Go Daddy: "Marketing"
Go Daddy has probably used the Superbowl commercials to their advantage as much as, or more than, anybody. Because of their history, their commercials are some of the most anticipated. Here we get a peek behind the scenes at the marketing department.
It's not a bad ad, but nothing special. Even seeing it for the first time it seems like something we have seen before. The idea that the marketing department at Go Daddy is just one big party is amusing, but simple. I take off a couple points for including the American Chopper guys. I've just seen too much of them at this point. Those points and then some are gained back by the appearance of Danica Patrick though. I do love my racing. The return of Candice Michelle is nice. Seeing Kevin Rose in the commercial was a bit odd, but given their business, it makes sense.
GoDaddy's road to the SuperBowl
GoDaddy is notorious, and infamous for their ads that some call "racy", some call "disgusting", but most call "funny" or "sexy." Either way they have had trouble getting their ads approved for inclusion in the Super Bowl. Finally, their last ad has been approved.I really didn't think the ad I saw was so bad (the two guys in the office), but the Super Bowl is a family show after all. There aren't any visual elements that are too much for families, but the dialog is what was a turn-off to CBS. The first ad was obviously a spoof of Basic Instinct, which got rejected quickly. The third ad got approved, which is much better than the 13 ad submissions last year before getting one approved for the 2006 Super Bowl.
GoDaddy has a roadmap to the Super Bowl where you can watch the first two ads, and a press conference with a clip from the third and final approved ad that you can watch. What will they think of next? On second thought, I don't want to know.
GoDaddy builds hype for Super Bowl ad
After having its 2005 ad yanked in mid-Bowl by FCC-fearing Fox executives, internet domain registrar GoDaddy
is gleefully promoting (though not releasing) its 2006
ad. GoDaddy chief Bob Parsons is warning anyone who's interested that the commercial might not be approved by ABC
censors. Considering how delighted he was with the results of the 2005 controversy, I think we can count on the 2006
version being scandalicious. Previous GoDaddy TV and extended Web ads, including the 2005 cuts, can be viewed here.
