Jon Stewart"Dance Dance Resolution": Man. All that talk about disappointing Davey Crockett really broke my heart. And all that talk about Wicked made my inner theatre geek laugh... and my inner normal civilian cry a little bit for the state of our Congress. Did a cell phone really go off at the end of that guy's speech? If so... Wow.

Colbert gets his own Ben and Jerry's flavor

americone dreamIt turns out the rumors were true after all: Stephen Colbert, that champion of liberty and master of satirical rhetoric has his own Ben and Jerry's flavor. Americone Dream consists of waffle cone pieces covered in fudge mixed in with caramel and vanilla ice cream. Damn, that sounds mighty tasty, though in my opinion Ben and Jerry's has yet to come up with a flavor that rivals Phish Food. When I eat Phish Food it's like being punched in the face with a boxing glove of flavor.

Speaking of Phish Food, Colbert rightly pointed out the liberal bias of Ben and Jerry's past flavors, and the liberal bias of dessert in general. I say it's about damn time our man Stephen was represented in the freezer aisle. Between this and sales of his potent man seed (Formula 401), he should be raking in the dough. Actually, Colbert is donating his proceeds to charity. He's a class act all the way.

Jon Stewart"Il or No Il": Hurrah! The US has successfully negotiated a nuclear agreement.

But enough about global current affairs, the 14th was Valentine's Day! Resident Expert (or "Sexual-Pert") John Hodgman stopped by to explain, "Why is love?" and the meaning behind "To fuck like a prairie vole". I swear, I'm going to work that phrase into a conversation some way or another in the next week. Mark my words.

The Naked Trucker and T-Bones will unite us all - VIDEO

naked trucker and t-bonesIn television, there seems to be a theory that red state humor and humor with a more liberal angle can never exist together. From Hee Haw to Blue Collar TV, the guiding ethos is that cowboy hat-wearin' pig farmers and snarky ironic hipsters are just too different for anyone to create a show both these camps can enjoy.

I say that's nonsense, and The Naked Trucker and T-Bones is my Exhibit A. I've been watching the show since it premiered in January, and with every episode I'm more and more convinced that Dave 'Gruber' Allen and David Koechner (the Naked Trucker and T-Bones, respectively) have found just the right mix of oddball humor and country-fried charm.

Relative Strangers makes network debut on Comedy Central

ron livingstonI loves myself some Ron Livingston. It's mostly due to his laid back lead role in Office Space, but I'm always impressed by that "everyman" thing he does so well. Alas, I've never seen Relative Strangers, the 2006 comedy starring Livingston, but I and everyone else will have a chance to catch it on Comedy Central on March 17 at 10:00 p.m.

Livingston plays a psychiatrist named Richard Clayton who sets out to find his birth parents, only to find out they're trailer trash with the surname "Manure" (played by Danny DeVito and Kathy Bates). I'm liking this movie already based on the talent alone, and as The Waterboy demonstrated, Bates knows how to play a hick.

UPDATE: An early draft of this post mistakenly identified the movie as a new Comedy Central series. That was my mistake, a result of misreading the press release. Thanks to those who pointed that out. I promise to report with greater care in the future.

Jon Stewart"Death of a Person": The only thing that managed to knock the "astronaut in diapers" story off the headlines was the (un)expected death of Anna Nicole Smith.

Senior Entertainment Correspondent Rob Riggle explained why the media has been in a tizzy over Anna Nicole Smith's death. John Oliver, in the grave adjacent to Anna Nicole Smith's, popped in again, for, like, the millionth time. And what was up with the media calling Anna Nicole Smith our Lady Di? No. Just... no. Then, Senior Media Analyst Jason Jones came by the studio to elaborate. He was okay. I've been slowly (very slowly) warming up to Jones since his Laguna Beach segment.

Comedy Central wants more Sarah Silverman

Sarah SilvermanThe Sarah Silverman Program debuted with great numbers for Comedy Central last week. They are understandably pleased about that, but this announcement came as a bit of a surprise to me. The network has already picked up a second season, after just two airings of the show. That seems to be a bit of a gamble.

I watched the first two episodes, and they weren't bad. There were some genuinely funny moments in both of them. My favorite parts were the scenes with Zach Galifianakis, but I always like him.

In watching it though, I got the feeling that this could grow old rather quickly. Sure, it could be a break out hit. It's hard to predict what is going to catch on. And because it's so hard, giving it a little time to prove itself might have been a wise move. Nobody wants to be stuck with the last season of Drew Carey, long after fans have quit watching.

Jon Stewart"Controversy, thy name is Snickers..." Yup, some Superbowl ad talk. I laughed a little too hard when the sad robot blew his brains out. Does that mean I'm going to Hell? Robot Hell?

"Money for Nothing": I was absolutely mesmerized by Henry Waxman's face. Gosh, I can't even remember what this segment was about (something about losing $12 billion or something? Small change). Most of my time was spent trying to figure out who Waxman looks like. I eventually came to the conclusion that I was thinking of Batboy.
