Hardcore Stephen Colbert fans might take one look at this list and scoff. To them I say, "Hey, girls who live on the
Colboards, chill out." This list is meant for the casual fan of
The Colbert Report, who loves the show and, at most, knows Colbert's history through
The Daily Show and maybe a little
Strangers with Candy.
As someone who has been a fan of Colbert for about eight years, I'm here to educate, here to spread the good Word. It is the duty of a good fan -- especially one with too much time on her hands -- to change the minds of people that see Colbert just as the TV blowhard who happens to share his name.

Jenna Fischer: This is one of those "I've arrived!" moments. Seriously. There's, like, little milestones... Like, being on David Letterman for the first time and then, like, being in
Vanity Fair.
Chelsea Handler: ... I knew I arrived when I got my period.
Everyone: [groans and laughter]
Yeah, I know how most of our male readers are. They like their ladies funny, smart, and painfully out of their league. Well, start lurking around the magazine stands, boys, because the upcoming
Vanity Fair has a new Annie Leibovitz photo spread featuring
some of the funniest ladies on the scene. The impressive list boasts Sandra Bernhard, Susie Essman, Tina Fey, Jenna Fischer, Chelsea Handler, Leslie Mann, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Amy Sedaris, Sarah Silverman, Wanda Sykes, and Kristen Wiig, each of them doing very typical "Hollywood bad girl" things. I especially love Maya Rudolph's hair and how Silverman manages to do Amy Winehouse better than Amy Winehouse.

Before we knew him as a correspondent on The Daily Show, Mr. Noblet on Strangers with Candy, and later the star of his own faux news analyst program, The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert was just another sketch player on shows like Exit 57 and the Dana Carvey Show. Colbert starred on the short-lived Exit 57 with Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello, who would later re-team with him for Strangers with Candy. After the jump, see a younger Colbert and his future Daily Show co-worker Steve Carell playing waiters made sick by the mere mention of food on the Dany Carvey Show, and then watch a clip from Exit 57 with Colbert, Dinello and Sedaris that I can't really describe, except to say you get to see Colbert and Dinello makeout with one another. Mmmm, that's tasty.
Check out the vids after the jump.

(S02E04) Although I am a big fan of this show, I was never high on the Randy character. Except for a few moments here and there, I thought his non-sequitors and otherwise sheer "dumbness" brought each episode down or notch or two. That is, until last night's episode, where Randy shined like the noonday sun.
I mentioned in an earlier post where I expected to see more character development this season, and we're already seeing it with a good chunk of time devoted to Joy and Catalina. However, last night we saw the spotlight on Randy, and we learned that despite his "Baby Huey" persona on the outside, he really is a sensitive soul looking for love and respect. (Aren't we all, on some level?)

The lovely and hilarious Amy Sedaris will be playing a role on the October 12 episode of
My Name if Earl as a love interest for Randy. Amy will play Judy, a woman who loves cats. This turns out to be somewhat of an obstacle for Randy because he's allergic to felines. Meanwhile, Earl tries to return a prize cat to Judy after sabotaging a cat show to help Joy. I personally never watch
My Name is Earl, though I did watch it a bit when it first aired, and even though network sitcoms ain't m' thang I'll contend it was better than most of what's out there. Being an Amy fan, though, I just might have to tune in for this episode. Who knows, maybe I'll get drawn back into the show again.

I would watch Amy Sedaris do anything. If she was in a music video featuring Kevin Federline and Nancy Grace, I would watch MTV all day long until the video came on. If she wanted to just go on TV and sit in a chair and eat a bowl of cereal, I would set my TiVo season pass for it. In short, I've had a crush on Amy Sedaris since...well, forever.
So that's why I really enjoyed this, her appearance on Sesame Street last week. She played Snow White, looking for Sesame Street. I have to admit though, Elmo's voice gets really annoying really quickly. Part 2 of the show is on the menu to the left, along with Sedaris' appearances on The Colbert Report, The Late Show With David Letterman, and other shows.
Does Sesame Street always have jokes about burping and cheese in shoes?

