Within a few weeks,
All My Children will be turning over a new leaf, officially making the move west to new studios in Los Angeles. Most actors are making the move. Some are not. And today
ABC informed the head writer, Charles Pratt Jr., that he's been let go. If he had his suitcases packed, well, sorry about that.
Chuck Pratt was hired with some fanfare in June 2008. He was a big hire because his resume is filled with flashy successes, including
Desperate Housewives, Melrose Place, Beverly Hills 90210, Ugly Betty, Santa Barbara and
General Hospital, among others. Pratt was supposed to revive
All My Children to its former luster, but -- alas -- it hasn't happened.

If you were to take the collective temperature of the loyal viewers of
The Young and the Restless, the number one daytime drama in the Nielsen ratings for 20 years in a row, you would learn that the fans are hot! They are steamed and fuming and ready to boil over with rage. What's got so many people so incensed? Well, it might be easy to say it's
Y&R's recent baby-switch story line -- where Sharon's baby was taken from her and given to Ashley, with neither woman aware of the crime committed against them -- but it's actually more than that.
Y&R fans are up in arms over happenings on screen and off. The very idea that Eric Braeden is leaving the show, that the character of
Victor Newman is going to be killed off, has been a shock. After the near exit of Melody Thomas Scott and Jess Walton recently, it appears as though the foundation of the show -- the most integral characters and the actors who play them -- are being destroyed. Fans are wondering what the powers that be are doing to "their" show!

Last night Adam won $500,000 on
Big Brother 9. Now, I know I heard Julie Chen tell them she'd be giving Adam his check and Ryan his winnings of $50,000 on
The Early Show as is the standard practice. So, I turned on TV as I was heading out the door to my day job only to hear them say that Julie Chen has the day off today. Huh? I didn't bother recording as they didn't mention
BB9 at all.
But there they were -- taped after the finale last night. I found
the video of the interview on the CBS website. It's not embeddable, but if you follow me after the jump, I'll bring up some of the main points ... or, at least the ones I found interesting!

(
S09E11) Expect the unexpected. Those of you who are dedicated
BB fans know this phrase all too well. It could mean that your ex-boyfriend is getting thrown in the house with you. It could mean that your estranged father is one of your fellow houseguests. It could mean that your nemesis who you campaigned against is getting another chance at the
Big Brother crown. Last night we evicted another houseguest, found out what the siren meant, and got a new HOH all in one hour. It's not going to be a really short season of
BB after all!
A review of last night's
Big Brother 9 follows after the jump...

(
S09E06) "Cups are a very essential part of life, ya know. We use 'em for drinkin' and what not."
--Matt on Big Brother taking away all the drinking cups in the house after last week's HOH competitionDo you see how much vital information you can learn from CBS's
Big Brother 9? Did you know about the power of the drinking cup before this? I didn't. The cup and his brethren, the glass, have taken on a whole new meaning for me. Matt, you have officially rocked my world. Matt also told us to never trust anyone with pink hair. Wonder who he's referring to?
More of Matt's nuggets and a recap of last night's
Big Brother 9 is after the jump.

Geeks get treated pretty badly in the media. Thanks to the fact that most people who get above-the-line credit in Hollywood are anything but geeky, when a script calls for a socially maladjusted character, it's almost always a terrible caricature of true geek culture. For years little geeklings only had the likes of Steve Urkel to look up to and that's not right (believe me,
Jaleel White, when the geek revolution comes, you'll be the first one guillotined).
The fact that I'm about to become the father of my own little geek-spawn has led me to start looking around the current TV landscape, looking for appropriate geek role models. I was surprised to find so many...

If you're a fan of the Discovery Channel series Mythbusters, then you know who Buster is. He's the resident dummy on the program, the lifeless model who gets shot, stabbed, blown up, dismembered, and has all kinds of other nasty stuff done to him in the name of myth debunking (or proving).
Recently, the gang at Mythbusters decided to let Buster speak his first words, and they asked fans to submit lines. Now, you can go here and vote for which line is your favorite. Buster will utter the winning line just before he's smashed to pieces in an upcoming "car myth" episode. The site doesn't specify which episode, though, so I guess you'll just have to watch. The series airs Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m.

Christ, I had to do one of these "All I Want for Festivus" posts last year and I couldn't think of anything to write about back then, either.
Here's the thing: I'm pretty content when it comes to what television offers these days, and now that so many television shows are being offered through iTunes and for free online, it's easier than ever to ignore what I don't like and just enjoy what I want.

Ever since getting a Tivo a little over a year ago, I no longer watch TV shows when they actually air. When I'm not catching up with what's on my recorder, I'm either reading, listening to podcasts, or pounding out a blog post about what I'm watching on television. The big deletion from my Tivo Season Pass this year is House. I still admire the show, but for me the magic is gone. The season opener sat on my Tivo for quite a few days, unwatched. When I finally sat down to view it I realized, about fifteen minutes into it, that I had completely lost interest in it. I didn't even finish the episode, and took it off my Tivo for good. Perhaps my attitude will change in the coming weeks, but who knows? Anyway, some of these shows are winding down their current seasons, some have yet to air. All times are Central because I live in Minnesota.

(S01E07) For a
couple of episodes now The Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) and Rose (Billie Piper) have been slumming around our humble
planet Earth in about a one hundred year time span. This episode we get off of good ol' Terra to a satellite hovering
around the planet in the year 200,000. Joining the intrepid travelers is Adam (Dalek's Bruno Langley).
From the beginning you could tell that this episode would be different from last week's dark,
introspective episode. The Doctor, Rose and Adam land on Satellite 5, which broadcasts news of the entire Earth
Empire (Yes! We're still great even in the future!). News gathering is performed by one person, whose brain is one big
storage unit, while subordinates put the reports together using small mind chips. An 'Editor-in-Chief' oversees
everyone on the satellite and in the entire empire through a control room manned by zombies. The whole thing reminded me
a bit of Max Headroom.
Anyone who performs well gets promoted to floor 500. However, after they get
promoted they are never seen again. And there, dear readers, lies the mystery that The Doctor must solve. Because, not
only does he need to find out where these people go, but why their technology is so backwards (for the year 2000,000
that is.)

My Gym
Partner's A Monkey, the newest kid cartoon for Cartoon Network, doesn't officially premiere until Friday, February
24, but today Cartoon Network offered a sneak peak at the show. I'm a bit too old to really get into it, despite
enjoying a lot of similar animated programs. Still, the show isn't without its charm and I think younger kids will
get a kick out of it.
The show focuses on Adam Lyon, a kid who, because of his last name, is accidentally placed in a school for animals,
Charles Darwin Middle School. Each animal's personality is based loosely on their real-life counterparts. For example,
in the episode "Inoculation Day" the nurse, who's a gazelle, has trouble giving shots because her brain is
only the size of a soy nut. Adam's best friend, a spider monkey named Jake, has a fascination with his own butt that's
only odd if you're not a monkey. There's plenty of slapstick and poo humor, so it's pretty much guaranteed kids will
love it. I even found myself cracking up a few times. The show was created by husband and wife team Jeff Cahill and
Julie McNally Cahill, who previously worked on Baby Looney Tunes.

Ever wanted to know what myths the MythBusters always wanted to do? How about which myths had results that surprised
the heck out of them? A while back, Slashdot had an open invitation for readers to submit questions for the Mythical
duo, and they
recently supplied the answers.
I, for one, can't wait to see the episode where they test the vertical bullet myth they talk about!
