This season's
Grey's Anatomy ended on quite a tense note, with both George and Izzie's lives hanging in the balance. Izzie, of course, had been battling cancer for most of the season, while George was hit and then dragged down the street by a bus after pushing a young woman out of the way. The episode ended with both characters flat-lining, leaving fans to agonize for months over who survives. Now, however, it looks as though we may have an answer.
Both of the actors in question,
Katherine Heigl and
T.R. Knight, have made no secret of their displeasure with the show and their respective storylines as of late. Heigl pulled her name out of Emmy consideration last year, while Knight reportedly asked to be let out of his contract this past December. The behind-the-scenes grumbling has led to a great deal of speculation about who may live and who may die, but now
E! Online's Marc Malkin is reporting that he knows the fate of at least one of those two characters.

I appreciate a show that takes the time to have decently written dialogue, well timed music cues, and good use of set. A show like
Grey's Anatomy needs a 100th episode celebration every week. When a show actually uses characters correctly, it can succeed.
I appreciate that this episode had characters that normally don't interact interacting. Seeing Mark/Meredith, Derek/Izzie, Lexie/George all interacting made me realize that the hospital is smaller than one thinks. You work with these people, you think you'd talk to them once in a while.
Clearly, the wedding was going to take a left turn. I was happy to see that the stress of work didn't affect anyone and they were all happily attending the wedding. So does every wedding end with sex after attending?

Earlier this week, I let you know of
the ten shows I thought should be renewed. Now it's time to reverse the question and think about the shows that shouldn't be renewed. Yes, there are some shows that should end now, either because they have annoying characters (*cough* Meredith Grey *cough*), are not treated properly by their network (insert here pretty much all shows on FOX), have been on TV for too long and have a hard time being original (I'm talking about you
Survivor), etc.
ER would have been a prime candidate for this list, but NBC finally made the right decision and ended the show a few weeks ago. Note that my list includes some shows that have received early renewals. Still, I think they should be canceled asap. So what other shows, besides
ER, I think should bite the dust? Let's find out!

The 99th episode of
Grey's Anatomy has come and past and the last five minutes got to me. There's something gratifying about having all the storylines set to music and every other character in tears. It's definitely setting up for the big 100.
I was a little tense about the storyline of the little girl shooter, but it was written in taste. The girl was creepy since she reminded me of every stereotypical horror movie child, silently staring at the lead characters. Why is Meredith often paired up with killers? I get it, the little girl is supposed to parallel Meredith's relationship with her father or the chief, but she could have just been an ignored daughter and not a shooter whose mother probably handed her the gun.

(S05E20) "Someone will be singing 'Wind Beneath My Freaking Wings'" - MeredithWhy does ABC have to mention that
Grey's Anatomy has some of the best storylines on television? If that is true, that must mean that
Private Practice has the worst. The episode was good, but the long wait got me jaded.
The show does better when Meredith isn't the center of the show. Even with her as the narrator, she succeeded only as a model for Izzie and a mediator between Derek and Mark. Speaking of which, Lexie was hysterical the whole episode. I thought it was so obscene that she kept eating something different in every shot that she was in. Sure they mentioned that she broke out, but couldn't the makeup team add a lump or two? I didn't see one thing wrong with her face.

(S05E19) After the commercials continued to mention how wonderful
Grey's Anatomy was going to be, I was brainwashed. This episode had to be good. For me, it delivered. In the first five minutes, we were given Owen's PTSD situation and it set the tone for the rest of the episode. Then we get the wonderful voiceovers from Alex, a good change from Meredith.
There were definitely serious tear inducing moments, along with two really funny situations. We also had a believable patient. When does this hospital get normal patients? Probably when they went down a few ranks. More thoughts and analysis after the jump.

(S05E18) "I'm a fan of daytime television" – BaileyTonight was the big night for the whole Izzie storyline getting into full gear. On a positive note, this episode happily shows that all of the characters can actually interact with others without it leading into a bad fallout or sex. Unlike last week, all the characters were themselves. Also, only having two surgeries to focus on was much better than splitting everyone up. Otherwise, it gets confusing.
Does it always turn out that the first year interns are overly dramatic? The side story between Megan/Pierce/Steve was funny because it sounds just like something Meredith/George/Alex/Izzie would have gone through. More analysis after the jump.

