When I received my copy of
The Office season five DVD in the mail, the first thing I noticed was that there may or may not be a Golden Ticket enclosed that would win me a trip to Hollywood. I tore into the packaging, and saw that I had not, in fact, won. So, this DVD set sucks. THE END.
...Okay, I've been informed that I won't get paid unless I tell you about what's actually on the DVDs. So, let's get to that.
The short version of the story is, the folks who make
The Office DVDs do so with fans in mind. They are not creating merely a collection of episodes: They chock the DVDs full of enough extras and other goodies to make buying the DVDs preferable to say, buying a season pass on iTunes or just not erasing the season's episodes off of your DVR.

When
Andy Richter left
Late Night With Conan O'Brien to establish his own career in acting, nobody knew that he'd come full circle and rejoin O'Brien years later. At the same time, nobody knew that creator
Victor Fresco would do much the same thing.
Andy Richter Controls the Universe was one of those quirky shows that most people, who enjoy a dash of nonsense in their comedy, really dug. It was a very playful show about a guy working in a massive company. It featured a small ensemble with great chemistry on-screen, and had a unique look at big corporations.
A few years later, Fresco tapped that well again, and we got
Better Off Ted, another comedy with absurdist tendencies set in a massive corporation with a small cast. Like
Andy, it eked out a second season based more on critical acclaim than ratings. As someone who enjoys both shows, I find myself worrying that
Ted will share
Andy's ultimate fate, cancellation after the second season.

I love Andy Richter, but he seems awfully stiff every time I watch him on
The Tonight Show. I prefer to remember the guy from his early days on
Late Night, his short-lived show
Andy Richter Controls the Universe, and his other short-lived show, the hilarious
Andy Barker, P.I.
Like Danny reported
back in May,
Andy Barker, P.I. is finally coming to DVD. Shout! Factory will release the entire series on Nov. 17. The two-disc set will include all six episodes, some with commentary by Richter and producer Conan O'Brien, plus a retrospective feature and a doc about the show's amazing writers, including Jonathan Groff (
How I Met Your Mother), Josh Bycel (
Psych), and Jane Espenson (
Buffy,
BSG). Click through for a better look at the DVD cover art.

Does your ride lack a certain something that all good cars should possess, like brakes?
When you drive to work, do the ambulances and fire trucks pull over to the shoulder to let you pass?
Is your vehicle so old that Jesus co-signed the lease?
Maybe it's time you traded that clunker in, not for a bounced government check or another clunker some guy in a $1,000 suit conned you into buying. Maybe it's time you traded it in for two pounds of C4 and 30 spools of Primacord.
Conan O'Brien premiered on last night's
Tonight Show the funniest car related sweepstakes since AMC tried to give away a Pacer: one lucky American will get
to blow up their car on national television.

Have you been anxiously awaiting the return of Conan O'Brien and company to late night television? Are you tossing and turning each night because you are lacking your nightly dose of string dancing? Do you find it impossible to get through the day without knowing if Conzie will return to television as the Conzie we all know and love and are thinking of seeking professional help?
Thankfully, I've got the cure. Seek professional help. Make sure he prescribes some strong brain juice for you too, something you have to inject with a syringe.
A recent
Ain't It Cool News report says that test shows of Conan's new
Tonight Show are underway this week. And the reviews are overwhelmingly positive if you're a big fan of Conan's old
Late Night show.

The DVD shelves have become a heaven of forgotten shows that barely saw the light of day.
Get ready to welcome one that got less sunlight than your goth cousin gets in a year.
The Late Night Insider blog, the underground blog of the former
Late Night with Conan O'Brien, reported that O'Brien and former and returning sidekick Andy Richter are recording commentary tracks for a new
Andy Barker P.I. DVD.

The folks at our sister site
Cinematical are working hard to give you news and reviews of the best -- and worst -- the silver screen has to offer. Here are some of their musings on the latest blockbusters, indies, and everything in between:
- I have Verizon FiOS at home, and when I watch any On Demand ABC show, they play the same trailer of Race to Witch Mountain during every commercial break. It has made me hate the idea of this movie more than anything. You can see if it's actually any good by checking out Cinematical's review of Race to Witch Mountain.
- I don't really like the idea of movies being turned into Broadway musicals, so I don't know what to think about Heathers getting the musical treatment. It could be the worst idea ever, but on the other hand, putting "I love my dead gay son" to music? May be brilliant.
- Hey, Watchmen nerds; you should appreciate this: A round-up of Watchmen-related humor.
- Well, they said that this Andy Richter car commercial would probably be better suited for TV Squad, so here you go.
- Some of these were funny, but some just made me sick for no reason. Cinematical Seven looks at the most pointlessly disgusting scenes in movies.