Orlando (Jerri's Filipino friend): You should run for Homecoming queen, Jerri.
Jerri: What? Are you joking? I don't think I'm what boys consider a "traditional beauty."
Orlando: In my country you'd be a real queen.
Jerri: Yeah, well, that's because your country is ruled by monkeys.
Orlando: Jerri, that's an ugly thing to say.
Jerri: Jeez, why are you people so sensitive about your resemblance to monkeys? They're adorable!
This episode begins with a game of dodgeball and Jerri having to sit out the game because of uneven teams. Also, it seems her teammates would rather have a slow girl with two broken arms play with them rather than Jerri. Despite not actually playing, Jerri manages to get hit with the ball, prompting Yasmine, a popular girl, to remark that Jerri is probably used to balls smacking against her face.

Because of Bob's
slavish devotion to her, I knew that Amy Sedaris was going to be on Letterman last night promoting
Strangers with Candy. Because of my own
little crush on her, I tuned in to see her all-too-short segment (I mean, really, Dave; I know he just won the NBA championship and all, but... Dwayne Wade? Two segments of Amy would have made for better TV. And Dwayne... when you're going on a talk show, wear some long pants, OK, buddy?). Of course Amy was manically funny, as usual, telling stories and throwing out her celebrity "faces" (I especially liked her Streisand). I laughed out loud a number of times.
When her segment was over, I started flipping around. I hit Jimmy Kimmel's show and -- oh, my -- saw one of my
other TV crushes...
Bonnie Hunt! This was completely unexpected. She was on promoting
Cars, and she started launching into stories about how she and her brother laughed at her father's funeral, how her dad would rib her mom, how her mom repairs the toilet, and what it's like to work with Kimmel's brother. All of this seemed unplanned (Bonnie even said "I can't believe I'm talking about this," a couple of times), not the usual "interview-by-numbers" that is set up by the pre-interviewing process. And it was very entertaining.
Oh, did I say that both Bonnie and Amy looked absolutely lovely last night? Wow. Not a bad way to end a pretty stressful day.

Wait, some of you are saying, don't you mean Amy Sedaris, the woman who
played Jerri Blank on Strangers with Candy? The same Amy Sedaris who had been doing an advice column
for the magazine for some time now? Well, yes, I was. Except I'm not. Maybe. Kind of? Anyway, here's what The
Believer has on its site: "Amy Sedaris remains on sabbatical from her column-writing duties, but
she’s just announced that Jerri Blank has agreed to take over Sedaratives for the summer." They're looking
for people to write in who want advice on drugs, prostitution, being a total slut -- you know, stuff Jerri knows a lot
about. If you have a problem you want Jerri to answer, send them to sedaratives@believermag.com. As anyone who saw the Strangers with
Candy episode "Ask Jerri" knows, this woman knows how to provide sage advice to her readers, even if it
might result in teenage pregnancy and the attempted murder of your lover.

Stephen Colbert's
The Colbert
Report is going extremely well and now, following in the footsteps of Bill "Papa Bear" O'Reilly and Jon
Stewart (plus his team of
Daily Show writers), Colbert will
publish his thoughts in book-form so everyone can finally
see Dickens isn't so hot after all. Mr. Colbert has signed a deal with Warner Books to pen a book under his cocky,
know-it-all
Colbert Report persona. The deal is speculated to be in the seven-figure range (ooh). He has
previously contributed to books such as
America (The Book) but expects to fly solo with this upcoming
project.
I'm sure he will find success in this new venture, but I guarantee he will reach absolute literary
super stardom (and possibly gain even a Pulitzer or two) once he gets around to publishing
Stephen Colbert’s Alpha Squad 7: Lady Nocturne: A
Tek Jansen Adventure.

AmySedaris.com, the unofficial official site of Amy Sedaris, writes that the woman herself says the
Strangers
with Candy movie will in fact see the light of day in June of this year. Right now, that's all she's a-sayin'. I
wish I had more to report to you, but we should all just rejoice that we're going to get to spend at least a few more
moments with the students and faculty of Flatpoint High. According to the
IMDb page for the movie, there's going to be a slew of
cameos. I have high hopes for this one, and a more realistic outlook that it'll be a very limited release.
