It seems that every other show that gets canceled these days has a "could it come back on another network?" addendum, a glimmer of hope that somehow, some way, a show that had a small but loyal following will actually survive. Unfortunately, 9.9 times out of 10 it doesn't happen.

But it could happen to Jericho. According to Brian Stelter at The New York Times, CBS/Paramount execs have been having secret talks with Comcast (yes, Comcast) about doing something with the show for a third season. Now, this might seem like an odd, desperate play for another season if it wasn't for the fact that NBC has already done something very similar to this with DirecTV, twice. First they had a deal with the satellite provider to air Passions, but that was a big bust (sorry, Passions fans), but they have a new deal to air another season of Friday Night Lights. The new season will start airing on DirecTV in October, and then repeats will air on NBC in early 2009.

Continue reading Could Jericho come back?

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Jericho: Patriots and Tyrants (series finale)

(S02E07) "Yeah, I know." - A Texan diplomat after being shown the bomb.

I can't believe the Rangers were still in hiding. I understand that they all have targets on their backs but it should be clear to anyone that their only choice is to fight back.
The network told producers yesterday that they are not giving another season to the nuclear attack drama. The show had filmed two endings for the seven episode second season: one a cliffhanger in case the show was renewed for another season, and the other an ending that would serve as an ending to the show and satisfy fans. It's the latter that will air on March 25. While the episode does indeed leave room for a continuation, I think we can say it's really gone for good this time.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Lifetime nixes ABC's October Road and Men in Trees

Filed under: Other Drama Shows, Industry, Programming, Jericho, Pickups and Renewals
This is disheartening. ABC has been looking to Lifetime as a new home for Men in Trees and October Road. Both dramatic series have not as yet been picked up for next year, and now this report makes it clear they are both skating on thin ice. The powers that be at Lifetime were given copies of both shows to review and chose not to pick up either of them. They basically threw the ball back to ABC, forcing the network to decide the fate of these two shows.

Continue reading Lifetime nixes ABC's October Road and Men in Trees

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Jericho: Sedition

(S02E06) "When do we leave?" - Jake Green

Is it just me or was it kind of funny that each of the wanted men had their addresses under their name? Are they really that hard to find? I couldn't help imagining the soldiers busting down the wrong door. "Hey guys, this is 92 Washington LANE. Jake lives at 92 Washington DRIVE." Although I am a fan of random trivia and now we know the address of many of the characters. By the way, while Jericho, may be a real city, 66812 is not an actual zip code.

We also found out that Goetz's first name is actually John. The article, citing lots of anonymous sources, lists shows that are "on the bubble" for next season -- meaning renewal is not certain--and predicts their likelihood of renewal.

Interestingly (and tragically), The CW's Reaper appears to be on the chopping block. Tonight's ratings for Reaper could tip the balance, as a new episode goes up against a new episode of Lost. While many critics think Reaper has lost its way since the pilot, I think it's been pretty much on track. We even got a new story line during the last episode where Sam meets a new love interest, aka the devil's daughter. The dialogue is clever, the lead actor is lovable, and his sidekicks are, well, a kick. Although, if I didn't have a way to record both shows, I would probably choose Lost over Reaper tonight.

A list of "on the bubble" shows and their possible future is after the jump:
Continue reading What shows are on the bubble for next season?

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Jericho: Termination for Cause

(S02E05) "I think we have a problem." - Goetz, master of understatement

Well, I guess if anyone had doubts about the evilness of Goetz, those doubts should be erased as of this episode. I actually got chills thinking about Mimi recovering and telling the truth about what happened at the farm.

Goetz already lost four men and taking a hospital full of deputies is considerably more difficult than taking out one little girl with a shotgun. There must be a way that the residents of Jericho can take a stand against the occupation in their town. Are we to believe that Jake, Eric, Dale and a few others are the only people who have a problem with the new government? Considering how well they were doing on their own, I find it hard to believe they would stand around and be bullied by Ravenwood.

As for Stanley, he talks like he won't come around until the government literally comes and takes everything he holds dear, including Mimi. With that in mind, I have to say that this review was difficult for me to write considering the way it ended.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Jericho: Jennings & Rall

(S02E03) "Thanks for your help, Sheriff." - Goetz

The prodigal weirdo returns! I know that, like me, many of you were hoping that Dale wouldn't return this season. However, it's clear that the actor and the character have grown quite a bit, so maybe he won't be so annoying this season. Quite frankly as long as his irritating girlfriend doesn't show up, I'm happy.

I don't know about you but I'm getting a little tired of seeing Dale get kicked around. he seems to be the only merchant in town and yet every time he makes a bold decision he ends up getting slapped down by someone. I don't think that he or the rest of Jericho are going to accept that Jennings & Rall get to make the rules but don't have to play by them.

Continue reading Jericho: Jennings & Rall

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Jericho cast and crew go to convention, but fans don't

Filed under: Industry, Programming, Jericho, Ratings

Jericho fans, it might be time to grab your nuts again.

Last weekend, Jericho fans got a special treat at the Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention: a stage filled with the cast and creators of the CBS drama. The only problem? Not many fans showed up at all.

The Showtracker blog at The Los Angeles Times says that this might be because the show is neither sci-fi nor comic book-ish, but I don't know if that's a good enough excuse. It has a certain mystery/action element to it, and the first season was certainly enigmatic in a sci-fi sort of way. And plus we're talking about Los Angeles here, not a small town in Ohio, so I would think a lot more people would have showed up than did. Executive Producer Jon Turteltaub joked about the 80 fans in attendance making the ratings jump, but I don't know if that was a funny estimate by him or an accurate number.

Continue reading Jericho cast and crew go to convention, but fans don't

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Jericho: Condor

Filed under: OpEd, Jericho, Episode Reviews

(S02E02) "I'm not a conspiracy nut." - Jake Green

Condor? Really? The most creative code name they could come up with is Condor? How about something meaningful like Savior or something cryptic like Shadow or even something funny like That One Guy Who We All Recognize But Can't Remember What From.

I have the first three episodes in front of me but I'm waiting until this weekend to watch them.

Producer Carol Barbee tells Sci-Fi Wire that this second season, which is seven episodes long, is actually a contained story with a definite ending. However, since they don't know yet if CBS will give the show a third season, they've actually filmed two endings. One ending shows that everything is OK in the town and the country and the other ending leaves the door open to a third season. As Barbee explains, "I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger as much as I would say you say, 'Oh, OK, now I know where we're going to go.' "

The first episode will focus on the battle between Jericho and New Bern, and after that the reconstruction of the town and the country, though I'm sure not everything is as it seems.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Jericho: The Return - VIDEO

First, let me admit that I did not watch CBS' Jericho beyond the first episode. The nut campaign aimed at CBS worked, and the second season of Jericho will start in a few months. It's only going to be seven episodes long, and then they'll look at those ratings and see if it warrants more episodes.

In the meantime, we have this season one set. You either like the show or you don't, which will help you decide whether you will want the DVD or not. And if you buy it, you're interested in the extras, and on this set they're actually pretty good.

Continue reading Jericho, Season One - DVD review

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Giveaway Monday: Jericho season one!

Filed under: TV on DVD, Contests and Giveaways, Jericho
It's time for us to give away some stuff ... again!
