(S05E09) Every episode of
The Closer is a puzzle of sorts, and this one surely qualified, especially since it began in court with the case already decided. All that remained was the formality of Russell Clark -- guest star Bruce Davison -- elocuting to the judge. Well, not so fast. There were a few hiccups requiring Brenda's immediate attention.
The moment Cynthia Watros showed up as the victim's widow, anxious to reclaim her husband's belongings from the crime scene, suspicions were raised. But first Brenda had to figure out why Russell Clark had confessed to the crime, if he was covering for his schizophrenic son, James -- if James was capable of the murder in the first place, and then there was the question of what to do with Mama. Yes, Willy Ray was there, along with Fritz and Charlene, Brenda's niece.

Lost may be the twistiest-turniest show on TV, but there is still one thing you can always depend on: death is never the end. Producers have proven this once again by announcing the
return of the late LAPD officer, Ana Lucia.
Michelle Rodriguez, who played Ana Lucia during
Lost's second season, wasn't exactly the most
popular character the drama has ever had, so I doubt her resurrection was the result of a rabid fan uprising.
Rodriguez, of course, isn't the first deceased "Tailie"
Lost has brought back.
Cynthia Watros, who played Libby, appeared in one of Michael's visions last season. Rodriguez's return is fueling speculation that Mr. Eko, who met his untimely demise at the (hands?) of the smoke monster, may also return in some form.
Since we're talking about
Lost here, there isn't exactly a wealth of details available about Ana Lucia's reappearance. However, there is a little bit of interesting information, which I've put after the jump for all of you spoilerphobes.

(S01E02) This is what is fun about anthology shows, and why I can never understand why they never do better in the ratings. As much as people bitch about and resist taking a chance on long-form new serialized programs like the '05-'06 trinity of
Invasion,
Surface and
Threshold, you would think they would embrace a series where each episode truly stands alone. With a show like this, your investment into it won't be impacted in any way if the network pulls the plug after only thirteen episodes, or even just four.
And yet, anthology shows tend to struggle even more than heavily serialized fare. In fact,
Fear Itself got its ass handed to it by Swingtown in the head-to-head premieres last week. The big question is, with the "not-so-good" nature of the premiere, how many people came back to see this much improved second episode, and how many will stick around for Daniel Knaupf's outstanding episode next week? While last week was a poorly written and acted "monster of the week" boobfest, this time we got a well constructed good old-fashioned haunting.

Former Lost co-star Cynthia Watros has landed a part in a new CBS pilot. The actress will be playing Marisa Tomei's best friend in the comedy The Rich Inner Life of Penelope Cloud. Tomei will play the lead role of Penelope Cloud, a "brilliant" writer. With such a long title, the show is sure to be a huge success, right?
Watros, who played Libby on the second season of Lost, also had a part in a failed CBS pilot called My Ex Life last year. Her career has failed to take off since her abrupt departure from Lost following a DUI arrest. Since leaving the show, her only major acting credit has been a supporting role in the movie Frank. Watros made her final Lost appearance on the season two finale, "Live Together, Die Alone."

A couple of days ago,
we told you about the news that
Lost's (and -- to me --
Titus' and
Drew Carey's) Cynthia Watros has signed to be a
"guest star" on the new Tom Cavanagh CBS sitcom, which for now is called
My Ex-Life. But the
important part of the story as far as I'm concerned is that Watros will be taking the place of
Sons &
Daugters' Gillian Vigman (pictured),
who had
signed on to the pilot deal as a second option, in case
S&D got cancelled.
So here's the
$64 question: Does this mean that
S&D, one of my favorite shows of the season, is coming back? We don't
know yet, but
this Zap2It
article speculates that becaue ABC Entertainment president Steve McPherson is such a big fan of the show and he's
had a history of unexpected pickups (just ask everyone on
Jake In Progress), it might actually happen. So,
S&D fans, keep your fingers crossed.

Cynthia Watros, who plays Libby on
Lost, apologized to a judge for drinking and driving. She pleaded guilty
to DUI, after being picked up by police in Hawaii on December 1st. Watros had to pay a $370 fine, have her driver's
license suspended for 90 days, and attend alcohol counseling. Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Ana Lucia on
Lost,
was also picked up for drunk driving on the same night. She has chosen to fight the charge and will go on trial in
March. If convicted, she could be sent to prison in California for violating her probation for drunk driving charges in
that state. Maybe the outcome of that trial will determine whether Ana Lucia lives or dies at the end of this season...
or maybe that's already decided.
