bryan Moore, who wrote three episodes of That '70s Show between them.
The series is being developed by American Idol's production company 19 Entertainment, proving once again that Idols don't just happen, they're strategically crafted and forced into our homes until we have no choice but to either give in or throw our TVs out the window.

Gossip Janet Charleton - who broke the news of Kathy Griffin's divorce from husband Matt - is saying that The View has already chosen a replacement for Star Jones regardless of the on air auditions (including Kellie Pickler!) they're currently doing.
Charleton says she was told by a network leak (I had one of those once - it was very painful) that the new host was chosen months ago. Her name is Bo Griffin, the so-called "Oprah of Radio." What does that mean? Does it mean she's black? Is sometimes fat, sometimes thin? Gives away cars to listeners? She's also been a host on Good Day Live and appeared on other TV and radio shows.
No official word from ABC yet.

Oh man, I've been patiently twiddling my thumbs for the last 3 hours until the finale aired on the West Coast, so I could finally post this. Taylor Hicks is our new American Idol, and I couldn't be happier. Well, I could be (sigh...Chris). But if I can't have Chris, then I'm happy with the Silver Fox. (I hate that nickname by the way. It makes me feel like I've got a crush on an old man. What's the opposite of being a pedophile? Is there a word for that? 'Cause I might have it.) They really took it down to the last minute too. I was biting my nails at 1 hour and 59 minutes, worried that my TiVo was about to pop up with the dreaded "Erase Now? or Save?" quandary. I felt like I was Mr. Eko on Lost, watching that damn clock. But right at the final seconds, Ryan said Taylor's name. Yes! The crazy windmill-dancing bastard pulled it off! I understand why Taylor's dad was crying, but why was David Hasselhoff?

Ah, man. I thought I'd be
really glad to see Kellie go, but she's so sweet and innocent that I felt really bad for her when she got voted off.
But, America doesn't need any more dumb blonde singers (although, Britney doesn't seem to be doing much lately, so
maybe there is an opening). Hopefully Kellie gets some professional help with her voice, because she was the amateur of
amateurs in this bunch of six.
When Ryan split the final six into three groups of two, we learned that Chris
and Katherine received the most votes this week. I wouldn't be surprised if those two battled it out in the final two.
I think they're evenly matched-- with personality and vocal ability. Next week, Taylor, Elliott, and Paris are all in
extreme danger of being sent home.
On a side note, wasn't Andrea Bocelli spectacular? The man's voice is
like butter.

Did anybody else think Ryan Seacrest's
high-collared shirt looked like he just returned from a shift as a Candy Striper at the hospital? He just threw on a
jacket and tie and showed up to host
American Idol. By the way, did you think there was
tension between Seacrest
and Paula? Yeah, I didn't see it either.
When I saw that Andrea Bocelli and his producer, David Foster, were
going to be on the show, I thought that seemed like an odd match. It turns out, it was. Very odd. Bocelli didn't really
seem to help the contestants much and his producer only butchered their songs. The complicated arrangements did weed
out the professional singers from the weak ones (ahem, Kellie Pickler).
