Grey's Anatomy

If you love bridal shows and haven't checked out 'Say Yes to the Dress' yet, now is a perfect opportunity. The reality series returns Friday, April 30, 9PM ET on TLC, and it's all about the inner workings of Kleinfeld Bridal, a premiere bridal salon whose goal is to make every bride completely happy with her wardrobe for the big day.

In honor of the show's return, I've compiled a few TV weddings that didn't happen for various reasons. Maybe if the brides had gone to Kleinfeld Bridal, things would have turned out differently ... or not.

(S06E20) After several weeks of repeats, 'Grey's Anatomy' returns with an explosion of cast drama. The episode on a whole underwhelmed and could have been placed before the repeats. The Arizona/Callie baby issues continue, Teddy is still awkward in her situation, Owen still feels caught between two women, and Mark is still in a midlife crisis.

There were classic moments that reminded me of the heyday of 'Grey's,' where Cristina was the squealing fan to the rock star doctor, when Bailey told it like it is to Lexie, and the final moment between Derek and Meredith. It saddened me when we saw a few seconds of the lunch room, and the smallest table had Meredith, Christina and Alex as the only people remaining from the original interns. Alex really needs a plot line instead of having to sit alone and pout about life.

Or maybe the title should be 'Another Disney Star Sees the Writing on the Wall.' Lately, a number of Disney Channel mainstays like Miley Cyrus and Ashley Teasdale are seeing their lucrative teeny bop days ending and they're moving towards different roles. Makes sense, of course. It just seems every time this happens, these actors go in the totally opposite direction (I'm looking at you, Ms. Elizabeth 'Showgirls' Berkley).

Hopefully, Demi Lovato doesn't head down that road. It doesn't seem likely, since she's been acting for years (she was in the cast of 'Barney & Friends' with Selina Gomez). Plus, she already had a taste of dramatic acting with a role in FOX's 'Prison Break' back in 2006.

With that accumulated experience, her guest stint as a schizophrenic patient on an upcoming May episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' should work out. Look for ratings to skyrocket as tweens ask their parents to stay up late on a school night to watch (and ask why everyone is having sex with everyone else at Seattle Grace).

(S06E19) This episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' finally gives the viewers the backstory of Alex Karev by introducing Alex's brother Aaron. They also planted the seed that Izzie won't be coming back by lightly mentioning divorce papers in the first five minutes of the show. Since Katherine Heigl is out, I wonder what will happen to Izzie's eggs?

The episode straddled the line between over the top and well executed. There were definite heart-tugging moments matched with actual interaction between Alex and Meredith and Bailey being an excited mother. To counteract this, I'm not on board with the whole "Callie wants a baby" storyline anymore, and I'm not feeling the Mark/Teddy relationship.

(S06E18) We finally find out more about Owen's past this week on 'Grey's Anatomy.' The big story revolved around Owen and his time in the army. He's forever filled with guilt that he could have saved his friend's life if the two just held on for an extra few minutes. The biggest problem is that Owen can't put in his head the fact that his squad leader accepted that he was going to die and was at peace. Owen was afraid and still is today, causing him to have trouble sleeping at night. If he could open up to Christina or his therapist, then he might be able to be at peace with the situation.

I wish the show had a bit more of a budget for set design because I didn't believe one minute of the scene that was supposed to be the desert. The explosion was really cheesy looking, and I couldn't believe that Owen was the lone survivor.

The on-again, off-again relationship between Katherine Heigl and ABC's 'Grey's Anatomy' is permanently off-again. Michael Ausiello reports that Heigl really is leaving the show for good.

But this isn't just some statement that ABC is releasing announcing the news, Heigl is actually the cover story this week at Entertainment Weekly, where she explains who she has fought with, why she is leaving the hit show, and why she needs to apologize for certain things she has said in the past. The big headline on the cover actually says "I'm Sorry."

Uhhh...does anyone else think that's a really odd cover? This is obviously a PR move, and that's fine (that's done all the time with celebrities), but a prayer pose? Seriously? I'd like to think it's supposed to be ironic and funny but it just comes across as lame.

Heigl was supposed to return to the show on March 1 but didn't, so both sides decided to have her leave the show.

'Grey's Anatomy' star Katherine Heigl was supposed to return to the set of the ABC show on March 1 after taking some time to film a movie. But... she didn't, because she's been negotiating her contract with the network for a while and they still haven't come to an agreement. Now sources are telling Michael Ausiello that Heigl, Shonda Rhimes, and ABC will end her contract now instead of waiting until the end of the season.

Would this be a bad thing? It seems like there's a lot of drama surrounding Heigl, and I don't mean on the show. Remember when she made that odd comment about the 'Grey's Anatomy' writers? Or when she complained about long hours on the set?

If she doesn't return to the show, that means that her last episode has already aired.

(S06E17) Chandra Wilson gets the opportunity to direct her own date this week on 'Grey's Anatomy.' Previously, she directed the episode 'Give Peace A Chance.' Sadly, the episode was not really substantial in any form or fashion. It followed the mold of the patients shaping the doctors (Teddy shouldn't be a bitch, Richard needs to calm down and see the big picture, and Arizona still doesn't want kids).

