Whether it's dating a contestant or giving bad interviews or just being wacky. These events inevitably lead to an allegation that Paula has a drinking problem or is on drugs or something equally scandalous.

Some people seem to get very angry when these allegations start flying. These folks are fans of Paula and AI and therefore feel that they must defend her in any way they can. They make up excuses for her behavior which range from sleep deprivation to technical problems. Unfortunately none of them ever admit the truth:

Continue reading Stump the King - Paula Abdul

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Stump the King - Astro Boy - VIDEO

Filed under: Animation, Ask TV Squad, Reality-Free

Here is a pleasant letter I got this week from a fan named Everett Mason...

Everett writes, "Hi Paul, I'm trying to remember a 70's anime. I know it was about a boy from outer space that had powers. It was in black and white. It might have been called space boy or something like that."

Well, clearly the answer is Astro Boy. Even if you have never seen the show, I'm sure most of you are at least familiar with it. The character has been one of the more successful crossovers from Japanese animation to America.

Continue reading Stump the King - Astro Boy - VIDEO

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Ask TV Squad: Is The Mole coming back to TV?

Filed under: Other Reality Shows, Programming, Watercooler Talk, Ask TV Squad, Game Show

When we opened TV Squad's mail bag today, we found this question from Robyn S.: "Am I losing it or am I seeing subliminal messages on ABC like "The Mole is watching you" and "The Mole is coming"? Will the show still tape in New York? Will he have a sidekick? Who will be his band leader? Will he constantly laugh at himself like he used to on Saturday Night Live?

I have always found him to be a very funny guy but when Fallon sat in for Dave Letterman, I have to admit, I was not impressed. He seemed to constantly be fighting with the need to be personable with his guests while still trying to be his ultra-hip self.

Continue reading Stump the King: Jimmy Fallon

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Stump the King: The Greatest American Hero

Filed under: Other Sci-Fi/Supernatural Shows, Ask TV Squad, Reality-Free

I got a crazy question this week and I must admit I am completely stumped.

Jean Noel writes, "Me and my brother are trying to remember a movie made for TV or a show. I think it aired in the 80's. He can remember a man with some sort of powers. When in danger, parts of his body transformed in some sort of robot. One time he was running from the bad guys and his hand shot some sort of laser and another he was running and a wall fell on top of him half his body turned into this robot like thing at the end of the movie he became that robot like superhero. Can anyone help me with the name of this show or movie?"

Continue reading Stump the King: The Greatest American Hero

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Stump the King - SCTV

Filed under: Other Comedy Shows, Ask TV Squad, Reality-Free

I was driving around town today with the top down and my iPod blaring and a song came on that brought back some memories and I was really bothered.

The song was "I Don't Like Mondays" by The Boomtown Rats. I'm sure many of you are familiar with the song and recognize it as a classic. More importantly, I'm sure most of you know that the song was inspired by a particularly horrific event (feel free to Google it). However, that wasn't what bothered me. The bothersome part was that the memories it brought back were those of one of my favorite shows.

Continue reading Stump the King - SCTV

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Stump the King - Seinfeld - VIDEO

Filed under: Video, Ask TV Squad

This letter brought back some memories for me...

"In the mid '90s a show aired that lasted about half a season. It was a space show where the main characters were cadets who flew fighters. One of the main characters was a test tube baby with a navel on the back of his neck. I was wondering what that show was called (if I recall... it got pulled because it cost too much to make, not because it had poor ratings)."

Continue reading Stump the King - Space: A&B

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Stump the King - Uncle Fester

Filed under: Ask TV Squad, Children

Here's an interesting letter I got from a reader named Carla Lee.

"When i was a little girl, I lived in Ohio. There was this show called the uncle al show. I was on one of the weekly shows. Do you know how i can get info on this. I would like to see it if possible. thanks "

I, personally, had never heard of The Uncle Al Show, but I did a little research and found out that it aired on the ABC affiliate, WCPO in Cincinnati.
Continue reading Stump the King - Uncle Fester

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Stump the King: thirtysomething

Filed under: Other Drama Shows, Ask TV Squad

As I'm sure you've heard by now quarterlife was a huge failure on network television. Those of you who read my unfavorable review of the show last week know that I didn't see much of a future for the show anyway and yet, I feel that the show was still treated unfairly by the people in charge, i.e. NBC.

Producers Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz designed this show to appeal to a very specific audience, men and women in their mid-twenties who spend a lot of time online. Now, that may seem like a very small demographic if you're a 40-year-old TV addict like me. but I actually know people in their mid-twenties who don't watch network TV. One of my friends, who is chronically hip insists that the only time he watches network television is online or on DVD. Aside from making me feel very old, his revelation cleared up some things for me.

Continue reading Stump the King: thirtysomething

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Stump the King - Seinfeld

Filed under: Other Comedy Shows, Ask TV Squad

Just last night, a fan named Kevin sent me this query...

The question was, "In the TV Movie, The Nashville Grab, what was the name of the restaurant chain owned by Conaway's character Buddy Walker?" The answer was Spaghetti in a Sack. I swear, it really was.

This week's question comes form a Transformers fan who really made me work.

Michael Fantauzzo asked me, " Who did Blackarachnia fall in love with?"

Their decision will be based on the storylines they can offer and wrap up in a small number of episodes as well as the production cost. Some series, like Heroes, that require more FX, flashy sets, more post-production time, may resume shooting in the coming weeks but those episodes will more than likely be for next season. But one thing most fans (I include myself in the lot) didn't consider in the equation to determine the number of new episodes will get are the actors' contracts.
Continue reading Will actors' contracts impact the number of new episodes we get this spring?

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Ask TV Squad: Where's Brigitte?

Filed under: Site Announcements, Ask TV Squad, TV Squad Daily
I know a good amount of you are wondering why Brigitte's TV Squad Daily has stopped updating. The fine comes as a reaction to an extended shot of Charlotte Ross's bare butt in an episode of NYPD Blue back in 2003.

Now, I'm sure we all have different opinions about the fine. Some of you think it's wrong to fine creative works for their mode of expression, even a TV show. Some of you think the fine is appropriate because you don't want your children accidentally seeing any nudity and some of you, like me, think that Disney and ABC should be given an award for showing us what is very possibly the most beautiful butt ever seen on film.

Continue reading Stump the King - NYPD Blue - VIDEO

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Stump the King - Wings

I need a little help this week...

"There was an episode of Wings where it was kind of an homage to Casablanca or Dragnet. This was a very funny episode but I don't know what season or episode. Two lines that may help you out. In the episode they all talk in a monotone voice. Joe (Tim Daly) says at one point "Why the hell am I talking like this". Also, someone says to Antonio, "You Scrapachi?" mispronouncing his last name. If you can help please do. Regards, Ian McCurdy"

Continue reading Stump the King - Wings

Permalink | Email this | | Comments
