Mad Men: Flight 1 {TV Squad}
Aug 5th 2008 12:07AM Shel, thanks for that. And how terribly awful. But thanks...
I thought that the scene was brilliant. Here you have an all-appearances, tight-ass, dysfunctional waspy to the utmost family, and I thought it was portrayed perfectly. I thought that the pink elephant moment was stunning. Just the kind of controlled, random mini-meltdown that hints at a woman whose world has just crashed down, but who feels strongly that decorum must be maintained.
I don't know about the Laura thing, but I do know that Weiner likes changing her name up. Sometimes Don calls her Birdie. I think it has something to do with the idea that she doesn't have much of an identity; she'll take whatever you throw her way.

Jul 21st 2008 10:51PM I love the writing... so patient and unexpected. You never know how the characters will react. Sometimes it's their lack of reaction that is the most surprising, but that is how real people are.
Plus umm... everyone's really pretty.
Mad Men: Season One - DVD review {TV Squad}
Jun 29th 2008 2:02AM Pretty much I'm dying. I won't want to do anything once I get it but watch the extras and listen to the commentaries, laughing along and pretending I'm in the room whooping it up with Hamm and Slattery.
Grey's Anatomy: Physical Attraction... Chemical Reaction {TV Squad}
Nov 10th 2007 1:20PM I forgot the most important part!
As soon as Meredith said the thing about 'That's five things' to the dad, I knew that it would come back later and be about Lexie.
Didn't you?
You know what that is right... when you're two steps ahead of the writer? BAD WRITING.
Grey's Anatomy: Physical Attraction... Chemical Reaction {TV Squad}
Nov 9th 2007 11:47AM Okay, first of all, Jonathan, your whining is well appreciated by me. This show has turned from an intricate collection of finely nuanced characters and situations to a slapstick clusterfuck. Who Meredith was and all her background were fascinating, and that is why the show was named for her. (Plus it's a clever name.) Now this mess is anyone's guess.
-I also couldn't figure out the bath joke. Talk about unrealistic, talk about a joke trying to work too hard. I'm sure there is a play on words there, (did Izzie simply say she liked rubber?) but uh... maybe they'd have figured it out before the moment that we, the viewers, saw? Ridiculous.
-I liked when Bailey cried, but the hug was unrealistic and again, a bit slapstick.
-Interesting how Lexie defended herself against Meredith, basically saying she isn't a slut. Not surprising that Meredith didn't respond to this, because she doesn't really respond to anything Lexie says, but am I the only one who remembers that Meredith is someone who, when not in a relationship, has lots of drunken, random sex?
-I too wonder if Callie is FIRED fired or just stepped down. But my goodness, how many hits is this woman supposed to take in one year before she breaks?
-Christina will continue to pursue Cardio... that became clear when Bailey was making her 'but if it were me' speech to the chief... 'if it were me I would have suggested to Christina that she find another specialty so she could see just how badly she wants to stay in Cardio'.
-Those magnets were huge. Marble sized. I don't know the medicine, but they were pretty intense.
I'm hardly watching anymore, because so much of it has become unbearable. These writers used to be on their game, now it seems they're just playing.
Mad Men renewed for a second season {TV Squad}
Sep 24th 2007 3:19PM It's great news. And, like penguin, I have told people about it, and no one wants to start without a proper marathon (apparently they, and I, missed one a few weeks back).
Mad Men: The Hobo Code {TV Squad}
Sep 9th 2007 2:46PM Sorry, I keep having more to say. First of all, the more I watch this show, the more immersed I become. Each episode is like being in a dream. And as I've said, each line has so much thematic importance. So one that stood out to me this week:
"You realize at a certain point in your private life that seduction is over and force is actually being requested."
Poor Sal.
And poor Peggy. She is otherwise so cool... kind of an odd duck, and obviously bright, and so right right right about who she is and what she will and won't be... and so WRONG WRONG WRONG about Pete! For some reason, she elicits moments of vulnerability and humanity in him, and that is all she sees and responds to. The rest she is excusing.
I also like how there were a couple of mentions from the men how Joan is kind of a tyrant. They all see through her; playing both sides of things.

Sep 9th 2007 8:32AM Dick/Don didn't refer to HIMSELF as a 'whore's child'; it was obvious that it is what he is CALLED. "Haven't you heard? I'm a whores' child" is what he said to the hobo. Like he's heard this for so long he assumes it is common knowledge. This family life, as it continues to be revealed, will be more and more tragic.
(The father was so well cast, in terms of looking like Don.)
Also, the irony of Don swearing to his son that he will never lie to him. Don's lies are so ingrained in him that he doesn't even think of them as lies. He has a past that is secret from his own family. I'm sure he told his children that their grandparents were dead (kids always ask). And while yes, they are, he only just found that out from Adam.

Sep 7th 2007 11:15AM PS... I believe Lois's line while she was flirting with Sal was something to the affect of... It's good to get out of that closet and walk around once in awhile (referring to the tiny switchboard room).
tee hee!

Sep 7th 2007 11:08AM I have SO MUCH to say and no time to say it.
But I think he gave his chalk to Dick.
Which doesn't explain how fast he carved.
And I thought the other sexually hot scene (I'm with you on Sal and Elliot) was Peggy dancing for Pete, before he basically spit on her. She was so sexually whole.