While everyone was working in a buddy system this week, in all truth, the only two pairs that worked were Meredith with Derek and Meredith with Christina. Maybe this show should return to the fact that it's 'Grey's Anatomy,' not 'Torres' Anatomy.' Meredith successfully called out Owen for being wishy-washy, and the five seconds of her with Derek was the best relationship in the whole episode.

(S06E16) I don't understand why it took 'Grey's Anatomy' fifteen minutes to run the credits on the bottom of the screen. They even included Katherine Heigl's name, and she didn't show up in the episode. How does that woman still get top billing? It's great that Izzie wasn't around, she would have been one too many. Luckily, the two mousy women weren't around in this episode. Do all four Mercy Westers ever show up together anymore?

I have a feeling that this week the writers took a step backwards. There were a lot of funny moments, mostly led by Cristina, but some of the plotline wasn't the strongest. The patients of the week didn't steer the doctors in any direction like previous weeks. Instead, the three patients followed the title, and one little accident changed their lives for the better.

(S06E15) It's the dreaded flashback week on 'Grey's Anatomy,' and we follow three flashbacks: Bailey, Callie, and the Chief, each following one of their first cases at Seattle Grace. All the flashbacks were because Derek reinstated Lecture Day. The Chief is finally getting back on his feet with 45 days of sobriety and was invited to speak. While we had actors portraying young Richard and young Ellis, Bailey and Callie adjusted their hair to represent youth.

While seeing a very yellow Seattle Grace in 1982, the one thing that was amazing was that the soundtrack for the Chief's flashbacks tapped into the '80s soundtrack. Anytime we have the Go-Go's 'We Got the Beat' and Hall & Oates' 'Maneater,' I approve of the episode.

(S06E14) It's Valentine's Day on 'Grey's Anatomy' and to celebrate, we have a restaurant roof collapse. The show claims to have the biggest surgery ever, which turns out to be an arm reattachment, with the arm temporarily being attached to a leg. While it's interesting and I'm sure a rare surgery, it still doesn't compare to separating conjoined twins or being impaled to a car in my book.

While everyone struggles with the multiple surgeries, miraculously, both Arizona and Callie have time to dilly-dally. Arizona tries her hand in playing Cupid on Valentine's, pairing up Bailey with Dr. Warren. Callie gets to check up on Sloan with her free time. What happened to the Callie who used to snap arms back into place?

If you're one of the fortunate few who make it big in the television biz, shouldn't you take the opportunity to use that cushy cushion you have built for yourself and take a big risk on something exciting and new? Not if you're one of these big television producers.

Big shots like Shawn Ryan, David E. Kelley, and Shonda Rhimes all have pilots in the can that don't seem to stray much farther from the shows that made them the big shots that they are today.

For instance, Ryan, creator of the groundbreaking FX cop drama 'The Shield,' has another cop drama premiering with Fox called 'Ridealong.' Kelley, the writer/producer behind 'The Practice' and 'Boston Legal,' has created a reality drama for NBC called 'Kindred.' Even Rhimes, the woman behind ABC's 'Grey's Anatomy,' has another medical drama show for ABC called 'Off the Map.' Is ABC looking to create an all-medical soap opera cable channel in the coming year?

(S06E13) There was no reason for 'Grey's Anatomy' to have had a rerun last week. Why didn't the producers start one week later? Either way, Derek takes over Seattle Grace this week as the chief and struggled on his first day. While he managed to figure everything out by the end of the day, it's nice to see Derek's evolution handling the responsibilities.

The Chief, or I guess he's just now demoted to "Richard," struggled with his decision to retire or go to rehab for the whole episode. While Derek, Meredith, and Bailey tried to talk to him, it was all his decision to make the next step. Here's hoping that he comes back stronger than ever.

(S06E12) This episode of Grey's Anatomy reestablished Meredith as the core character of the show: she was the one who had to deal with Derek's problems with the chief, the aftermath of Alex and Lexie, Christina's driven nature, and had to console the chief. Fortunately for her, it was one of those weeks where she actually had the time to brush her hair.

I've gotten some criticism when I declined to watch the Private Practice crossover. After seeing this episode, I don't think that I needed to watch the crossover episode at all. Mark was devastated about Lexie, had sex with Addison because he was so depressed, and was upset that Lexie acted so immature. He quickly explains that in one minute. There goes that relationship.

(S06E11) I'll be the first person to admit that I loved Addison on Grey's Anatomy, but I hate Private Practice. Whenever crossovers happen, I never watch the Private Practice half and yet the storyline isn't lost by me. It's one of those ABC ploys for me to watch another show, and I'm not having it. The episode did make me miss Addison. She melded perfectly into Seattle Grace with her interactions with Callie, Bailey, Mark, and Derek as if she wasn't a guest character.

Overall, the episode continued its strong, character-driven direction this season and felt like a return to the core characters with Bailey's frankness, Cristina's determination, and Meredith's stereotypical facial expression she gives.
