Before we jump right into things, let's take a moment to think about just how amazing these past two weeks of Daily Show have been. The program has always been pretty solid, but both the Democratic National Convention and the Republican National Convention have provided beautiful fodder for both Jon and the correspondents, who seem to have finally hit their stride. This particular group of correspondents works best when they're all teamed up, and it really showed during convention coverage. From Jason Jones and Samantha Bee sucking face in front of hapless interviewees to Rob Riggle and Wyatt Cenac grillin' up some arugula in an elitist parking lot. TDS is taking another break next week and, boy, do they deserve it.Posts with tag AasifMandvi

Some correspondents reported on the real reason why Republicans have gathered in Minnesota, and as it turns out, it's just to check out Larry Craig's old Minnesota airport stall. I think most audience members missed John Oliver's sneaky tweaking of the word "clockwork", unfortunately. However, the audience didn't miss any of Jason Jones' stall activities, which were especially disturbing, whereas Aasif Mandvi's handicap stall antics were just fabulous. I wonder if those dancers were just hapless interns roped into a scene. Also, the dancing reminded me of a beautiful moment from one of Stephen Colbert's old Daily Show reports, forever immortalized in this hypnotizing GIF. In other news, The Daily Show must be the only reason why Jimmy Dean Chocolate Chip Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick is still in existence.Continue reading The Daily Show: September 3, 2008 - VIDEOS

"The Heart of Hopeness": Barack Obama delivered his acceptance speech the other night, to a stadium full of insanely excited Democrats. John Oliver filed a report live from the site of Obama's speech. Man, John has really been putting himself on the line this week, being incredibly annoying in front of so many overexcited people. I mean, chanting "Osama!" at a massive crowd of Obama lovers is almost a sure to bring about a beating, but he totally lucked out with some relatively mild verbal confrontation. Other great moments included dancing to Jeremiah Wright's "white friends" song and making his move on hot strangers. As we would see later in the episode, it seems like the Democratic National Convention brought out the friskiness in the correspondents.

"Guess Who's Coming to Denver": Seeing Jon Stewart and Aasif Mandvi make those jokes about (not) seeing Barack Obama's speech made me wonder if there are still any regular viewers who don't understand when The Daily Show (and The Colbert Report) tape and air their episodes. I remember when I started watching Conan O'Brien when I was super young, all the "It's really 11:30 at night!" jokes flew way over my head. So, just in case you don't know but are too embarrassed to ask: Both TDS and TCR tape around 6:00 or 7:00 in the evening and then air the same night. There.Continue reading The Daily Show: August 28, 2008 - VIDEOS

"Guess Who's Coming to Denver?": The Daily Show is back! They'll be in Denver for the whole Democratic National Convention, workin' their shiny new set. It's pretty much just Jon's "j" desk and a whole lot of big screens hanging in the back. The gang was in full form, and I believe this was the most I've laughed at the show in a while. Perhaps it only feels that way because the show has been gone for a week and a Monday. Thank goodness they returned, because I was starting to get the shakes.Continue reading The Daily Show: August 26, 2008 - VIDEOS

"Dick Move of the Week": John McCain has been making more news with one of his new attack ads against Barack Obama, in which he calls Obama out for being an attention-seeking celebrity, just like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. That's not the bad part though. That honor goes to the fact that Paris' parents support McCain and have sent thousands of dollars for his campaign. Smooth move, my man. Smooth move.Continue reading The Daily Show: July 31, 2008 - VIDEOS
Has Daily Show withdrawal kicked in yet? - VIDEOS

We are nearing the end of The Daily Show's two-week hiatus, but I'm suffering from a serious case of the political commentary shakes. In a desperate attempt to curb my withdrawal symptoms, I spent most of July 4th cracking jokes about the FISA Bill, but nobody wanted to hear it and drowned me out with lots of Roman Candles and exploding beer cans. Hopefully, other fans have been coping better than I have, but just in case you aren't, here are a few things to hold you over a few more days.

