You've got to love the ballsiness of Stephen Colbert and the staff of The Colbert Report. They are constantly finding different ways to connect with their audience. Remember the Wikipedia incident?Anyway, they're at it again with the Repentance Hotline, more funnily known by its phone number, 1-888-OOPS-JEW (1-888-667-7539). You may think this line is just a gag, but according to this Newsvine article, it's not. When you call the number, you are supposed to receive the following message: "Shalom, and welcome to Stephen Colbert's atonement hotline. At the tone, please be a mench, and unburden your soul by stating how you've wronged me - Stephen Colbert. Your call will not be returned but selected apologies will be played on the air. You should be so lucky."
Problem is, when I tried calling it from both my cell phone and land line this morning, all I got was a busy signal. Maybe the line got overwhelmed when this Newsvine article came out. I was able to get to it about a half-hour ago, though, but didn't leave a message. If you left a message, let me know what it was in the comments.
