The show will test dancers' skills by changing the song mid-performance to measure the breadth of their repertoire and the level of their creativity. This sounds a little too much like Freezedance but for prize money. The grand prise is $50,000 to be exact.

Joey Lawrence will host and there will be three judges: Lucinda Dickey (Solid Gold, Breakin'), Tyce Diorio (choreographer on So You Think You Can Dance), and Loni Love (comedienne voted one of Comedy Central's Top 20 Comics to Watch in 2008).
Continue reading Joey Lawrence is hosting a new dance show for TLC

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Talk Talk: Ryan Seacrest, Teri Hatcher, Alan Alda

Filed under: Late Night, TV Royalty, Programming, Celebrities, Talk Show, Reality-Free

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that if ratings don't improve for the last place network, buzz is that The CW could actually vanish next year. Ratings in the 18-49 demographic are down 28%, and the ratings for the May sweeps are down 22%. I guess Gossip Girl just isn't enough to prop up an entire network, and they just lost Friday Night Smackdown, not to mention that Smallville, Supernatural, and Reaper are probably going into their last seasons.

Continue reading Watch The CW or it could be gone next year

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

What's On Tonight: Ghost Whisperer, Doctor Who, The Soup

Filed under: Programming, What To Watch Tonight, Reality-Free

It's not easy to pick which shows look the best. Sure, we can base our judgments on what "type" of show we usually like anyway or a producer that's involved or someone who is in the lead. But we're still just basing it on a description (or a snippet from each show). It really comes down to the writing and the execution in general.

Having said all that, here are the shows that look great to me, based on the upfront description, the cast and crew involved, and how my tastes run in general.

The series is a dark comedy about rival gangs of suburban housewives. Most recently, Preston had a recurring role on Medium.

Preston will be playing Camilla, the leader of one of the gangs. Other cast members include Kerri Kenney and Rachael Harris. The show is based on a British series that was picked up by the Oxygen network.

The premise of the series sounds good. It's a bit like Desperate Housewives meet Boys In The Hood. I envision a scene in which the housewives rumble like the rival gangs in The Warriors. While the premise works, its success depends on the execution of the idea.

There is one thing that can be confidently said about this new series. The show couldn't possibly be worse that one of she and her husband's previous efforts, Battlefield Earth.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Talk Talk: Josh Holloway, Denis Leary, Hulk Hogan

Filed under: Late Night, TV Royalty, Programming, Celebrities, Talk Show, Reality-Free

Here's who's on the late night shows tonight.

The network aims to eventually reach 80% original content, with plans for three original nights a week by 2010. How are they going to reach those goals? With cops. Lots and lots of cops.

We've already heard about the new Donnie Wahlberg DEA series, Morse Code. Three other cop shows are in development at the network, including Delta Blues, from executive producer George Clooney, which follows the story of a Memphis cop who does a little Elvis impersonating on the side. 24 co-creator Joel Surnow is also joining the TNT family with an as yet untitled series built around an ATF agent. Finishing off the law enforcement party is Angel City. Written by L.A. cop Will Beall and Barry Schindel, Angel City is being compared to Adam-12. The network cut the comedy's final season short, but the show is getting a second chance on ABC. Lawrence slammed his former network bosses for denying him the opportunity to conclude the show properly, and discussed Scrubs' future on ABC. Here's a brief recap of the interview:

Once the strike was over, Lawrence told NBC that he could finish up the season in three episodes instead of the planned seven. NBC had no interest in wrapping up the season in a way that would satisfy fans.

First, I learned all about what the cast of Saved by the Bell has been up to for the last 20 years. Now, the news that The Electric Company is coming back to TV has pushed my nostalgia button once again.

As a kid, I was such a fan of The Electric Company that when my husband and three year old started singing the Spider-Man theme song, I thought they were wrong. I didn't understand where the lyrics, "Where are you coming from, Spider-Man? Nobody knows who you are," were in their version of the theme. I was set straight! I guess I can accept that Spider-Man theme situation, but to me, Morgan Freeman will always be Easy Reader.
Continue reading Electric Company is coming back to PBS Kids

Read | Permalink | Email this | | Comments

The Upfronts: CBS

Filed under: Industry, Programming, The Amazing Race, CSI, Survivor, Numb3rs, How I Met Your Mother, Cancellations, Pickups and Renewals, Shark, Upfronts, Cane, Moonlight
CBS announced its plans for the 2008-2009 season today. Well, that reunion show wasn't the end. Leave to the good folks at Bravo -- the same people that show episodes of Project Runway, Top Chef, Workout, etc. over and over again so you are bound to see them two or three times each -- to find enough excess footage for yet another episode of the Big Apple socialites.

Calling the show a "watercooler sensation," Bravo has pieced together another hour of The Real Housewives of New York City and it will air Tuesday, May 27 at 9 o'clock (ET/PT). Don't worry, if you miss it then, you'll be able to find it on one of the upteen reruns.

Gallery: Real Housewives of NYC
<a href="http://"www.tvsquad.com"/photos/real-housewives-of-nyc/803944/"><a href="http://"www.tvsquad.com"/photos/real-housewives-of-nyc/803946/"><a href="http://"www.tvsquad.com"/photos/real-housewives-of-nyc/803948/"><a href="http://"www.tvsquad.com"/photos/real-housewives-of-nyc/803951/"><a href="http://"www.tvsquad.com"/photos/real-housewives-of-nyc/803953/">

Continue reading Bravo scrounges up a bonus Real Housewives of NYC episode

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Moonlight isn't done yet...

Moonlight is not going to just go away quietly and join that long list of one-and-done shows. People keep saying it's over, but apparently not everyone is listening. The latest rumor, from Nikki Finke's blog, has the show landing at the CW. And how would that work, considering that the CW has already made their schedule? I'm glad you asked.

You may recall a post from a few days ago about the network throwing in the towel on Sunday nights. That has now been confirmed with their upfront announcements. Sundays have now been outsourced. Moonlight comes back into the picture as a possibility to fill one of those two hours for Media Rights Capital, the new programmers for Sunday nights. If they could get even 60 to 70 percent of the show's viewers to make the move with them, it could be the most watched show on the network. Something that sounds very plausible given the loyal following the show has developed. It's still firmly in long-shot territory, but has the makings of quite a story.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

The Real World will spend next season in Brooklyn

Filed under: Other Reality Shows, Programming, Pickups and Renewals
MTV, high of off the success of its twentieth season The Real World: Hollywood, has greenlighted yet another season of the hit show to be filmed back in New York. The Real World: Brooklyn will begin shooting this summer and air in early 2009. The network will continue the one-hour format they began with The Real World: Hollywood; they've ordered twelve episodes from Bunim-Murray productions.

MTV is already touting Brooklyn as the return to the "original" Real World (not the version of the show where MTV casts hot-but-less-evolved people). Also, they are playing up the return to New York. But hasn't this been done before? I believe it was season ten and it was actually called The Real World: Back to New York. "The Brooklyn season, like the Hollywood season, will focus on what people loved about The Real World when it launched in 1992 genuine people, meaningful conflict and powerful stories. We're thrilled that MTV is allowing The Real World to turn 21.," says Jon Murray, The Real World Co-Creator and Chairman & President of Bunim-Murray Productions.

What do you think?