Here's some good news for people who have missed Andy Richter since he stopped being Conan O'Brien's sidekick nine years ago: NBC just announced that he's signed on to be
the announcer of The Tonight Show when Conan takes it over in June.
Now, this doesn't mean that we'll see Andy on the couch next to Conan, as he was in
Late Night's early years. He's the announcer; think of what John Melendez does for Leno and add the fact that, you know, Andy actually has comedic talent. Richter will announce the show and participate in both live and pre-taped comedy bits.
For fans of Andy Richter the actor, though, this isn't good news. After starring in two very funny failed sitcoms,
Andy Richter Controls the Universe and
Andy Barker, P.I., it seems like his returning to the daily Conan fold would preclude him from starring in another one anytime soon. But that also means he won't star in another
Quintuplets, either, so maybe this is a good idea.

Conan O'Brien's final
Late Night ended on a bold note, one that didn't involve animals doing things that would get humans arrested or Abe Vigoda being the best damn Abe Vigoda he can be. In fact, the only way it was remotely funny is if you are one of those douchebags who heckles a comic for building a serious moment or still thinks yelling "Do 'Freebird'!" in between songs at a concert is funny. You know who you are.
It was a serious and heartfelt moment for a show that some naysayers claim is already too silly and asinine for its audience. He put these stuck-up snobs in their rightful place and taught all who watched an important lesson about being true to yourself, especially in the face of those who say it's a big mistake.
And this from a show that features a bear that masturbates on cue. Suck on that, Hallmark Channel.

(S02E13) Memo to NBC: Idea for
product placement on
Chuck. All the computers and cell phones are great, but what about Excedrin, Tylenol or Advil? In this episode alone, Chuck's brain activated the Intersect so many times that he should have needed something extra strength to deal with the killer headache he had to have had when he finally got out of the top secret Fulcrum initiation lab. I was ready to reach for two tablets myself, what with all the flashing and colors and weird old stock footage.
Anyway, this was the Happy Valentine's Day show, which is why last week's pre-empted episode was re-slotted so this one could land in closer proximity to the holiday. It made sense, then, for there to be some good Chuck and Sarah flirting. Not flirting with each other, just flirting with the idea of them flirting with a real relationship. It looked good there for a while. More after the jump.

You've been putting off this moment for years. You've been denying yourself the courage to face the oncoming reality that not even God Himself can stop. You've pushed this little feeling to the deepest part of your brain so you wouldn't have to face it.
This week marks the end of Conan O'Brien's long running
Late Night show and even
the Big Giant Head has been putting off the inevitable by waiting until the last possible minute to pack up his things.
His final show in the time slot he has held for 16 years will have its final string dance on Friday, Feb. 20. He won't return to our eyeballs for at least another four months.
Jimmy Fallon, meanwhile, takes over his slot in March.

With seven separate nominations in the Guest Actor and Actress categories, it's hard to believe that any
30 Rock guest stars were left off this year's list. The men nearly swept the nominees list for Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, earning four of the five available spots. The ladies made up half of the Guest Actress category; not bad!
Still, a few brilliant and hilarious performances were left out. You can't argue with
nominations for Will Arnett and Elaine Stritch, but I'd swap one or two of the nominees with a few of my own favorites. Check out my list of overlooked
30 Rock guest stars after the jump. And yes, I left out
Jerry Seinfeld. Emmy got that one right.

While Amy Poehler has had steady work both on and off the stage of Saturday Night Live over the last few years it looks like she may be moving up to "big time" status along with former SNL cast mate Tina Fey. And, it might all begin this weekend. Not only is she starring with Fey in the movie Baby Mama, which is being released today (and is expected to be the box office champ, despite mixed reviews), Poehler also has a new cartoon premiering on Nickelodeon.
The Mighty B, which premieres Saturday at 10:30 AM, features Amy as the voice of Bessie Higgenbottom. Bessie is world's most ambitious Honeybee scout in the known universe. She wears her uniform all of the time, leads her troop with a military-like zeal, and has the most badges than any other Honeybee in history. But, she wants to earn all of the Honeybee badges, and she's determined to earn them. Sometimes she imagines herself as the superheroine The Mighty B, to help her through the tasks that will earn her another badge.

Oh,
come on!
NBC
has canceled Andy Barker, P.I. After airing only four episodes, the network sent the remaining two episodes to Saturdays and
Scrubs will air in its place starting this Thursday night (that was already the plan, it's just happening earlier).
This is so depressing. Did anybody see the chicken episode two weeks ago? I howled with laughter over that one. Admittedly, last week's episode wasn't that great. According to
The Futon Critic,
Barker had its lowest ratings last week with 1.8. I'd like to know what kind of numbers NBC had on its website, where it posted all six episodes of
Andy Barker for free before it even premiered on the network.
I just knew that it wasn't going to survive because A) Andy Richter is cursed, B) People wouldn't get it, and C) NBC wasn't going to give it a chance. You have to watch closely to see past the main story of Andy, the naive CPA-turned private investigator and find the humor in the supporting characters. Tony Hale as a video store geek and Marshall Manesh as an Afghani restaurant owner had hilarious lines, but maybe they weren't obvious enough to people.
