Jennie Garth will be part of the 90210 spin-off

Jennie GarthActress Jennie Garth, who portrayed Kelly Taylor in almost 300 episodes of the hit series Beverly Hills, 90210, will appear on the series' spin-off set to premiere this coming fall season on The CW. The actress, who will appear in a recurring capacity on the spin-off, will reprise the same role that helped put her on the map in the 1990s.

It's not unusual to see original cast members make their way in spin-offs. And when said spin-offs have teens attending school, it's a regular occurrence to see the original cast member be part of the school's staff. Kelly Taylor is no exception here. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Kelly Taylor will become a guidance counselor at West Beverly Hills High. Nothing more is known at this point about the character and if other 90210 original cast members will join her on the show.

Jennie Garth was also part of the cast of What I Like About You and of Season 5 of Dancing with the Stars.

The Wire's Tristan Wilds lands 90210 role

Tristan WildsIt's a step up from Baltimore. Tristan Wilds, who played Michael on The Wire, is playing the male lead in the 90210 spinoff. Wilds will take on the role of Dixon, the adopted son of the Harry and Celia Mills. The Mills family is shaping up to be much more entertaining than the Walshes. Jessica Walter and Lori Loughlin have already been cast as the grandmother and mother, respectively. I can't wait to see Michael having family dinner with Lucille Bluth and Becky from Full House.

In other 90210 casting news, Michael Steger is playing Navid, producer of the West Beverly High's TV news show. I'm not familiar with Steger, but I'm thrilled that Wilds is returning to TV.

Jason Priestley says no to dancing, maybe to 90210

Jason PriestleyThe new Beverly Hills 90210 is busy casting and coming together, but it doesn't seem like any of the stars from the original Fox hit will be involved. Don't look for Brandon Walsh among the characters, at least not with the man who created him. Jason Priestley admits that nobody from the new 90210 has even contacted him about an appearance. In a brief interview with momlogic.com, Jason said, "I'm certainly open to it. I loved working on that show. I loved everything I did on that show. I had so many jobs on that show, I loved it so."

On the other hand, Priestley makes it abundantly clear that he has no interest in following in the dancing footsteps of two of his 90210 castmates, Ian Ziering and Jennie Garth, by joining Dancing With the Stars. He just can't dance and he makes no bones about his inability to do a Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly turn. His hobby is on the race track, not the dance floor.

Jessica Walter joins the 90210 cast

Jessica WalterThe Beverly Hills 90210 spin off was looking for an actress in her 60's who could play an actress and alcoholic. Who better for the role than Arrested Development's Jessica Walter? After all, she is an actress and her AD role of Lucille Bluth required that she pretends to be drinking/drunk in a lot of episodes!

TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly confirmed earlier today that the actress was cast in the lead role of Tabitha Mills, an actress who had her career prime in the 70s and who is now best friends with a liquor bottle. Worried about his mother's well-being, her son Harry moves his family to Beverly Hills.

Lori Loughlin joins 90210 spin off

Lori LoughlinThe Berverly Hills, 90210 spin off found its mother! TV Guide's Michael Ausiello reports that Full House's Lori Loughlin was cast as Celia Mills, "an ex-Olympic athlete who relocates to Beverly Hills with her husband and two children."

As we revealed about a month ago, 90210 version 2.0 will revolve around the Mills family, which relocates to Beverly Hills so the patriarch can take care of his movie star mother who just fell off the wagon. Supposedly, he'll get a job as Beverly Hills High new principal.

Casting for the new 90210: Hilary Duff?

Hilary Duff Hilary Duff is the new Patrick Stewart. By that, I mean it's rumored that she is going to be the star of Beverly Hills 90210, the Next Generation (Please note this is not the actual title. Just my take on it).

Apparently, she's been approached by the CW for the role of Annie Mills, a high school girl into theater, boys, cars, iPods, cosmetic surgery, ostracizing her friends and all the other standard things that Beverly Hills girls are into. There is no word yet on whether she's accepted the role.

Eight signs from television that you are getting old - VIDEOS

This young Starship Captain is now 77-years-oldLet's face it, we get old. Some of us live a long and glorious life, dying happily in our sleep next to the 26-year-old Penthouse Pet of the Month who is just with our wrinkled old selves because we have money. Others live to the ripe old age of 30 and have a wonderful Lastday ceremony. It really doesn't matter...we get old one way or another.

