It'll be one more time around for a Wonder Years alumna and a Felicity fave. Fred Savage and Amy Smart have both been cast in CBS pilots. For Fred, who for me may have peaked as an actor as Kevin Arnold (although I did love him in Austin Powers in Goldmember playing Number Three -- the guy with the mole on his face), the new project on tap is Single White Millionaire. The sitcom is from the pen of writer Ricky Blitt, one of the Family Guy scribes, so that's a plus. The plot is described as the story of an unassuming, thirtysomething millionaire ready to settle down -- and obviously looking for the right lady to share his life (although I guess he could be looking for a significant other of either gender -- the project line leaves it open). Bad news for Wonder Years fans
If you've been waiting for them to release The Wonder Years on DVD (besides best of sets), you're going to have to wait a lot longer. The DVDs are at least a couple of years away.
And to rub a little salt in the wounds, when the show is released it won't contain any of the soundtrack that they used on the show! Yikes.
Not having the period music on The Wonder Years would be like cutting out the space scenes on Star Trek. It was as much a part of the show as the characters were, as the voice over narration by Daniel Stern. But getting the rights to music to use on TV shows is incredibly expensive, and if you have a show like The Wonder Years that used a ton of songs from the 60s and 70s, it's going to be so expensive they have to either release the DVDs without the music or not release the DVDs at all. It's the same thing holding up the WKRP DVDs.
What do you think? Would you rather see The Wonder Years released, even if it doesn't have the music, or would you rather not see the show on DVD if they're going to cut the music out? I lean toward the latter.

Winnie Cooper -- mystery solver
If you were a fan of The Wonder Years back in the late 1980's and early 1990's, you probably had a bit of a crush on Danica McKellar, who played Winnie Cooper, the on-again, off-again girlfriend of Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage). And, after the show ended in 1993, you probably thought that she would go on to bigger and better things. Instead, she dashed your hopes by dropping out of the entertainment business for a bit while she completed her degree in mathematics from UCLA. She came back recently in shows such as NCIS, How I Met Your Mother, and, in a recurring role, The West Wing. But, that still wasn't enough. You wanted more Danica.

Fred Savage is going to be a dad
Ah, I love happy news.Fred Savage, formerly of the short-lived show Crumbs and the classic The Wonder Years, is going to be a father. His wife, Jennifer Stone Savage, is pregnant and due in August.
Savage is 29 years old. This is the first child for the couple.
Fred Savage talks about his new show
Bob talked last month about Fred Savage's new show, Crumbs, which
debuts tomorrow night at 9:30EST on ABC. Bob didn't have a lot of info on the show at that time, but thanks to a
great interview with Savage over
on CNN, we now have more Fredtabulous scoop for you. Crumbs is a show about a dysfunctional family (I know,
shocking to have a dysfunctional family in a sitcom, but bear with me). Jane Curtin plays the mom, who just got
released from the mental hospital. Dad (William Devane) is expecting a baby with his girlfriend. One son is dead, one
(Eddie McClintock) stuck around to run the family restaurant, and the third (Savage) is a gay prodigal son returning
home from a failed Hollywood career.

Mid-season television preview
Now that 2005 is behind us, we can look forward to new and returning favorite shows all this month on television.
What will you be watching?South Beach (Wednesdays, UPN) Two hot, New York City working-class bachelors leave the big city behind to follow one of their girlfriends to South Beach, FL, only to discover that she has a new boyfriend. They get mixed up with the rich and famous in the club scene. After viewing a sneak preview on UPN's website, it looks like a guilty pleasure like The O.C., except with more sex and no high school. Jennifer Lopez is the executive producer and it co-stars Vanessa Williams as a club owner and mother to one of the main characters. South Beach premieres on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 8 pm.

Things I Hate About TV: Guest stars on cop shows
I am going to limit this rant to Law and Order since it is the primary offender when it comes to putting
guest stars on its many, many shows. It's as though the writers can't help but make every single celebrity guest star
the guilty person! Do they know it is a dead giveaway to the viewers? If I see Dean Cain, Fred Savage, or Dana Delany
as a seemingly minor character in the beginning of the show, I know they'll end up on trial or at least be the guilty
ones by the end of the episode. Last night, I was watching a rerun of Criminal Intent where Lee Tergesen from
Oz appeared as a minor character in the beginning. Guess who ended up being guilty of murder? Surprise,
surprise. I remember Julia Roberts being on the original Law and Order during season nine, does anyone
remember whether she was guilty?Continue reading Things I Hate About TV: Guest stars on cop shows
