Something about the syndicated
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire seems off this season. It might be the gimmicky "Tournament of Ten" that they've been building towards; it starts next week. Or it might be the bumped-up money tree they've instituted, paired with tougher questions; now it's easier to get the first safety level (now $5,000) but much more difficult to get to the second (still $25,000).
But what might also be off is that the producers have been mixing in some very young contestants into the show, and when they're on, the program screeches to a halt.
Why? They're too young. Even if they're the most book-smart kids on the planet, their knowledge of pop culture and historic events goes back maybe ten years, and those questions are a large part of the stack most contestants get.

(S09E02) And just like that, Clark Kent returned from the dead. And all it took was the impossibly astute observation of a homicidal cyborg.
It's a shame that Brian Austin Green's John Corben, aka Metallo, was relegated to freak of the week status. Seeing him stick around to possibly become Clark's rival at the Planet and on the mean streets of Metropolis would have been fun.
As he proved during his stint on
TSCC, Green's a talented guy who feels right at home kicking ass on a sci-fi show. He did a fine job here, even if the material he was given would make a Saturday morning cartoon script read like high art. But sadly, this ep was less about Metallo and more about Clark learning that dumping his friends and skulking on rooftops probably won't make him a better hero. (More on that in a sec.)

Well, the corpse has turned cold for only a second but already Brian Austin Green has gotten more work since the cancellation of
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Green's scheduled to play the villain Metallo for at least two upcoming episodes of
Smallville.
The man who was fighting cyborgs in a previous show is now playing one. Green must be a fan of sci-fi and comic books and the like since his recent roles reflect that.
I highly suspect that the upcoming season of
Smallville is its last, particularly given its new Friday night timeslot. The creators have already thrown a ton of villains at Clark that in theory he shouldn't be meeting until he becomes Superman.
In the comics, Metallo has a Kryptonite heart which powers his cybernetic body. Assuming the show continues that character trait (and it likely would), wouldn't anybody in proximity of Metallo suddenly gain super powers? I'm just saying.

Brian Austin Green won't be fighting Skynet or returning to prime time soaps next fall.
Last week,
we reported that the former
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles star was in talks to join the The CW teen drama
One Tree Hill. Nerds like me, who came to love Green as
TSCC's badass, cyborg-killing Derek Reese, were crushed. But it's time for those nerd hearts to heal. It turns out Green's reps didn't make a deal, and he won't be moving to
One Tree Hill.
Instead,
OTH has
turned to Lipstick Jungle's Robert Buckley, who recently showed up on the network's much-praised but still canceled drama
Privileged. Buckley will play the young, sexy sports agent role that was offered to Green.

Beverly Hills 90210 alum Brian Austin Green earned a number of new fans playing the tough, militaristic Derek Reese on
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Now, with
TSCC officially canceled, Green is heading back to the world of prime time soaps. The actor is currently in talks to
join the cast of The CW's One Tree Hill.
According to
Variety, Green will potentially play a sports agent who is "enjoying the spoils that come from being a wealthy, handsome single guy" on the veteran drama.
It looks like One
Tree Hill might be looking to Green to fill a void left by the departures of stars Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton. Green certainly has Murray beat in the charisma department, and I'm sure the show's fans -- I assume they are mostly young women -- will welcome him with open arms. But I can't help but feel disappointed by this news.

Yeah, I know you thought
The Sarah Connor Chronicles was canceled, but we've yet to hear anything official from Fox concerning the show's future. Series writer
Ashley Edward Miller and creator Josh Friedman used Twitter this week to debunk
Michael Ausiello's claim that the show is toast, and star
Brian Austin Green seems hopeful about a third season happening.
I love the show, but like I said in my review of last week's season finale, the chances of a third season are slim to none. Even the high
DVR ratings might not save it. But Fox hasn't terminated
TSCC yet, and there's still a chance we might get to see that third season featuring (SPOILER HERE!) John Connor living in the post-Judgement Day future.
If a third season does happen, there's a good chance we'll see a lot more of Jonathan Jackson as John Connor's dad, Kyle Reese.

Terminator's Brian Austin Green is hoping to land a primo gig in what could be the next big geek-friendly movie franchise.
Green is campaigning for the role of Hal Jordan, aka The Green Lantern, in the upcoming
Green Lantern film. The actor told
Comic Book Resources that he was inspired to campaign for the role after seeing a fan-made picture depicting him as the DC Comics hero.
Some people might not agree, but I think Green has become a pretty good actor post
-90210. His comic performance was the only thing that made Freddie Prinze Jr's awful sitcom,
Freddie, watchable, and he was pitch-perfect as Derek Reese on
Terminator.
I'm not sure if he's right for Hal Jordan, but he's about the right age and he has the right look. Plus, I'd rather see him wear the ring than one of those Disney Channel moppets
.

(S02E21) Wow. Just, wow! This was one of the best episodes of the season. It was also one of the most heartbreaking episodes of the entire series.
I loved everything about this ep -- the pacing, the storytelling, and the surprises. It was all great. But did I mention the heartbreak? Click through for the spoils.

(S02E15) Have you ever been to a funeral? They're not usually very thrilling. All that awkward silence, standing around, and the hard-to-watch mourning will deflate anyone's day. So why set an episode of
Sarah Connor at a funeral?
I guess the writers wanted to remind us about the Skynet war death toll. It's high. We get it. Can we move on now?

(S02E12) One of the major differences between this television series and the movie upon which its based is that time travel in this series is more complicated than anybody in the movie universe could have imagined. That is probably one of the reasons why the show has adopted such an unusual method of telling a story as of recent.
Mind you, time jumps and parallel storytelling is not a new method. I think
Pulp Fiction started the craze and the show
Lost has pretty much been built on such a concept. However, in this instance the three separate stories involving past, present and future (or perhaps more accurately cause and effect) tied into one instance. There is even a parallel to John Connor himself (who played a virtually non-existent role this episode) when the baby Sydney born at the end (although fully grown in the future-flashes) became the savior of humanity. If John Connor is supposed to be a modern take on Jesus Christ, who would Sydney be? I liked how they ended the show with Sydney's birth, an experience your average story tends to associate with hope.
I got a laugh when the Fields named the dog Charles Barkley. Get it? "Bark"ley? This show does a lot of play on words.

(S02E11) If ever the show
Cold Case did an episode involving killer robots from the future, it would be tonight's
Sarah Connor Chronicles. The reverse is also true.
Cameron certainly earned her "most efficient killing machine on the planet" title tonight. And she didn't even have to do laundry. Obviously, the mystery of her constant attendance at the hall of records at night is not going to be solved this episode (since it was only brought up this episode). The real mystery is what happened to Eric at the end? Did he succumb to his cancer? Did he take sick leave? Did he just up and quit? I wouldn't mind knowing.
This episode was entirely
Summer Glau, and she was brilliant in it. I think this is her best acting on the show to date. John Connor did play a minor role in the B plot with some development of his relationship with Riley (who is, at this point, either playing with his head, insane or both).

(S02E10) The nice thing about being a Terminator and dying is that provided the body isn't destroyed, you could always come back. Although how Cromartie came back at the end was a bit of a shocker.
My review is going to ramble somewhat. I'm writing this after imbibing some rum. It's what separates us from the machines.
Come on, people. When Ellison saw Cameron stick the metal pole into the ground, you'd think he'd be somewhat suspicious. Perhaps that will be a plot point later.
