(
S06E17) Chandra Wilson gets the opportunity to direct her own date this week on
'Grey's Anatomy.' Previously, she directed the episode
'Give Peace A Chance.' Sadly, the episode was not really substantial in any form or fashion. It followed the mold of the patients shaping the doctors (Teddy shouldn't be a bitch, Richard needs to calm down and see the big picture, and Arizona still doesn't want kids).
While everyone was working in a buddy system this week, in all truth, the only two pairs that worked were Meredith with Derek and Meredith with Christina. Maybe this show should return to the fact that it's 'Grey's Anatomy,' not 'Torres' Anatomy.' Meredith successfully called out Owen for being wishy-washy, and the five seconds of her with Derek was the best relationship in the whole episode.

(
S06E08) This episode of
Grey's Anatomy shows that
Grey's can be strong without having a Grey sister (or Izzie) involved. All the other characters are strong on their own, and it's nice seeing Arizona evolve as a character. Sadly, these episodes will come to an end next week.
I still laugh that pagers are still the standard for communicating with doctors outside of work. It's interesting to see the doctors dreading the fact that they didn't get enough sleep.
Who thinks of throwing a surprise birthday party anymore? I guess I'd rather take the $25 million donation to the hospital.

"The pager is sacred. Sacred sparkle." -- IzzieA sparkly pager, some quick-drying cement, and a field of candles all play into tonight's 2-hour episode -- the Season Four finale of
Grey's Anatomy. Has it really been only four seasons? Because it seems like so much more.
Anyway, tonight we learn a little more about some of the interns' history. For one thing, via a therapy session (and why can't I have Amy Madigan as
my therapist?), we learn that young Meredith saw her mom slit her wrists, then had to wait for her to pass out before calling 911.
Meredith says her mom wanted to die, but by the end of the episode, she figures out that she really didn't want to die. Being a brilliant surgeon, her mom would have known the faster road to death entailed slitting her carotid artery.

(S03E14) As I listened to the suddenly-lucid Ellis Grey yell at her daughter Meredith, telling her how ordinary she's being and how being in love is making her soft, all I could think of was: "Boy, what a
bitch!" I mean, she "wakes up" after five years, and she's already berating the only person who took the time to take care of her?
But then I saw the scene where Webber comforts Ellis and tries to tell her what their life together would have been like -- even though he knew it was never to be -- I could see where that disappointment came from. She wanted to be "ordinary" in the way her daughter was. But because she was more Yang and less Meredith, it just was never going to happen that way. This episode brought a bunch of relationships into focus, but the main one here is Meredith's "gift" of getting Ellis back, if only temporarily.

(S03E13) Many thanks to Keith for covering the show while I was in L.A. The other day, I caught the episode I missed; looks like Shonda Rhimes and company did a great job of dealing with Mr. O'Malley's death, the Burke-Yang cold war, and the cutsey fighting of Meredith and Derek. Oh, and they even briefly hooked Addison up with Alex again. Nice.
But the biggest revelation, at least to me, is how personally involved Bailey got with the O'Malleys, and how she actually took a cue from the always-involved Izzie. That carries over to this week's fairly straightforward episode. "The Nazi is back," says Derek when she forces the four potential Chiefs of Surgery to sign off on her free clinic idea. But it's a different Nazi... one that feels more than she used to, while being ballsier at the same time (note how she told Burke that he owed her after sandbagging her during the whole tremor period).

(S03E05) For some reason, this episode of
Grey's felt like a palate cleanser, a bit of a throat-clearer to set us up for the rest of the season. We have the Shepherds finally getting a divorce, and Addison finally tellling Derek the truth about Mark. Burke comes back and performs heart surgery... with help. Callie continues to tell George that they're through, almost in a "Hello... McFly..." fashion. Meredith tells Derek that she and Finn are done, but her timing couldn't have been worse. And Izzie has both feet in the hospital.
Oh, and there was the M&M conference about the Denny Debacle. Didn't think they'd show that, did you?

Just got a press release from ABC announcing that Eric Dane is joining the cast of
Grey's Anatomy on a full-time basis. Of course, every
Grey's fan knows that Dane plays Dr. Mark Sloan, otherwise known as "McSteamy." Remember that Addison Shepherd (Kate Walsh) cheated on her husband Derek (Patrick Depmsey) with Sloan, prompting Derek to move to Seattle, where he met a certain skinny blonde intern.
Anyway, we saw Dane at the end of
last night's episode, coming out of the bathroom in Addison's hotel room, right after she realized her marriage to Derek was truly over. Guess we'll see the two of them be a couple for a while now. Anything that keeps Walsh on the show is fine with me.
This is the second cast addition of the year; recall that Sara Ramirez (who plays Callie) also became a permanent cast member before the season started. The press release is after the jump.
