Producers comment on Lost theories

LostSince Lost premiered about 4 years ago, fans have been active in coming up with theories (include the now-famous time loop theory) to explain the mysteries of the show. From the start, producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have debunked a few of the most popular theories (e.g., they are in purgatory) and hinted that others may be legit.

To help fans discuss theories and propose their own, USA Today's website devotes a section to fans' Lost theories. With these theories in hand, USA Today turned to Darlton (that's the common nickname for Damon and Carlton) to see if any could be accurate.

Lost: Nine ways to die on The Island

Lost
On the last episode of Lost, we learned that the Island won't let people die. Well, some people. Michael, for instance. And we can assume the Oceanic Six--Kate, Jack, Hurley, Sun, Sayid, Aaron--experienced the same inability to die as Michael.

But a lot of people have died. Some of them are missed and some of them... not so much. And there will be a lot more deaths over the final two seasons of the series, which returns with a new episode tonight. It seemed like a good time to look back on some of the island's most notorious deaths. And the strange manners in which characters died:

An extra gives tidbits on Lost

LostLost spoilers are serious business. I know what I'm talking about since I've been roaming the web and poking my sources for spoilers about the ABC series even before it premiered on September 22, 2004. Information about upcoming episodes was rather easy to find the first two years of the hit series. But as Lost got more popular and the mysteries more and more important and... mysterious, security around the show got tighter in order to keep spoilers leakage to a minimum. Luckily for us, extras always delivered the goods. This week, Whitney Matheson, who writes the "Pop Candy" column at USA Today, relays information an extra sent about her experience on the set and the episode she will appear in. Spoilers ahead!

Lost: Meet Kevin Johnson

Harold Perrineau, Henry Ian Cusick, and Naveen Andrews

(S04E08) We're going into a five-week Lost hiatus, and I'm extremely thankful that this wasn't the season finale. "Meet Kevin Johnson" wasn't a bad episode, but I couldn't have waited until 2009 for a follow-up. This episode did have its moments. We learned more about the island's connection to its inhabitants, Michael's time on the mainland, and there was (at least) one death. That should keep us busy for the next month or so, right?

What did you think of Lost's enhanced season three finale?

Lost
Last week, ABC announced that it would air an enhanced version of the season 3 finale of its hit show Lost. This enhanced version of "Through the Looking Glass" was set to feature on-screen facts and back story about the episode and the series on the lower third of the screen.

Before seeing the end product, fan comments ranged from "just wrong" because the on-screen facts would clutter the screen and cover part of the beautiful shots to "giving many people who wouldn't be tuning in a reason to consider it," and "great idea." Personally, I embraced the idea because it would offer something to chew on while waiting for the season premiere.

ABC to air enhanced version of season three finale of Lost

LostYears ago, I loved watching Pop Up Video to learn more about the artists and the music videos themselves. When I bought my Back to the Future Trilogy DVD, I was thrilled to see that we could watch all three movies with fun facts about the cast and movie showing up throughout the features. If, like me, you like to know more about the behind the scenes, the actors, the fun stuff that happened while shooting, why certain characters are named the way they are, etc., rejoice because the season 3 finale of Lost is getting that treatment!

Evangeline Lilly among FHM's Top 100

Evangeline LillyFor the third year in a row, FHM has named Lost's Evangeline Lilly one of its 100 Sexiest Women. Apparently, Lilly is much sexier than she was in 2006. The actress was #73 last year, and has moved up to #35. I'm sure that she's flattered to have cracked the Top 50. The magazine failed to recognize the sexiness of Lilly's co-stars Elizabeth Mitchell, Yunjin Kim, Emilie de Ravin, and Kiele Sanchez.

Other ABC stars to make the list include Kelly Ripa (Live With Regis and Kelly), Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives), Salma Hayek (executive producer/guest star, Ugly Betty), Katherine Heigl, and Kate Walsh (Grey's Anatomy). Teri Hatcher of Desperate Housewives took Evangeline Lilly's old spot, #73. She was #10 last year. I guess sexiness is fleeting. The highest-ranked TV star is Ghost Whisperer's Jennifer Love Hewitt at #14.

Lilly is set to star alongside John Malkovich in Afterwards; it will be her feature film debut. Afterwards begins filming this summer, and will be released in 2008.

