Apr 30th 2008 4:50PM 24's long hiatus will lose some viewers, but if the season's good enough, they'll come back. Heck, Sopranos would go a year or two between seasons but the show as so good that the fanbase stayed loyal.
I think 24 spends too much time trying to one-up itself lately. I mean, the first season was about the attempted assassination of one man. Season 2 was basically about stopping one nuke. Season 6, didn't they blow up one or two of those within the first 4 episodes? I still love the show, it's just that all the action actually makes it a little less thrilling than it used to be.