Have you heard?! Full episodes of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are now available for streaming! These will be available on Hulu, as well as players on the show's official sites (The Daily Show and The Colbert Report). Only the most recent few weeks will be available in full episode format, but the broken up clips that I have been embedding in these posts will be around forever, so that's what I'm going to keep putting in here. This is a fantastic, convenient feature... for the Americans that can access it. Sorry, Canada. Close, but no cigar.Continue reading The Daily Show: June 9, 2008 - VIDEOS

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia recently appeared on CSPAN's Q&A and grumpily talked about The Daily Show's childish material. I always remember Scalia as one of the only people that cracked up on camera during Stephen Colbert's 2006 White House Correspondents Dinner performance, so I still like to pretend that he's secretly a TDS/TCR fan. Also, does anyone else here have the America book? My copy has an unusual tendency to open right on the naked Supreme Court when I just randomly pick a page. They must have done something sneaky to the binding.Continue reading The Daily Show: May 13, 2008 - VIDEOS

Following the Daily Show's report on the FAA, American Airlines canceled one thousand flights for inspection. Coincidence? Yeah, actually, probably."Iraq Me Dave Petraeus Part 2": Ahh, the intro this segment will never get old. Thank goodness Commanding General Dave Petraeus is still talking crazy, because I love me some faux-Falco. Anyway, Petraeus pulled out his best graphs to testify in front of Congress. He even managed to squeeze in an "ethno-sectarian competition". No "civil war"? That is one sweet thesaurus, Petraeus.

"Indecision 2008": Remember how Michigan and Florida had their primaries early and nobody cared? Yeah, well now people totally do care and they want do-overs. Didn't see the neck-and-neck race coming, did ya? I know some other things were discussed, but I can't quite remember. My brain actually fizzled out once they showed the Michigan mitten/Florida wang wank. What is The Daily Show putting their graphics department through? First the 9/11 sex bed and now... this. I hope they don't show it again, because I've heard it might lead to blindness or a hairy Lansing.Continue reading The Daily Show: March 6, 2008 - VIDEO

"Indecision 2008": Finally, some Tuesday coverage. Unsurprisingly, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama fought all the way through, with Clinton pulling ahead just enough to claim major victories. John McCain has already pretty much locked up the Republican nomination and Mike Huckabee, um, was Mike Huckabee. I'm usually not very fond of the gag jokes, but the giant hands worked well, if only for that "Oh, Mickey!" bit.Continue reading The Daily Show: March 5, 2008 - VIDEOS

"Indecision 2008": Did you know Super Tuesday was on Tuesday? The media did a poor job of making us think that the five to six hours leading up the results were "fascinating". They didn't help their point by hurling numbers every which way. As if to add to the confusion, the news teams goofed around with unnecessary flashy graphics, like that "statistical lazy susan", and FOX News' newest player, Karl Rove. Yes, Rove has joined FOX News. Don't think about it too much or your heart will seize up.Continue reading A Daily Show: February 6, 2008 - VIDEO
Daily Show correspondents love candidates and costumes
The Daily Show correspondents and analysts and very busy and important, so viewers will probably never get a chance to see the everyone show off their comedic chops at the same time. So, pore over this his GQ blog post, because it's probably going to be the closest thing we'll get to a display of their group genius. In the article, the correspondents share their thoughts on various presidential candidates and some of their strangely hot wives. They also seem to have spent quite a bit of time thinking about the magic weight loss of both Mike Huckabee and Subway's Jared (Samantha Bee: "They've both got one pair of giant pants somewhere in their closet that they pull out every so often: Now three of me can fit in these pants!"). I don't think this is an excerpt from a larger, soon to be in-print piece, but I'm still holding out a little hope.

"The Strife Aquatic": I'm so glad Jon called out the fact that the "liberal dictionary" was just a children's Bible. I kept thinking, "The liberal dictionary has an awful lot of pictures, Jon. Quit perpetuating liberal stereotypes! We read good." Anyway, torture is no good. Usually. Kind of depends one your definition for "torture", apparently. Also, I just realized that I may have been using "waterboarding" instead of "bodyboarding" for most of my childhood. Seeing as how I've lived in beachy Florida for most of my life, "bodyboarding" has come up quite a bit. Oops.
