Welcome back to "AI Aftermath," where we explore
Idol's past. Each week, as one more
American Idol hopeful is eliminated from the competition, we take a look back at contestants past who were eliminated in the same week. We'll examine how they did on the show and what they've been up to since their elimination. In honor of Ramiele Malubay's elimination last week we'll be looking at other ninth place finishers.
This week: 9th place finishers, featuring featuring Jim Verraros (Season One), Corey Clark* (Season Two), Camile Velasco (Season Three), Nikko Smith (Season Four), Mandisa (Season Five), Gina Glocksen (Season Six).
* - Corey Clark was not voted out by viewers but was disqualified.

Their
American Idol experience may have ended early,
but being booted from season six before the Top 12 apparently did not truly signify the end of the road for semifinalists Sabrina Sloan or Sundance Head. In fact, according to an
Entertainment Weekly exclusive, both of them have signed a contract with Universal Motown to record a CD of duets together.

A new DVD,
American Idol: Unauthorized, takes aim at the
Idol juggernaut, interviewing fans, critics, experts (in what, I'm not sure), and past contestants in an attempt to dig up and reveal behind-the-scene scandals and scoops.
I haven't viewed the doc, but according to
this review, there's quite a bit of sour grapes whining coming from past
Idol rejects. Scott Savol (Season 4) claims creative editing made him appear "lazy." Corey Clark (Season 2) whines about not getting a free hairstylist. And Julia Demato (Season 2) complains that some contestants were given more attention from vocal coaches than others.

Why does Paula Abdul continue to set herself up for mean jokes from Simon Cowell? This time she's going to be
featured on a Valentine's Day special edition of
Dr. Phil where the two try to figure out why she's been
married two times and is once again single. One of the problems, according to the press release for the show, is that
Paula has a hard time being with men who haven't reached her level of success. [Insert Simon Cowell jab here]
After she and Dr. Phil have dissected her relationship issues, Paula will choose one man out of ten to go on a blind
date. That date will be filmed, of course, and Dr. Phil will also dissect that. Why can't
The Smoking Gun do an expose on this man?

People online has a nifty little photo-story
updating us on some of our favorite American Idol contestants who didn't win the title. Here are a few:
- Diana DeGarmo: after spending the holidays entertaining the troops abroad, she's
joining the cast of Hairspray on Broadway on February 7.
- Frenchie Davis: proving that racy photos
on the internet aren't the end of all things, she's a cast member of Rent on Broadway, where she's been since
she was prematurely booted off the show in 2003.
- William Hung: thinking he's entitled to more than
15 minutes of fame, he's still performing crap from his three, yes three, albums.
- Tamyra Gray: the one who
should've gone against Kelly Clarkson in the finale, Tamyra is working on her second album and persuing more acting
roles.
- Josh Gracin: lookin' a little thick around the middle, Josh just kicked
off a tour where he is opening for Trace Adkins. He and his wife, Ann Marie, now have two children.
- Corey
Clark: ah, who the hell cares?
The story also includes new photos and updates on Ruben Studdard,
Jennifer Hudson, LaToya London, and
Justin Guarini.
