A&E to do live Criss Angel show - VIDEO

Criss Angel with a kittyA&E will celebrate the return of Mindfreak (in it's fourth season, God help us) by broadcasting the first ever live episode of the show. The special one-hour episode will feature Angel shackled to a six-story building. He must escape to a helicopter hovering over the rooftop as the building explodes. But wait, there's more. The fourth season kicks off one week before the live show with "Walk on a Lake," the season premiere. In this episode, the magician will attempt to walk on the world's largest man-made lake, Lake Mead in Nevada.

I think all the season premiere will prove is that Criss Angel definitely has a God-complex. He is the biggest megalomanic douchebag I've ever seen on TV. I think the best thing to come of Mindfreak is that parody Mad TV did. I put the video after the jump.

The live Mindfreak will air on July 30th at 10 p.m. ET on A&E. The season premiere will air on July 23rd at 10 p.m. ET. Will you be watching?

Jim Callahan vs. Criss Angel - VIDEO

criss angel - phenomenonIn case you missed it -- and judging by the ratings, chances are you did -- there was a bit of blowup this week on NBC's new show Phenomenon. Paranormalist Jim Callahan had just finished his performance, where he was possessed by the spirit of author Raymond Hill. After that, they went to the judges for comments. Uri Gellar was rather positive about the whole thing, but Criss Angel, not so much.

He started his critique by saying, "I just think it's comical, quite frankly." Now, the good judge/bad judge routine is nothing new to this kind of a show. But then Angel went on to pull two envelopes from his pocket and put both Callahan and, strangely enough, Geller, on the spot, offering a million dollars if they could tell him what was in the envelopes. From there, things continued to go down hill. Watch the video, after the jump.

Mindfreak's Criss Angel interviewed

The actual season of summer is still a few weeks away, but the summer TV season is certainly upon us. New episodes are few and far between, and many of those that the networks do offer up leave something to be desired. Impersonators? Pirates? Bingo? Criss Angel cement block stunt

Fortunately, the fine folks over at A&E do have a nice summer distraction ready to roll. Tomorrow brings the third season of Mindfreak, starring Criss Angel. To kick off the new season Angel is currently housed in a giant block above Times Square which is being filled with cement by tourists. The block will drop tomorrow morning. You can see the live webcast of the event on the A&E site.

If you get bored with the web feed, which takes an average of 17 seconds I believe, because it's really just a mostly silent web feed of a rainy New York street, you can head over to TV Blend and read an interview with Criss. He talks about the new season, the cement block, his rivalry with David Blaine, and his acting gigs on Las Vegas and C.S.I., among other things. Mindfreak premieres June 5th, at 10PM.

  • It's the end of the road for American Idol, but Paula wants everyone to know "we're all winners."
  • Apollo was named the champ of Dancing with the Stars, despite some who say his moves were "too raunchy."
  • Criss Angel has a new stunt planned, and it sounds... odd.

Penn and Angel weigh in on Blaine

penn jilletteI've been listening to magician Penn Jillete's radio show for awhile now, and it's become perfectly clear that no matter how much he likes you, he'll still insult you. During yesterday's program, which you can listen to here, he and guest Criss Angel spent the hour slamming David Blaine and his stunt in front of Lincoln Center. This isn't the first time Penn has lobbed insults at Blaine, although he always prefaces those insults by saying he does admire Blaine as a performer. Penn's assertion is that most of the card tricks Blaine does could easily be learned by anyone in under six minutes. Of course, one should take Penn's penchant for exaggeration into consideration, as well. Angel, also a fan of Blaine's, claimed he has already done Blaine's underwater stunt, having been submerged in a tank for twenty-four hours. Since math wasn't my best subject I haven't been able to figure out how twenty-four hours is the same as seven days, but there you go. Penn also reiterated something he's been saying all week, which is that his partner Teller has been underwater for more than eleven minutes on more than one occasion as part of their stage show, considerably more than the current record of eight minutes and fifty-eight seconds. Of course, Penn then adds this caveat: "Of course, he was cheating."

So yeah, it's a bit after the fact, but if you want to hear magicians talking smack, it's worth a listen.
