(S01E10) It's down to the wire, the Sixwire, to be precise. Oh, and the Clark Brothers and Denver and the Mile High Orchestra, too. Yesirree, Bob, it's the season finale of
The Next Great American Band.
Tonight's show not only featured the three finalist bands; it also took us for a trip down memory lane, featured performances by the Jeff Bird, Northmont, Goo Goo Dolls and Sheila E., and boasted what I thought was a very enjoyable Christmas medley with the top seven bands from the show.
The winner? Oh, no. Not before the jump!

(S01E09) Doesn't it seem that
The Next Great American Band just started a few weeks ago? I guess it was more like a few months ago, as we're into the season finale next week.
Did the voting get it right this week, leaving us talent in the remaining three bands who will vie for the title next week? Or did the teenyboppers and Vote For The Worst site rule the voting?
In case folks haven't seen the show, we'll talk about it after the jump.

(S01E08) Five bands sit in the green room of
The Next Great American Band. Only four bands will play. One band, despite all of the arranging, rehearsing, worrying, and hoping, won't take the stage. That band will just leave the building, sort of like a lesser Elvis. In a few cases, a drastically way lesser Elvis.
Hmmm ... I wonder what Elvis would think of the Clark Brothers? I don't want to know what he'd think of the Light of Doom, though. Tonight the bands played a Queen song and then an original. Now, I would like to see Light of Doom try
Bohemian Rhapsody, wouldn't you?

(S01E07) Tonight it was Rod Stewart covers on
The Next Great American Band. Please don't get me wrong. I enjoy the music and the choice of artists for the show just fine. It's music I know, a lot of it I own in various formats, and it's the music I listened to as I was growing up.
But there's the kicker. With the exception of Sixwire and some of the members of Denver and the Mile High Orchestra, the artists chosen are way before the times of the bands at hand. I know I'm old school, but haven't there been any great songs or artists in more recent times for them to cover? This happens with
American Idol, too. Since the voting and music buying audience is probably younger, I just can't understand it.

(S01E06) Tonight was Mick Jagger and Keith Richard (otherwise known as The Rolling Stones) covers featured on
The Next Great American Band. After tonight, the show will be down to the final six bands. Of course, I'm not quite sure the landmark status that has. It will be the final band standing (or rocking) which will reap the rewards of the recording contract.
I was looking forward to the music tonight and, before the jump, let me tell you ... one band totally blew me away. Nah, I won't tell you what band did that. Not before the jump. But, speaking of jumps, you can bet that one band did "Jumpin' Jack Flash." You knew someone would have to, right?

(S01E05) Well, that was a bit of a shocker tonight, eh? Who would have thought that Dicko would propose marriage to the lead singer of Dot Dot Dot? I surely didn't see that coming, did you?
Okay, I'm lying. I just don't want to mention the band voted out before the jump in case folks reading the main TV Squad page recorded
The Next Great American Band for viewing at a later time. Then people would be yelling at me and I'm sensitive, y'know. But I can't have blank white space here, so I should say something.
Read on for the lowdown on the tonight's episode ...

(S01E04) This series is clumped in with the reality show genre. But in the olden days of television -- you know, back when you were knee-high to a grasshopper --
The Next Great American Band would have been listed as a talent show. Or, perhaps even more appropriate would be a Battle of the Bands.
But a typical old-style Battle of the Bands has an edge over this show. The bands play their own kind of music. While I love the variety of the music genres on the show, it's that very variety in genres which I think throws things off a bit.

(S01E03) The field of bands narrowed by two tonight on
The Next Great American Band. So, we're down to ten bands who specialize in various genres. I'm not sure how much I enjoyed the way they did the reveal of the two bands going home. It seemed a bit needlessly cruel, kind of like cruel and unusual punishment.
Each band sang prepared and rehearsed one of their original songs and then a song from the vast array of Elton John and Bernie Taupin numbers. The bands were called out one by one to perform. If they performed, they had made the cut for the week. The two bands who didn't make it had to go through all the rehearsals and sit foolishly and uncomfortably waiting, the camera panning them throughout the show, until the very end. When it was down to three bands, poof.

(S01E02) So there I was last night ... stuck in the crowds heading to see Bon Jovi in Newark and I said to myself, "No! I cannot succumb! I promised
JJ Hawkins I'd sit in this week to review
The Next Great American Band while he's on vacation!" No Bon Jovi live for me -- give me the Light of Doom! Unfortunately, a lot of the Bon Jovi fans heading to the concert looked like the Light of Doom boys albeit with shirts on. Odd.
This is going to be an interesting show to watch throughout the season. With such diversity and so many bands who excel in their own genre, I'll have to stick around to who wins in the end.
