Universal to adapt Second Sight

Second SightYet another BBC series is being adapted to American audiences. Only this time, it sounds like it's going to be a movie.

Universal Pictures will be adapting the 1999 BBC series Second Sight which launched the career of Clive Owen. It will be produced by Angry Film's Don Murphy and Susan Montford. The story is about a homicide detective named Ross Tanner who suffers from a degenerative eye illness that leads to blindness and hallucinations. As a result, he must rely more on his intuition to solve crimes.

There have certainly been any number of American adaptations of British shows over time. Some are good and some are utter crap. Second Sight does sound like a good premise (I've never seen the show), but I think the movie would have more credentials if they made sure to involve members of the original crew. I wonder if they'll get Clive Owen to reprise his role?

Children of Men: The series

Children of MenSince it looks like Bionic Woman is not coming back to NBC, although nothing's been confirmed, the executive producer is moving on. David Eick is writing a pilot based on the Alfonso Cuarón film Children of Men for SciFi.

The film, brilliantly directed by the Mexican filmmaker, was a grim tale about the future -- England in 2027 -- where women have become completely infertile and the human race faces a major crises with less than a century to survive.

Children of Men producer developing new show

SlaterChristian Slater is coming back to weekly television.

The actor has signed to star in a new NBC drama called Dirty Little Secrets. He'll play an investigative reporter who tackles the stories that "get swept under the carpet." The show will be produced by Arymyan Bernstein, one of the producers of the acclaimed Clive Owen film Children of Men.

It's good to hear that NBC isn't abandoning scripted shows after canceling so many this season (Kidnapped, Andy Barker, P.I., The Black Donnellys, probably Studio 60, Raines, etc). This new show has an interesting premise. Anything but another reality show or game show, eh?

The Daily Show: March 20, 2006

Jon StewartApparently, New York was (is?) experiencing some peculiar weather on these first few days of Spring. "If you see the groundhog today, y'punch him in the face for me," Jon ordered. That Punxsutawney Phil is a lying bastard. Jon then did a few jokes to reference something that happened during the pre-show warm-up. An audience member brought Jon some wine as a gift, but it left Jon concerned. "Should wine be carbonated?" Well, it doesn't really matter... If it has a fancy name, drink it.
