So first I see the headline that
NBC is developing SelleVision, a home-shopping comedy. I immediately thought of how well tapping into payday loans worked for The CW last year. I guess I associate the people who shop on those home-shopping networks as the same people who get payday loans? Not fair, I know but what can you do.
I don't think we've had a home-shopping network-based scripted show (of that, I'm probably wrong). At the least, it's unique. Then I saw that Bryan Singer was directing. Okay, interesting. Bryan Fuller (
Pushing Daisies) is set to write? Sold!
The series, based on the book of the same name, was originally optioned for film, but now is being expanded for television. The bottom line is that the book is bizarre and funny; it features alcohol and drug abuse, marital affairs and other twisted things among its mostly female cast. Fuller excels at weird hour-long comedy-dramas, and this material sounds like a perfect fit for him.

We just got done with the NBC executive session, where primetime entertainment head Angela Bromstad and alternative programming (read: reality) chief Paul Telegdy took the reporters questions.
Of course, many of the questions had to do with
The Jay Leno Show and Ben Silverman's departure. What the gathered reporters got out of the two executives was evasiveness, referrals to other executives, and a general sense that the two of them either don't know or don't want to provide answers about their own network.
When the question of Leno and
CBS's Nina Tassler's assertion that NBC would declare victory no matter what numbers they got, Bromstad tried to pass us to the session for Leno's show later in the day. Telegdy did the same. But we wouldn't let them off the hook. An example exchange, for instance, went like this:

Bryan Fuller, whose
departure from the writing team of Heroes was seen by some as a harbinger of doom for the troubled superhero show, recently announced that despite the cancellation of his triple Emmy Award-winning TV series
Pushing Daisies, he plans to continue to the series -- as a comic book with DC.
Laura Hudson of sister site
ComicsAlliance talked to Fuller at Comic-Con about what's in store for
Pushing Daisies after it moves from TV to print, and after he mentioned an interest in superhero comics, she asked if he had any interest in writing superhero comics himself -- and he responded with an enthusiastic "yes!"

Kristin over at E! Online has confirmed something that Ain't It Cool News reported earlier today:
Heroes producer Bryan Fuller has left the show (again)!
A lot of buzz surrounded Fuller's return to the show last season. After
Pushing Daisies was canceled, Fuller returned to the NBC show that he produced during the first season. Many fans credit Fuller with getting the show back on track. It did indeed seem that the show was a little bit more focused and engaging when he returned.
And no, this doesn't mean that he's going to be working on a big-screen adaptation of
Pushing Daisies. Sorry fans.

... Bryan Fuller thinks so. The former
Star Trek: Voyager producer and current
Heroes scribe told Sci Fi Wire that he'd
love to create a new Star Trek series.
"I think that a
Star Trek TV series is probably a couple years away, just to let the feature franchise breathe," the
Pushing Daisies creator said, adding that any new
Trek series should take place in the universe seen in J.J. Abrams' new
Star Trek movie.
Fuller said a new
Trek series shouldn't focus on the Enterprise crew – he thinks the Federation flagship should stick to the big screen – but on a new ship with a new crew and "an entirely new adventure."

So...is
Heroes back? Is it as good as it used to be? Beyond repair? Has it always been good and people are just too picky? Seems like fans (and non-fans) of the show all have opinions.
So does Bryan Fuller. He came back to the show after ABC canceled
Pushing Daisies, and while I have always liked the
Heroes, you can tell that the show has turned a corner in the past couple of episodes. The pace isn't break-neck anymore, the time traveling stuff has calmed down, and the storytelling is tighter.
Fuller is interviewed over at SciFiWire, and he talks about how he, as a fan, was frustrated with the way the show was going. He also drops a few spoilers for fans and explains his plans for what's in store for the last episodes of the season.

OK, OK, SPOILER ALERT!
There are still a bunch of episodes left in this third season of
Heroes, but producers and writers are already working on the fourth season (the show was
renewed by NBC for another season earlier this week). There isn't much being disclosed about specific plots or what is going to happen to specific characters or what characters are going to make it out alive from this third season (though I would assume The Hunter will be gone). But there is one big clue as to who won't be the major character that is going to die at the end of this season, and we'll discuss that a bit after the jump.