As a TV blogger, I've got to say this whole drama is exasperating. I'm a little tired of writing about Heigl, Knight and Shonda. I was even on the fence about choosing the "Reality-Free" category for this post, since the backstage hijinks of
Grey's Anatomy could give any reality show a run for their money.
On Wednesday, I reported that James Pickens let slip
that Heigl and Knight were leaving Grey's Anatomy. Yeah, that's not true, according to Shonda Rhimes. Rhimes says that rumors spread as fact and that Pickens' words were taken out of context.
Heigl and Knight are not leaving Grey's Anatomy, and that's a fact, again, according to Rhimes. Do I smell a cover (your ass) up, Shonda?
The original rumor stated that it wasn't a done deal because they were trying to negotiate story arcs for the characters for next season. That's a pretty detailed fact to be "just a rumor," if you ask me.
It will be very interesting to see what actually does take place when all is said and done. I'm exhausted, and I'm really starting to wonder if I'll ever care as much about Izzie and George in proportion to the amount of will-they-won't-they that has gone on.

You know, sometimes I think
Grey's Anatomy isn't so much about the drama on screen, since the behind-the-scenes drama always seems to trump the fictional stuff. Is the Meredith / Derek love-fest as interesting as the Heigl / Knight quit-fest? It seems that the entire cast of
Grey's is suffering from a medical condition: a giant, gaping hole in the center of their face that just doesn't quit gabbing.
Just when the whole
Isaiah Washington big-mouth scandal and subsequent firing finally blows over, we begin hearing rumors that T.R. Knight is going to be let go. Then we are assured that isn't the case, only to hear that Knight is very vocal in begging to be let go.
Katherine Heigl couldn't let Knight get all the limelight, though; it started with her obnoxious behavior when she
pulled her name for consideration of an Emmy nomination, blaming the writers for her crappy storylines. Then it morphed to her sleeping-with-the-dead-guy storyline (she asked for it!) which only made us think more about Izzie leaving the show with a fatal condition. We know you think you're better than TV, Katherine, now shut up about it.

(S05E13) "We're doctors, Grey. We're not executioners." - BaileyLife wasn't easy for some of the Seattle Grace staff this week on
Grey's Anatomy as they had to decide if they were doctors or executioners. For some, the choice was clear (Shepard is a doctor) while for others (Meredith and Bailey) they wondered if they should be executioners at least this one time. No matter what side they were on, one thing is sure: the Seattle Grace doctors offered us one hell (or heaven?) of an episode this week!

Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello is also know for his blind items. The gossip columnist has been toying with readers with his "you'll never guess who" type of gossip posts since his
TV Guide days. This week, Ausiello announced to the world that
one major TV star was about to get booted from his or her show and didn't know about it yet. Since this is one of Ausiello's blind items, he doesn't reveal just who may exit a popular TV series. However, he does leave clues for us to try and find out who he's talking about.
Why not join me in trying to find out which TV star is about to get axed and doesn't know it yet? The picture on the right gives you an idea of who I hope will get axed. However, she is not who I think Ausiello is really referring to...

The always lively ABC show-runner panel just ended. Included on the panel were Shonda Rhimes, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, Marc Cherry, Greg Berlanti and Silvio Horta. Lindelof made some jokes, and Cherry tried to translate sports metaphors to musical theater metaphors. But we knew one question would come up a few times: How Rhimes reacted to Katherine Heigl's remark about removing herself from Emmy consideration for her work on
Grey's Anatomy this season.
What I didn't know was that the most interesting answers would come from my questions.

Jimmy Kimmel left the room, ABC Entertainment Steve McPherson got on with the business of facing the press at his executive session. I kicked it off with a question about
Scrubs, following up on
what Bill Lawrence told me in May about a possible "next generation" ninth season.
"We do think there's an opportunity after (this eighth season)," said McPherson. "If any or all the cast is a part of that, I think there's a growth (opportunity) there. It's a show that, despite being moved around into like 17 time periods and really never being given the marketing support, has really performed unbelievably well on NBC." He went on to say that they hope "it won't be a one-season situation."
Other than that, most of the conversation revolved around the network's returning shows, which makes sense, since the network is only debuting a few new shows (none of which had pilots that the network thought were suitable for preview) this fall.

Heigl bowed out of the Emmy race because she was not happy with the storylines given to her character last season. Fans and the press speculated that this also meant she wanted out of the ABC show. However,
