Christopher Knight to host Trivial Pursuit

Christopher KnightThis was inevitable, really. Ex-Brady Bunch star and current reality show favorite Christopher Knight is going to host a new syndicated version of the board game Trivial Pursuit.

I have to agree with Rich Heldenfels when he says this press release for the show is rather odd. It's way too long, the type of bio you get when someone is trying to look more important, more well-rounded than they are. Not that Knight hasn't been around a while, but a list of the TV shows he's done would be enough, instead of saying weird things like "once and forever a Brady!" and "Christopher's successful endeavors beyond showbiz exist in peaceful subordination to his portrayal of Peter and his arguably estimable contribution to American pop culture." Wha? And when talking about the show TV Road Trip, why is the word "host" in quotes?

Anyway, maybe they'll have celebrity contestants on at some point. Maybe Peter's mom can be on the show. It bows on September 22.

Mrs. Brady says that her son's marriage is a sham

Florence HendersonOf course, by "Mrs. Brady" I mean the woman with Wessonality, Florence Henderson, and by "son" I mean her TV son Christopher Knight, who played pork chops and applesauce-lovin middle kid Peter on The Brady Bunch.

Henderson was speaking at a press conference at the Television Critics Association tour for a new Hallmark Channel movie when she mentioned that she thinks that VH-1 pressured Knight into getting married to America's Next Top Model's Adrianne Curry so they could create buzz and more reality show goodness.

Christopher Knight lights himself on fire

Adrienne Curry and Christopher KnightFor week two of Celebrity Circus, ex-Brady Buncher Christopher Knight will set himself ablaze as he performs "fire clowning." I wonder how Adrienne Curry feels about this. It's got to raise some suspicions about your husband's sanity if he's willing to set himself on fire for reality TV.

Here's some of the other stupid things the celebs will be doing this week on the show:

Wee Man battling the German Wheel, the same act in which Knight broke his arm. Wee Man will be paired with trainer Vladimir Sizov for a synchronized act. Stacey Dash will perform on the Cerceau alongside trainer Sacha Fedorchev. Dash will be creating a sexy and high-energy routine flying 50 feet above the ground with no safety line or harness. Antonio Sabato Jr. will push himself to the limit doing a hand-balancing act with his partner and trainer Christine Van Loo. There will be no room for errors as any little mistake could lead to serious injury.

NBC Summer Press Event report

On Friday I attended the All-American Summer Press Event held by NBC Universal. The event was held at the Langham Hotel (formerly the Ritz-Carlton) in Pasadena, CA. It included the casts and producers of the following shows: American Gladiators, Nashville Star, Shear Genius, and Last Comic Standing. NBC also held panels for two new shows: Celebrity Circus and Baby Borrowers.

Find out what Wolf said and what's in store for next season on NBC and Bravo after the jump...

Celebrities turn circus freaks for NBC

joey fatone; celebrity circusFormer 'N Sync-er Joey Fatone has landed another hosting gig with NBC. He'll be at the ringmaster of NBC's updated version of Circus of the Stars, called Celebrity Circus. It's basically the same idea as the '80s show, where celebrities will attempt to master the high wire, trapeze, yada yada yada. Except it has the modern reality show must-have: a row of judges who will critique their performances.

Here are the "celebrities" who have agreed to participate:
  • Christopher Knight, aka 'Peter Brady'
  • Rachel Hunter, model
  • Antonio Sabato Jr.,
  • Blu Cantrell, singer
  • Janet Evans, Olympic swimmer
  • Jason "Wee Man" Acuna, of Jackass fame

Barry Williams: The TV Squad Interview

Bary WilliamsThere are six human beings on this planet who will be forever linked by one experience: growing up on the set of The Brady Bunch. But, of the six actors who played the Brady kids during the show's 1969-74 run, none has embraced the role as consistently and enthusiastically as Barry Williams, who played Greg. Over the years, Williams has been involved in every reunion show (including the ill-fated "dramatic" show The Bradys in 1990) and has never shied away from discussing the show during interviews. He even wrote a book about the experience, 1992's Growing Up Brady: I Was a Teenage Greg, where he recounted stories like his crush on co-star Maureen McCormick, his "date" with his TV mom, Florence Henderson, and Robert Reed's constant arguments with the producers. The book was made into a TV movie in 2000.

Now, at 53, Williams has a blog, called The Greg Brady Project, which debuted in December. There, Williams tells stories about his experiences as an actor over the last 40-plus years while a series of co-writers wax nostalgic about the past, and not necessarily about The Brady Bunch. I spoke to Williams by phone earlier this month. We talked about the blog, why he's embraced his Greg Brady past more than his co-stars, and what he thinks of some of those co-stars' new projects. The interview is after the jump.

Here's the story...

The animated Brady KidsThere is a treat for all fans of The Brady Bunch over at AOL TV. As part of their "Where are they now?" series, AOL TV is providing the current stats on all your favorite BB cast members.

Some of them have been more high profile than others. Christopher Knight (Peter) is, of course, well-known to today's reality show fans. He was a cast member on The Surreal Life where he met and fell in love with America's Next Top Model winner Adrianne Curry. The two of them went on to star on their own reality series My Fair Brady which ended with their wedding.

That one guy from The Brady Bunch got married

christopher knight; adrianne curry; brady bunch; my fair bradyNo, the other guy. The middle kid. Christopher Knight, who played Peter Brady on The Brady Bunch television series and now has his own reality show on VH1, got married over the holiday weekend to another reality television star. Knight, 47, met Adrianne Curry, 23, when they were both on The Surreal Life. They went on to star in the reality series, My Fair Brady, and in the sequel, My Fair Brady: We're Getting Married. The actual wedding was May 29th and some of Knight's former co-stars attended, including Barry Williams (Greg Brady), Susan Olsen (Cindy Brady), and Mike Lookinland (Bobby Brady). There's no official air date for the nuptials.

After all these reality shows, when do you think reality will actually set in for these two lovebirds?

My day with the G-Listers at the Chiller expo

Chris Knight and Adrianne CurryAh, there's nothing like an entertainment convention to bring out the freaky, the obsessed, and the just plain weird. Such was the case at the Chiller Theatre winter convention, which was held in Secaucus, NJ this past weekend. Probably the smallest of the three Chiller conventions (there's one in the summer and "the big one", around Halloween), this one still had it's share of sci-fi and fantasy nuts floating around, especially in the dealer area, where there were tables with Japanese anime action figures, fake samurai swords, tons and tons of movie imports, sci-fi toys in the original packaging, and lots of black t-shirts.

(A good example: I went with my buddy Roger, a Chiller veteran. While we were there, he found out that one of his friends bought some rare Japanese monster toys for $23,000 at the show. Another guy dropped $5500 on a single monster toy. The people who go here are hardcore, to say the least.)

But what has always intrigued me about this convention are the celebrities that attend. Unlike Star Trek or other show- and genre-specific conventions, Chiller usually gathers fallen celebrities from all over the entertainment spectrum. That is what brought me to the convention on Saturday.

Greg and Peter Brady to make out on That 70s Show

greg and peter bradyI think I can say, without fear of contradiction, that all of us who grew up with the Brady Bunch wanted just once to see Greg and Peter making out. According to Herbie JP over at Media Village TV Monitor, actors Barry Williams (Greg) and Christopher Knight (Peter) will share a kiss on an upcoming episode of That 70s Show. The episode is set to air on April 27 and is titled "Josh and Jeff." All I can say is the kiss better be convincing. I won't accept anything less than a sweaty, groping, open-mouthed kiss that lasts for twelve straight minutes. Otherwise, I'm tuning out.
