(S02E06) "It isn't a game." - Blair to SerenaGame or not, the war between Blair and Serena intensified to a point that both ladies got in a huge hair-pulling fight (see picture on the right). We have seen Blair and Serena say and do really nasty things over the past year but this week, they tapped into their evilest and nastiest of lines and actions (especially Blair when bringing up the "Serena killed someone" bit) in order to end up on top. If both ladies were somewhat at the top of their game, then why was I so bored when watching "New Haven Can Wait"?

(S02E05) "I would like to experience the world of Chuck Bass." - DanOnce again this week, we were treated to a rocking episode of
Gossip Girl, which included the usual backstabbing but also Jenny lying, Dan getting arrested and Chuck revealing a deep secret.
As a Chuck fan, I found the episode a little bit awkward but satisfying at the same time. It was uncomfortable to see Chuck at the bottom of the barrel and agree to hang with Dan because he was bored to death. However, Dan the following Chuck around allowed us to get to know Chuck a little bit more.

(S02E04) "This is your year to rule." - Chuck to SerenaBye bye The Hamptons. Hello Upper East Side. Senior year doesn't only bring back
high school uniform fashion but also the high school hierarchy system. Who knew, besides Chuck and
spoilers addicts, that there would be a change of power at school and that Serena would take back duties as Queen Bee? This plot line not only adds drama to the show (oh, how will dethroned Blair cope with her new place in the food chain?) but also offers those of us who never read the
Gossip Girl books a taste of what "old" Serena was all about.

It seems like if you're an actress in Hollywood, you're either too fat or too skinny.
A couple days ago,
EW's PopWatch reported that The CW asked the younger female stars of
90210 (Shenae Grimes, Jessica Stroup and AnnaLynne McCord) to address their "weight issues."
Sure, skeletal celebrities are nothing new (and almost seems like a requirement of fame), but even one of the stars of another CW teen drama,
Gossip Girl, thinks a line has been crossed. Penn Badgley (Dan) told
Popeater.com that he doesn't like "thin L.A. girls" and hopes "they eat a double cheeseburger or something."

(S02E03) "This party just went over to the dark side." - Gossip GirlWelcome to the dark side! Actually, when
Gossip Girl is concerned, we should probably talk about the darker side. Let's face it, most of the characters are already in the dark side zone. This week's power outage, along with Catherine's evil manipulations, only made said side much darker. Let's review how much darker
GG got this week, shall we?

(S02E02) "Marcus' mommy is even sicker than you are." – Blair to ChuckWe are once again in The Hamptons and things are still not peachy for our favorite troubled teens and their parents. Blair tries to please The Lord and learn more about him, Chuck continues his search for the piece of information that will have Blair come back to him and ditch Marcus, Serena and Dan think and get busy, and much more. But, as the quote I put at the beginning of this review points at, it's Catherine who wins the crown for most memorable character of the episode. And, as someone who already watched next week's episode, I can say that you ain't seen nothing yet. She is on sick lady.

If I didn't love this news so much, I'd be worried that
30 Rock was turning into
The Love Boat or
Will and Grace. After all, it seems as though there's news of a new guest star every few days. First
Will Arnett signed on to reprise his role as the delightfully evil Devon Banks, then ex-
Friend,
Jennifer Aniston, decided to return to television in order to stalk Jack Donaghy. After that came news that
Oprah was scheduled to play herself on an upcoming episode.
That's a lot of guest stars to pack into one season, but now we have news of two more. Everybody's favorite
Gossip Girls, Blair and Serena, AKA
Leighton Meester and Blake Lively, are coming to 30 Rock. What on earth could bring these Upper East Siders to Midtown? Are they trying to overthrow Liz Lemon as queen bee of
TGS with Tracy Jordan? Are they starring in a movie with Tracy Jordan? There's more info on their storyline after the jump.