I should point out that when I say "coming back this summer" in the headline I mean that
ABC is bringing them back to burn off the remaining episodes that haven't aired yet. That's right, six months from now is the earliest you'll see any of these shows return. They could even come back later.
Pushing Daisies has three episodes left, while
Eli Stone and
Dirty Sexy Money each have four. Fans of these shows might not like this, but the truth is, the shows that have been in the time slots for these shows have actually done better in the ratings.

I don't know about you, but when creator Bryan Fuller talked about concluding all the story threads from
Pushing Daisies as a comic book, I was less than enthused. Now, however, I've got renewed hope.
No, ABC is not even mentioning bringing
Daisies back. They're not even committing to broadcasting the last few episodes. But
Kristin Chenoweth thinks Pushing Daisies might be a movie. That's right, the show could/would/should be wrapped up as a movie in her estimation.

It looks like Bryan Fuller feels bad for the cast of
Pushing Daisies, so now that he's returning to
Heroes later this year, he's decided to start bringing them with him. First up,
Swoosie Kurtz will be appearing in an episode in April written by Fuller himself. No word on whether the eye patch will be joining her. Considering the generational dynamic established on the show, Kurtz is a great casting choice. Her role will be that of an old society friend of Angela Petrelli. There's already a similarity to Kurtz' character on
Daisies and the way Cristine Rose plays Ma Petrelli.
While casting isn't usually a huge deal by itself, with the way
Heroes has been received this past year, any move on the beleaguered show is being scrutinized. People are cautiously optimistic that Fuller can reinvigorate the show, though why those people weren't watching
Daisies if they loved him so much I'll never know. And with a cast as huge as this, any addition is also scrutinized. Of course, for now this is a one-episode appearance, but Fuller has indicated it's being written in such a way that she could return.

For those of you who were expecting to turn on ABC tonight at 8pm and watch one of the last new episodes of
Pushing Daisies, don't bother.*
Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello reports that a new episode of
Pushing Daisies was indeed supposed to air tonight, but that ABC "pulled it at the last minute." Instead, they're repeating the two episodes of
Scrubs that ran ... last night.
Creator and producer Bryan Fuller (now
back on Heroes) says the remaining episodes "are not on the schedule right now ... and that's all we know." I guess there's a chance that all or some of the remaining episodes could be shown later, but there's probably an even better chance you'll have to watch them online or in the
Pushing Daisies: The Complete Second Season DVD.
*Unless, of course, you love ABC no matter what and want to watch what they do have on tonight: a special
20/20 at 9 and then Barbara Walters' interview with Patrick Swayze.

I'm sure that many of us could go round and round over the quality of the episodes in this latest chapter of Heroes. If you're following along with the weekly reviews, you've no doubt seen it play out in the comments. The thing that is a little harder to argue is the ratings. Over these last few months, the one time flagship NBC drama has seen its numbers drop to drastic levels. Put another way, if Heroes was a space ship, and dropping ratings signified an increase in speed, the show has gone plaid.

Brett already told you earlier today about the casting of
John Glover as Sylar's father on
Heroes. But there are many more changes coming to the NBC show.
Pushing Daisies creator/producer Bryan Fuller is back at the show. He worked on the show in the first season, and now he's coming back to work on it again starting with episode 19, a few episodes into the "Fugitives" chapter. In
this interview over at Entertainment Weekly, Fuller acknowledges that the show has had several problems the past year. He's well aware of them, and he has some ideas on how to fix it.

I would have used a headline like "
Pushing Daisies is living up to its name," but Joe Adalian of
TV Week sort of beat me to it...
According to Adalian, it looks like everyone's favorite cutsey-poo / maudlin-as-hell detective show,
Pushing Daisies, will be stopping production after it wraps its thirteenth episode this week. But that doesn't mean it's dead. ABC may extend the options on the major players in order to re-launch the show next fall, but that's a costly longshot on their part.
So, combine this scuttlebutt with Bryan Fuller's statement that
he'll go back to Heroes if PD is cancelled, his statement to a Paley Center audience that
he'd continue the storylines in a comic book if the show is gone, and the fact that a double-dose of
Scrubs is likely to take the show's timeslot in late January, and things aren't looking good for the crew at the Pie Hole.

Pushing Daisies fans, please note that I say IF. I even put it in capital letters!
There was talk that Bryan Fuller would be
asked by Tim Kring to return to Heroes after NBC told Kring to let two other producers on the show, Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb, go. Now
Fuller confirms that he will definitely go back to the show if
Pushing Daisies isn't picked up after the 13th episode of the series, which will be completed in January.