Esquire loves Evangeline Lilly

Evangeline Lilly, LostLost's Evangeline Lilly is featured in Esquire's "Women We Love" section. In addition to answering questions about the show, the actress posed for some skin-baring, Gilligan's Island-inspired photos. She shared the following details with the magazine:

  • Lilly worked as an extra in the film White Chicks when she was in college.
  • She still feels guilty that she was cast in Lost after doing auditions for only a month.
  • Although several major characters have died on the show, she is confident that the writers are not "finished with Kate yet."

Evangeline Lilly gets Punk'd

Evangeline LillyEvangeline Lilly has fallen victim to Ashton Kutcher and his Punk'd gang. The Lost actress will appear on the newest (and supposedly last) season of the MTV prank show, along with fellow celebrities Hilary Swank, Magic Johnson, and Nelly Furtado. Lilly's episode will be aired in an eight-episode marathon of the show on April 7. Each episode will be aired individually beginning on April 10.

No word yet on how Lilly was punk'd. Perhaps they switched Dominic Monaghan with Billy Boyd and waited for her to notice. MTV is promoting this season as the show's last, but fake announcements about the show's cancellation have been released before. A similar claim was made after the 2003 season of Punk'd, but the show returned in 2004. A Punk'd Awards highlight special covering all past seasons is scheduled for June 5.

Evangeline Lilly's acting journey

Evangeline Lilly and Josh HollowayEvangeline Lilly's acting career may have started with commercials, but the Lost star took on other personalities long before then. In an interview with Australia's Courier-Mail, the actress mentions that she moved six times in a three-year period, taking on a different persona each time. After her high school graduation, Lilly traveled all over British Columbia and found herself by "trying out" other personalities. This experience has probably come in handy in her portrayal of Kate, a fugitive who took on various identities to escape arrest.

Evangeline Lilly's Letterman appearance - VIDEO

Evangeline Lilly as KateEvangeline Lilly appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman last night, and the interview was much more casual and entertaining than her Good Morning America appearance. CBS has an excerpt of the interview on its website, and the full interview is available below.

The actress discusses her experiences as a flight attendant (one of her many previous jobs), and the aftermath of her highly publicized house fire. No up-to-date questions about Lost were answered, since David Letterman is apparently not a dedicated viewer (he thought the hatch was still around). The appearance has some funny moments, including a bit involving Lilly's request for a blanket.

The complete video follows after the jump.

Times Online interviews Evangeline Lilly

Evangeline Lilly, LostLost's Evangeline Lilly recently had and interview with the UK's Times Online, which appeared in the Driving section of the publication. In it, Lilly discussed her experiences as an auto mechanic, her life in Hawaii, and the pressures of fame. While she did not give away any details about future episodes, the actress did talk about her Golden Globe nomination as well as the unfortunate fire that destroyed her rented home. A brief recap is included below.

  • Lilly's often impatient driving style has caused her to get in more than a few fender benders while living in Hawaii.
  • The actress can do fifty knuckle press-ups.

Lost Easter egg hunt: Stranger in a Strange Land

Matthew Fox as Jack"Stranger in a Strange Land" cannot compete with "Flashes Before Your Eyes" in the Easter egg department, but there were a few useful clues. This episode moved away from the time theme and focused more on symbols. So far, fans have found the following eggs:

Marks: The overhyped revelation concerning Jack's tattoos shed some light on his possible future with the Others. Achara told Jack that he was a leader and a great man, then tattooed him with the phrase, "He walks amongst us, but he is not one of us." Fans that are familiar with the Chinese characters on Matthew Fox's arm have made it known that the characters represent the words "eagle," "strike," "long," and "sky" (or "void"). These words are connected to a poem by Chairman Mao Tse-tung, which contains the phrase "eagles high, cleaving sky" and discusses fate. Is Jack destined to lead the Others someday?

Video interview with Lost's Dominic Monaghan

Dominic Monaghan plays Charlie on LostOK, so maybe you're letting your Tivo take the reigns tonight because you've got a hot date with someone you love. That's fair.

But some of us only have love for Lost on Wednesday nights.

For all you counting down the hours until Lost airs tonight, here is a video TV Tattler interview with Dominic Monaghan. He answers some great questions, such as which one of his Lord of the Rings buddies actually watches Lost, and offers some insight on what he'd like to see in the new season. But I must admit, he's looking kind of rough, as if he was really stranded on an island. Regardless, it's a great interview and a great way to kill the time between now and Lost.
