Tim Allen's scary Internet avatar

The very scary Avatar from Timallen.comA few weeks ago, while doing some research on stand-up comedians who became sitcom stars, I ended up Googling a whole bunch of names to get some additional pre-television history on them. One of these was Home Improvement's Tim Allen. While looking up Tim's information I came upon a listing for his personal website. It was a weird listing though -- something like Tim Allen -- T'Avatar. Well, since I know Tim's not a Romulan, I thought this was just an abbreviation of something. Needless to say I clicked in.

Turns out, T'Avatar was short for Tim Allen's Avatar, which appears in an opening video to his website. Folks, this Avatar freaks the living piss out of me.

Create your own Simpsons avatar

the simpsonsI'm embarrassed to admit that I'm totally buying into all this merchandising for The Simpsons Movie. I've already been to two different 7-Elevens for Buzz Cola, Krusty O's, and a Squishee (man, those things are sugary).

And I just spent a significant amount of time on The Simpsons movie promotion site, which includes an avatar creator. And we all like these goofy programs, don't we? It's a good way to kill a couple of hours on a Sunday, making avatars of yourself, your friends, and random celebrities (my attempt at a Brad Pitt avatar was a little pathetic).

The program asks you to login and register, but you don't have to. It's only if you want to 'Save' your avatar. I just finished mine and took a screen grab of it. 'Cuz I'm out of ideas for fake e-mail addresses.

YouTube meets MySpace on new MTV website, channel

mtv logoMTV is reaching out to the... uh... MTV generation with a new social networking website with accompanying television channel. The highlight of the website will be user-generated video clips and messages. On it, people can request music videos to be played (they still do that?), send on-screen messages via cell phone, and chat with each other through avatars. Basically, it's a user-generated television channel.

This is definitely for the video game generation. I already can't keep up with MTV when it scrolls messages across the screen over the rare music video. The new channel and website are called Flux. The website launches Tuesday, August 1st while the channel launches in September.