I was really bitter towards CW for canceling
Veronica Mars, so I was planning on not watching
Gossip Girl out of spite. However, as a fan of (at least the first few seasons) of
The O.C., the idea of another
Josh Schwartz show intrigued me. Okay, that, and the fact that I loved
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (shut up), and the realization that my one-woman boycott wasn't going to bring
VM back, all led me to the show.
When I tuned in, I really thought it would be
The O.C. East, but Schwartz and the rest of the writers did a good job of making it its own show, I'm sure in no small part due to the fact that they had a series of books to work with. In fact, last night's
90210 premiere reminded me more of
The O.C. than
Gossip Girl ever has. So when I read that an
O.C. alum was making her way to the Upper East Side, I wasn't exactly thrilled.

(S02E01) "Sex, lies and scandal never take a vacation." - Gossip Girl
Our favorite bunch of tortured and flawed teens is back in action with a season that starts in The Hamptons. To our viewing pleasure, no matter where they go or what time of year it is, sex, lies and scandal follow the
Gossip Girl characters around. The season premiere delivered on all three counts and even more!

It's kind of nice when the networks spread out
their premieres, ensuring me a fighting chance at sampling most of the new shows. Call me crazy, and you definitely wouldn't be the first, but I have this weird obsession with trying to catch at least one episode of virtually every new major show that premieres and, if at all possible making that the pilot episode. It's allowed me to see a lot of great shows, and a lot of stinkers. But it makes this time of year a busy blast, too!
I also try to keep up with returning shows to see what they've done in their off-season. If it's one I watch, then I want to see if they've tweaked the formula in any way; and if it's one I don't, then I'm always interested to see if they've come up with something to pull me in. With tonight the unofficial start of the fall season, we see the newest networks, FOX and The CW getting an early start by returning three prominent shows. We also say goodbye, maybe forever, to one of the most enjoyable new shows of the summer while TNT takes the chance to bow a new series.

Can't. Stop. Talking. About.
Gossip.
Girl. It's true,
it's an impossibility.
Gossip Girl, the random, trashy, highly buzzed about but low-rated CW drama, is returning for its second season on September 1st. Recently,
The CW has released some teasers to catch us up on what everybody's favorite perfectly-coiffed Upper East Siders are up to. Basically, they're still having sex and backstabbing one another, but this time it's in The Hamptons!
I've got to admit that I'm ashamed of myself for being this excited about
Gossip Girl's return. It's cheesy and silly, and is definitely not a replacement for The CW's oft-mourned
Veronica Mars. Regardless, seeing the gang (minus the Humphreys) in these promos was nice--in a very similar way to when someone you went to high school with but weren't friends with finds you on Facebook. It's interesting to see what they've been up to, but you're still pretty sure you're not going to be besties.
The (spoilery) videos are after the jump.

Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl. That's pretty much been the talk this summer. It's on the CW and doesn't get great ratings, but everyone is talking about the cast romances and the clothing and the
ad controversy. It's the "buzz-worthy" show of the moment, and a lot of people are getting sick of it. And that list of people seems to include America Ferrera.
I'm not a body language expert (my degree is actually in psychotherapy) but I just
know that the clip after the jump shows the
Ugly Betty star about 33 seconds away from walking off the set as Blake Lively goes on and on about
Gossip Girl. Which would be fine if Lively and Ferrera weren't there to promote something else,
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. E's
The Soup caught Ferrera's reaction and showed it to the world.

It's coming. The table is set, the players are on the field, the sails are raised, and the pretty maids are all in a row. Of course, I speak of the 2008-09 television schedule. In just a few short weeks viewers will be able to dine on a number of favorite and new dishes that are being served by the networks as well as the increasing number of cable channels who are delving into original programming.
While other fall seasons have come and gone with nary a whimper, this season may be different. Due to the prolonged Writers Strike many shows ended their seasons quite early. Programs like Life, Private Practice, Pushing Daisies, and Heroes haven't aired original episodes since the end of 2007. Heck, there hasn't been a new episode of The Shield since June of last year! So, the beginning of the 2008-09 season will be a second chance for some of these shows, particularly the ones that premiered last season, to show their worth to fans and the networks.
