(S03E16) Well, it's that time of the year again. Damned season finales everywhere you look. On the one hand, it's good, because a season finale usually means that you are going to get the good. On the other hand, it also means that we are now going to have to tuck our favorite characters away for the summer and occupy our time with something else, like books, or old beat up trucks. The goods were definitely in play for the Supernatural finale. For the last year we've all been wondering what would happen when time ran out on Dean's deal, and we finally found out.

Supernatural: Time Is On My Side

(S03E15) The penultimate episode of season three went a long ways toward answering many of our questions. The season long question of whether or not Dean can get out of his deal remains up in the air, but we now know what has to be done to save him. All of those little bits were enough to sell this episode, but just for kicks and giggles, the fine folks over at Supernatural tossed in some answers about the controversial Bela. And even that wasn't enough. The monster of the week managed to tie both of those stories together, and give a shout out to John. There was a lot going on, and we'll get to it all, after the jump.

Supernatural: Long-Distance Call

(S03E14) Last week the Supernatural team went off the reservation and delivered an episode that seemed to split the fan base. As evidenced in the comments here, and at other Supernatural haunts around the web, there were a number of fans that just weren't sold on the Ghostfacers. I suspect that this week was a welcome turnaround for those folks. With "Long-Distance Call" we had a classic episode.

Supernatural: Ghostfacers

(S03E13) Good grief, has it really been two months? Finally, after eight weeks with no new episodes, the Winchesters return to reclaim their Thursday home. Just to get everyone back up to speed: Here's how it is. Earth got used up. We moved out... wait. That's a completely different show. When last we left Sam and Dean, they had just spent the night fighting off a gaggle of demons, and we got our first look at the new big bad in town, Lilith. You might have been expecting to pick things up there with the new episode. No such luck. Lilith was nowhere to be found, but that isn't a bad thing. Despite the main story being placed on the back burner, the episode was a home run.

Supernatural: Fresh Blood

(S03E07) Well now, guess who's back? This was an episode that many Supernatural fans had been waiting a good ten months for. Technically, Gordon Walker returned a few weeks ago in "Bad Day At Black Rock". But that was just a little taste, a hint at what was to come. This was the payoff, and it was well worth the wait. On the off chance that Gordon's obsessed return wasn't enough, they also brought along Buffy vet Mercedes McNab, and the boys made a little more progress in their ongoing, car based, relationship therapy.

Supernatural: Red Sky at Morning

(S03E06) "How do you sleep at night?"
"On silk sheets, rolling naked in money."
Week six picks up right where we left off, with Sam having dispatched the crossroads demon in his attempt to get Dean out of the deal, and Dean figuring the whole thing out. It also marked the return of the feisty new hunter/artifact dealer Bela. Together the three of them set out on another adventure that once again got the balance of the mystery, the creepy, and the comedy just right.

Supernatural: Bedtime Stories

(S03E05) The Supernatural team had me confused for a bit this week. The show kicked off with some pretty important flashes in the opening. A brief history of the Colt, Ruby helping Bobby repair it, and the yellow-eyed demon once again posing the question about the Sam that came back from the dead. Certainly an opening that suggests there are some big fish to fry with episode five. But then, over the next fifty minutes or so, we got none of that. Instead, it was a stand alone episode, albeit a very entertaining one. Luckily, just as I was starting to think someone had pulled a fast one in the editing bay, they made good with that opening at the end of the show.

Supernatural: Sin City

(S03E04) This week, Kripke and his pals brought us more of the same. Considering how season three is going, that is a very good thing. Once again we were treated to an interesting story that balanced very nicely with hints and reveals about the bigger picture season three plot. A little more Ruby, some welcome artillery, more questions about just who Sam is now, and the first cracks in Dean's manly outer shell.

Supernatural: The Kids Are Alright

(S03E02) There aren't a lot of things that freak me out more than evil children. Maybe clowns, and bugs give me the wiggins, but when done right, a gaggle of evil rugrats is just creepy as hell. And I thought the Supernatural team got it just right here. That story alone made the episode worth watching, but we also got so much more. Does Dean have a kid? Just who is the mysterious Ruby? Have we put that whole Sam is special thing behind us? Will that little scene from last season where it seemed that Mary knew the demon come back into play? The answers, and my review, after the jump.

Supernatural: The Magnificent Seven (season premiere)

(S03E01) Guess who just got back today? Them wild-eyed boys that had been away. Haven't changed... Well, wait a minute. Yes they have, and those changes are a big part of what makes season three of Supernatural so interesting. I think it's very smart what Kripke and his team have done.
The yellow-eyed demon had all the makings of your typical carrot and stick never ending serial plot device. They probably could have gone on for another few seasons with Sam and Dean never quite getting the job done. But in dispatching him, they managed to do a couple of things. First, they paid off a major plot line for viewers that had invested two years in the story. And more importantly, as we move into the third season, they did so in a way that opens up a plethora of new avenues for our story to travel. That is where we find ourselves as we delve into the third season.

Supernatural: All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 2 (season finale)

(S02E22) "Something big is going down. End of the world big."
The big season finale picked up right where we left off. Sam really is dead. As we found out later in the episode, Jake (Aldis Hodge) cut right through his spinal cord. It made for a nice scene for Jensen Ackles. We've seen time and again how focused Dean is on protecting Sam. So, in a move that surprised nobody, Dean went down to the crossroads, fell down on his knees...

Supernatural: All Hell Breaks Loose, Part 1
(S02E21) Wow. Now, THAT is how you kick off your two part season finale. The other day I wrote about part one of the NCIS season finale. One of the problems with that one was that a large chunk of the episode was spent on just another random case. It wasn't bad, but it lacked the weight and importance that a good finale should have. Kripke and team Supernatural do not have that problem. As Bobby said in the opening, "A storm is comin' and you boys, you are smack in the middle of it." It's been a long wait getting to that storm, but here it is, and it looks like it is going to be a heck of a ride. Some old friends are back, along with an old enemy. There are answers to some lingering questions, and twists and turn aplenty.

Supernatural: What Is And What Should Never Be

(S02E20) It's been a strange week of coincidences on television. Bones and CSI both did alien episodes while Heroes and Supernatural both featured what if stories. Having now watched all four of those, "What Is And What Should Never Be" was my favorite of the bunch. Credit the lions share of that accomplishment to the ever improving Jensen Ackles.

Supernatural: Folsom Prison Blues

(S02E19) I think that if I was going to choose one line to describe this episode it would be Dean's boast to Sam, "I am freakin' velvety smooth." Because, he was tonight, and more importantly for the viewers, the Supernatural team is just as velvety smooth as their wise-cracking hero. This was a very well done installment that hit all of its marks.

Supernatural: Hollywood Babylon

(S02E18) They don't do much in the way of developing the big mysteries, but I do like it when the Supernatural team takes time out to have some fun. Such was the case this week with "Hollywood Babylon." If it was the overall style of the show, I don't think it would work nearly as well. But as an every once in a while thing, these tongue-in-cheek, laugh at yourself, episodes are a fun diversion from the norm. Although, I would have preferred to see this one and "Tall Tales" separated a little more on the schedule.
