(S01E03) When you're mounting a resistance against an alien presence that way outclasses you in technology, and even outclasses you in propaganda and being good-looking, you're going to need help, and preferably of the "inside" variety. With
V scheduled to go on a long hiatus after next week's episode, it's important that the resistance come together by then.
While we made good progress this episode, and learned some more good information, I fear they won't get us to a compelling hook before they go into hibernation for the winter. People will forget about this show if we don't get hooked in good next week. Unless ABC wants to promote its relaunch like another new series, they need to grab us by the jowls and sink their teeth in ... or at least unhinge our jaws and cram a guinea pig of awesome down our gullets.

(S01E02) See, now things are starting to make more sense. The important thing, as a fan of the old
V, is to remember that this is a whole new kind of war. The Visitors aren't coming down in bright red suits with funny voices. Instead they've been infiltrating our society for years, possibly decades.
The question of why Erica wouldn't just go straight to her bosses at the FBI with what she knows is self-explanatory when you consider that her partner of seven years was a Visitor. They look and act like us, and they could be any one of us. So who do you trust takes on a whole new meaning.
I think it's a smart move to establish more of a guerrilla war against the Visitors. And now that the one resistance cell Erica and Jack found has been scattered to the wind, it's a matter of starting over. But, as seen with the developments this week, it may be a race to uncover the truth before it's too late.

You probably heard that
ABC's V premiere got off to a big start in the ratings. In fact, it was the biggest drama series premiere of the season, seen by 14.3 million viewers and netting a 5.2 rating among adults 18-49. What does all that mean? To me, it says that even without the
skywriting promotion that was canned, ABC marketing had raised awareness and drew the curious, the sci-fi fans, the nostalgic and a few more watchers for the launch.
Despite the big number, there's a good chance that
V will sink in future outings because viewers like me were not hooked. I wanted to fall in like/love, but it didn't happen. Here's five reasons why:

(S01E01) We were promised a modern re-imagining of the classic '80s
V mini-series, and that's exactly what we got. Gone were the allusions to World War II Nazism and the treatment of Jews in Europe. Instead, we're offered allusions to the war we've been fighting for eight years now.
I wasn't sure how they could modify the storylines from the series I remembered to accurately find parallels to our war on terrorism, and the terrorist movements themselves, but they did. And they did it all while staying true to the struggles and fears that's kept the original series fresh in our minds for 26 years now.
Even better, I watched this with my 10-year old son who's never seen the original, and he was absolutely riveted. Everything I loved about
V back then is here, and there's so much more to get excited about. I always thought
V should be an ongoing series, and even though we eventually got one, I think this time they've finally got it right.

Ah, Season Four. You were so good to us, even though you were slightly shorted by that pesky writers strike.
Lost wasn't as impacted as a lot of other shows because the creators had already gotten the okay to do three shorter seasons before any of this happened. Sure they lost a little bit of time, but not enough to have really impacted the show.
And Season Four gave us such pivotal moments. The introduction of the freighties, including some really good and interesting characters. The return of Michael. The identities of the Oceanic Six. An in-depth examination of what happened to them after the island in more flash forwards. The man in the cabin. Ben moves the island. And the identity of the man in the casket. So much happened in fourteen short episodes, but still that's not enough. To fill out the set, we've got two full discs of extras.

The
Saturn awards ceremony was held last night, and
Lost dominated the television categories with four wins. The drama won the award for Best Network Series and nearly swept the acting categories. Evangeline Lilly lost the Best Actress award to
Ghost Whisperer's Jennifer Love Hewitt, last year's winner. Most of the first-time nominees, such as
Pushing Daisies and
Journeyman, were shut out.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was the only exception; Summer Glau tied for Best Supporting Actress.
Comedian Jeffrey Ross hosted the event. Hopefully this is just the beginning of a successful awards season for
Lost. A complete list of winners in the television categories follows after the jump.

This season of
Lost was my second favorite season ever, so it was difficult to come up with criticisms. A shortened season meant that there wasn't room for a weak episode. Nikki, Paulo, and Bai Ling stayed away. A few things are bothering me now that this chapter is finished, though. Some characters got a raw deal, and some twists failed to shock. It wasn't all time travel and brilliant action scenes.
Jack's appendicitis - Apart from bringing Jack and Kate closer together, I don't understand why this storyline was necessary. The flash-forwards ensured that Jack would survive his low-tech surgery, so there wasn't any tension there. It seemed like the only point of Jack's illness was to completely kill the Juliet-Jack relationship. Jack and Juliet's chemistry never worked for me. They shared two forgettable kisses, and then Jack basically blew her off after she saved his life. Still, Juliet deserved a better break-up, from both Jack and the writers.

(S04E10) The writers gave us a break after last week's action- and information-packed episode. While Jack struggled with appendicitis, we got another look at his future off the island. Three of the other members of the Oceanic Six turned up, and Jack learned that there's no escaping a love triangle. Back on the island, Claire had an unexpected visitor.

(S04E08) We're going into a five-week Lost hiatus, and I'm extremely thankful that this wasn't the season finale. "Meet Kevin Johnson" wasn't a bad episode, but I couldn't have waited until 2009 for a follow-up. This episode did have its moments. We learned more about the island's connection to its inhabitants, Michael's time on the mainland, and there was (at least) one death. That should keep us busy for the next month or so, right?

Now that I've pointed out some of the disappointments of Season Three, it's time to give the show its due praise. This season, Lost returned to its Season One glory, and it was a joy to experience. Loyal fans were rewarded with serious answers, killer performances, and one of the biggest game-changers ever. Let's get to it!
Answers, Answers, Answers: If there was one thing I couldn't complain about in my Lost letdowns post, it was a lack of answers. We got plenty of answers to questions that were raised in all three seasons of the show. We learned how Locke ended up in his wheelchair, one of the most intriguing questions of Season One (certainly more so than the origin of Jack's tattoos). Fans' theories about Claire's real father were confirmed. A piece of the DHARMA Initiative's history was revealed, and we even got a look at Jacob. As if that wasn't enough, we learned the identity of the original Sawyer--and so did James "Sawyer" Ford. Thank you, Lost writers!!

Elizabeth Mitchell made a brief appearance on E!'s The Daily 10 last week to plug Lost. A video clip of the interview is available after the jump. Mitchell discusses the alleged "Lost curse," the controversy surrounding Matthew Fox's upcoming speech at Columbia, and does a humorous 15-second pitch for the show. The newest Lost episode, "The Man From Tallahassee," airs this Wednesday at 10pm ET. Enjoy the video!

Gee, you would think that there would be a finite amount of people on the island where Oceanic Flight 815 crash landed. Well, apparently not, as a new cast member will be added to the ever growing list of actors and actresses on ABC's Lost.
The newest to join is actress Elizabeth Mitchell. She will play a character named Juliet on the hit series. There's very little else known about the character (I'm surprised we were told her name); however, according to an article at Zap2it she may be a new love interest for Jack, played by Matthew Fox. Whether or not she'll be part of the crash survivors from the other side of the island still hasn't been revealed.
Mitchell, whose had previously worked on The Lyon's Den and ER, is the second cast member to be added to Lost in a week. ABC previously announced that Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro would become a regular next season as well.