Most of us try not to admit we are getting old. We use dyes, we have surgeries to move things around, and we pump ourselves with poison so our faces to retain that wonder wax museum sheen. Yet, there are those occasions where you hear about something that triggers that little part of your brain that makes you want to whip out the Bran Flakes and prunes. Here are just a few television-related events that may just have you looking for retirement communities in Florida.

Monk star Stanley Kamel dead at 65

Stanley KamelStanley Kamel, who played Dr. Charles Kroger on the USA hit series Monk, was found dead in his Hollywood house earlier today. No cause of death has been announced yet. He was 65.

Kamel has had an incredibly long career in TV and the movies. He was a regular on such series as Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, Murder One, L.A. Rob Thomas gets yet another pilot pickup

Rob ThomasIs that a throne Rob Thomas is sitting on? Seems like he's quickly becoming King of TV! The prolific scribe is quite literally sitting in the catbird seat. ABC has just greenlit another Rob Thomas pilot, that's his third -- but who's counting? It follows ABC's resurrection of Cupid and a Beverly Hills, 90210 spinoff for the CW. The latest Rob Thomas opus is an import based on the New Zealand TV series Outrageous Fortune.

Outrageous Fortune is a one-hour dramedy is about a family of criminals. When the father is jailed for four years, the matriarch declares that it's time for the family to go straight. Thomas has written the pilot and will act as executive producer, along with John Barnett, Michael Larkin, Michael Goldstein, Bruce Cervi and John Lansing.

90210 getting a spin-off

Beverly Hills 90210Schools in! For 11 seasons, Beverly Hills 90210, was a ratings hit and trend-setting youth soap opera for Fox. Now, a mere eight years later, the CW will spin-off Beverly Hills 90210, coming up with a contemporary version of the well-loved, if corny, teen drama.

The original, executive produced by the late Aaron Spelling, and created by Darren Star (Cashmere Mafia). The new CW version is not connected to Star. Rob Thomas, who created Veronica Mars, has been approached to take on the project.

Some big actor-to-character age differences on TV

cast of 90210How good are you at spotting someone's true age? There's been a few times I've caught myself wondering how old that actor really is on TV, when they're playing someone my age and look ten years older. Do I really look that good? Then again, I've seen the opposite and thought, "damn, I am an old decrepit fart." In any case, I'll pull up IMDb and usually find myself in shock of how young/old the actor on-screen really is.

The whole actor-to-character age ratio thing got me curious, so I did a little research (with the help of some of the TV Squad team) and made a list of some of the more extreme and well-known (or, maybe to some, not-so-well-known) examples. By the way, we didn't include actors who played flashback scenes of their characters for short periods of time, as there are more of those than we have room for.

Only 344 days left until Lifetime's next Christmas movie

Joanna GarciaYou might want to make a note of this because it's gonna be a long time before you see it. Lifetime wants us to know there's been some major casting done on their holiday-themed movie A Very Merry Daughter of the Bride. Luke Perry, JoAnna Garcia, Helen Shaver and Kenneth Welsh have all jumped on board the film, which is cleverly scheduled to air in December 2008. I wish they'd give me a date because I really need to schedule a hair appointment that night.

It looks like it's the story of a daughter (Garcia) who disapproves of her mother's (Shaver) upcoming nuptials and so enlists the groom's (Welsh) son (Perry) to try and persuade the pair to not wed. But the groom's son is Luke Perry, and this movie's on Lifetime so I think we all know what happens. And then Judith Light makes a cameo appearance as an empowered woman who survived an abusive past to become a stronger person (Okay, not really but you believed me for a minute there). I'm ashamed to admit it, but I'm weeping a bit right now just thinking about how touching it all is. I mean trying to break up your parents' wedding; what spells H-O-L-I-D-A-Y-S better than that!

Now Ian Ziering has auditioned for The Price Is Right?!

Ian ZieringMario Lopez...George Hamilton...Mark Steines...and now Ian Ziering? Are the producers serious about keeping The Price Is Right going, or are they just trying to find a way to end the show now that Bob Barker has left?

Yup, the former Beverly Hills, 90210 and Dancing with the Stars star (and I'll always remember him from The Guiding Light many years ago) auditioned for the gig last week. So the list seems to actually be growing. Besides the names above, don't forget John O'Hurley, Todd Newton, and The Early Show's Dave Price, who should insist on the job since he has the right name for it.

Oh, and Rosie O'Donnell is meeting with producers this week. Radar has a sneak peek at what a Rosie-hosted TPIR might be like.
